Exclusive: Ghost Rider 2 Update

I don't get it, doesn't Marvel have exclusive rights over Ghost Rider? I mean, it is their character...

^ Yeah I'm sure Sony will just hand the rights back to Marvel on a film that pulled in 230 million in theatres and lots more on DVD + TV rights. No way.

No, they won't hand them back over. Marvel will take them because it's very doubtful another will be made. In a few years, Marvel will have the Rider back in their palms.

Back when Marvel was broke as hell, they leased the film rights of their characters to various studios.

Guess that explains why so many of the movies have sucked...

I completely missed this thread. D'oh!

Nice to see MSJ admitting that the fights weren't satisfying.

I can't imagine how they could have done Scarecrow within the constraints of a PG-13 certificate. Ghost Rider may not be an R-rated character (IMO), but a lot of his adversaries sure are.

Yes, more action and horror in the sequel would be poifect.

:yay:

^And Scarcrow and Blackout are the perfect characters for making a movie darker IMO.

Agreed, but if they're gonna use Dan Ketch villains, they had best make a Dan freakin' Ketch movie!

They dont necessarilly have to use Dan Ketch in the movie just to have his villains, remember, this isnt the comics, in movies things WILL be changed.

I agree. I think MSJ did the right thing in choosing not to follow the comic's history verbatim, as it is undeniably convoluted. His GR movie story makes sense and is easy to follow, so I've no problem with him cherry-picking other characters and chucking them into the sequel, even if they are from different eras.

Me neither, as you said, GR's history is too convulted to make a coherent story out of, so changes are needed.

Either you spend the whole movie building either of these characters (SCARECROW/BLACKOUT) , or you leave them out. Because if you put both of these villains in this same movie they will just seem more like cookie-cutter supernatural villains GR has to beat up.

Im against Scarecrow being in it only because of the similarities with Batman Begin's scarecrow and the endless drama they will get from movie goers and critics alike saying that it was unoriginal character...and ofcourse the endless (pointless) comparisons to Batman Begins.

If MSJ is back, Nicolas Cage, and Fonda are back, they need to make Mephisto the main villain since he was the one who threatened him in the end of the movie.

I would love to see Blackout as a villain but they would need an intelligent writer and director to introduce the character and a smart script to show how Blackheart can be a true enemy of Ghost Rider (Who is physically much more powerful than a vampire). The let down is that Ghost Rider will look 'weak' considering Blade killed thousands of vampires in a blink of an eye.

The only logical villain would be Mephisto, Lilith (and her children) , the Darkhold God (would be F%^ing AWESOME), Kazaan, or Zarathos himself. I dont want to see Vengeance to play a role in the next film, there should be only ONE rider in the sequel. Maybe he can make an appearance in a future film.

Oh and...The movie should be R-rated and filmed in the USA, not Australia.

Refresh my memory, Midnyte. Who was the Darkhold God? Was he in the Darkhold series which had all those black covers?

There's nothing convoluted about Ghost Rider. If the DK character is used, the origins are simple; Dan touches the bike and voila, we have Ghost Rider.

It only gets convoluted once you get into the background behind the character, Ketch or otherwise.

it wouldnt rele be too hard to un-convolt the 90s GR origin. either the writers at marvel dont care much for GR or are too lazy to smooth everything out cause if they cared or werent lazy we wouldnt be getting things like road to damnation or the hammer lane series.

I'm guessing you didn't like them?

i liked them for what they were. but they rele dont have any connection to the main marvelverse GR. i mean, it took them like 9 years to finish the 90s series and it was only one issue they had to print. if it werent for the movie and all its hype they prob never would have printed that last issue or even have an new series like RTD or the current one n others.

if they had tied hammerlane and RTD into the 90s series where it actually made sense, then i wouldnt have any problem with whats going on whether i liked the series or not. to me it just feels like the ppl at marvel arent being respectful to the past writers and creators of the older series or to the fans of the older series. if they wanna do a total revamp with GR and make JB GR again, fine. but they could at least do a good job at it and tie it in,instead of just severing all ties to the past GR series.

In a two or more hour movie, i think they could fit plenty of back-story for Blackout and Scarecrow in and not have the movie feel convulted. FF2 was on 92 mins long, yet they fit plenty of info about SS in. Saying that, i would love to see Kazann or Lilith.

One thing thats cool about the Marvel Universe, is that some old references still come back to have meaning. The Darkhold God, Cthon, can be summonned by the Darkhold book that he wrote himself. When he was banished by the Demogorge, his book remained enchanted with a spell that would allow anybody anywhere in the world to read it in their own language. So the origins of this God lay back during the time of Kull the Conqueror (Yes theres a Kull & Conan reference there!).

Thulsa Doom was using the book to summon Cthon and Kull destroyed him and the book somehow escaped the sinking of Atlantis where it was kept by different monks and eventually ended up in the Vatican.

From there it went missing and a little dwarf was cited to be giving pages away to unsuspecting strangers in exchange for personal gain, at the expense of their soul.

Blade wanting to remove the world of all supernatural beings, read a page of the Darkhold that gave him the power of the Demogorge, thats when he became Switchblade and started destroying alll the supernatural beings he could find - Blaze, Hannibal King, Demogoblin, etc including absorbing Ghost Rider's essence, which was destroying him from the inside. He was eventually defeated by a joint attack, but the Darkhold pages still remain out there.

^Sounds like it would need a LOT of back story just for one character.

I think they should focus on the loss of control Johnny has on Zarathos. Like the 2nd one would be some villain like Scarecrow, Vengeance or even Deathwatch as a kind of side story while Johnny realizes something’s wrong with the spirit like little things instances of Zarathos growing in him. While he’s trying to figure out what’s going on he has to fight the side villain and at the very end when it looks like the villain is about to kill Johnny the full extent of Zarathos burst out totally destroying the villain. Johnny fights for control over Zarathos and realizes it’s not safe to be near Roxanne or something and leaves into the desert or something.

and the 3rd movie would be Johnny fighting Zarathos from within, Roxanne finding Johnny, Mephistopheles sending the sin eater on Johnny, maybe a minor villain Zarathos can beat the crap out of, and it would be like the last run of the Johnny Blaze GR comic series without Centurious coz that might just add confusion to the plot.

I wouldn't watch a movie like that...I'm sick of Marvel retconning characters, I would not want to see Dan Ketch's villains get stolen.

i wouldnt worry doom. look at what theyre doing with the hulk movie. theyre already doing a remake when the hulk only came out like what, 4 years ago? and also with batman begins. they did a remake when the last batman movie was made back in 97. so just give it some time and hopefully a director comes along whos more qualified and has enough common sense to do a good GR movie.

I agree a Hulk reboot is too soon (Hell I don't even think it's needed), but Batman Begins made sense though. I mean, Joel Schumacher really dragged the series into hell with B&R. A reboot was definitely warranted.

Something like this would be cool, but, at the end of the 2nd movie, i hope JB ends up in hell.
