But you've never been to a Quaker meeting, have you? The meetings expect you to read the Bible and discuss it, instead of being told what to think. The heiarchy is the preach/minister/preist. Quakers do not have someone telling them how to think.
Questioning everything is encouraged. Why, cause Jesus questioned the common way of thinking. So did other great progessive thinkers: Martin Luther, Gandi, Martin Luther King Jr, Republicans pre Vicotorian age, Gloria Stienim, Baraba Chislohm, John the Bapist,...all people who questioned what they were told to believe without thinking otherwise, and yet they still managed to have faith, and change the world to be a better place than before they came along.
If you want to question Evolution, fine. Go ahead question away. But when people question the lack of common sense in the bible, or the hypocrisy, don't set a double standard that only applies to you.
When you get back from a Quaker meeting let me know. And you can tell us all about the crazy cult activity. It will make an intresting read.
Although you may want a pillow, it may be dull if your used to the action-packed activity of a regular church.
Why would I need to go to a Quaker meeting to know about Quakers...I dont, thats why people invented books.
Lack of common sense in the Bible or the Hypocrisy? Show me such and I will show you valid refutations of your criticisms. I'm quite learn'ed.
Martin Luther = Anti-Semite; Gandi = beat his wife and favored pedophile (and possibly an Anti-Semite); Martin Luther King Jr = womanizer and cheated os hi wife numerous times; Republicans pre Vicotorian age = we all know Dem. and Rep. switched "roles" but even then, none were flaw proof; Gloria Stienim = i dont care what she did, she's no heroine of mine; Baraba Chislohm = I dont know who that is (and I think you spelled his/her name wrong); John the Bapist = followed Christ.

I cant say I really care, totally, either way, but this thread seemed interesting...so I chimed in.
Christianity...Jesus's work, had little to do with his ability to change "thoughts" about things...it was about changing "hearts" and bending hearts toward the Lord. He broke the chains of our spiritual bondage so that we could live freely (i.e. without the stain of sin) in Him and with Him.
The heiarchy is the preach/minister/preist. Quakers do not have someone telling them how to think.
I knew what you were referencing. I said thats inconsequential and it is.
God tells people what to do...and he has all called us to different things...one to be a preacher or a nurse...but we are all ministers in the Lord, he has called each an everyone of us (those who believe in Jesus) to evangelize and tell of his salvation.
Although you may want a pillow, it may be dull if your used to the action-packed activity of a regular church
Christians are the church; the Bible says forsake not the assembly of yourselves, there's very little biblical or archaeological evidence supporting the idea the first churches or the early physical meeting of believes in one space was anything like Quaker meetings. Also, church activity is a wonderful thing...it helps Christians transition into their new spiritual life -- though at times there are distractions in the church. Everyone worships in their own way, but we must assemble ourselves, pray together, sing together, work together, be loud and crazy for Jesus together and whatever else for Jesus.
I mean, I could always bring scripture because Jesus and his word (The Bible) is what defines my relationship with the Lord and you can bring what other people said (who aint Jesus or the Bible) to this discussion and it seems that these individuals are what defines the 'Quaker' in you. I'd rather have Jesus tellin me than ML...thats why you pray for descernment and to hear the voice of the Lord and make sure what you hearing is consistent with the word of the Lord (the Bible) if you believe it to be so. The spiritual message of the Bible is quite consistent.
