Bethesda Fallout 4

Game is pretty fun, just a bit less interesting than New Vegas, imo.

You don't reward people for making laughably broken ****.

Broken clocks may be right twice a day, and the piece hits home with many of the very valid pieces of criticism concerning Fallout 4, expressed by myself and many others concerning its lack of RPG elements and dialogue choices. Personally I am suspicious about any gaming site knowing the sad state of journalism concerning the medium, but I am also not so foolish as to write off a criticism entire just because it was voiced from a source I harbour dislike too.

The piece is correct; Bethesda sacrificed much of the soul of the series in order to prop up their weak plot, new mechanics, and obsession with railroading the player down a particular path they had envisioned. I have no qualms calling New Vegas the superior game, because as much as actual gameplay is important to quality, what it is geared towards is equally important, and ultimately essentially all of Fallout 4's gameplay is geared towards combat, combat, combat, combat. Peaceful options are nonexistent, nonlinear solutions nonexistent, non-combat related missions non-existent. You HAVE to kill Kellog, you HAVE to say you have never had relations with a non-human in the BOS quests, and you HAVE to agree with each faction's plans to finish the game and never vocalise a good criticism of them or alter their path.

The dialogue system is ridiculous, and the choice to only have charisma skill checks is equally so. Gone are the days where high intelligence or high perception can form other workarounds. But even more than that are what the checks are for - in New Vegas I can use them to solve quests, end disputes or even start them, to find new paths or gain access to extra content and materials. In Fallout 4 I can use it to swindle more cash from quest givers. Why nothing more? Because otherwise I would be attempting to not follow the very strict railroad that Bethesda wants me too.

Even if you don't agree with these points it is difficult to argue they are not valid, and all of them are expressed by the article. I don't care if Kotaku staff members attend supremacist rallies or soapbox about the virtues of bestiality; the criticism the piece offers for Fallout 4 holds water.

Kinda late to the party, but I agree with this. I'm not that negative about the game, though... I mean, I've been having a lot of fun with this thing. Still, 35 hours in, I feel like I've seen most of what the game has to offer.

You know.. I don't have an issue with FO4, i love it.. that being said I can understand some complaints. I'm rather interested in seeing how they change it up for Fallout 5... or if they're willing to let Obsidian give us another side story.

Which I doubt.. But you never know I guess.

Any word on DLC release date?

I instantly fell in love with the game when I started it and was so hooked for a while but now suddenly I just snapped out of it. The story did end up being kinda weak and it seems I peaked with all the good side quests because now I just keep getting the same type of missions from the Brotherhood,Minutemen and Railroad in some kind of loop.

Missions that should have an impact on my stance with other factions like PAM from the railroad keep wanting me to destroy brotherhood planes or guards on patrol. I take companions like Strong and Valentine around where other characters make a tiny reference or something but don't react when they probably would instantly take out their guns.

Last time I played, it was only for like 10 minutes or so when I did two railroad missions because it was the exact same I did a bunch of times for them before except just new locations.

I may try a dlc expansion story pack whenever they come out but for now..I'm out!

If Bethesda is smart, they will let Obsidian make another Fallout.

I know Obsidian tweeted a few weeks ago that they would "love to make another" if Bethesda was cool with it. Nothing may ever come of it.. Who knows.. but at this point I don't know why Bethesda would really say no. Let Obsidian work on a new side story or whatever (Fallout: PA! Haha.. only because that's where I'm from) and bring in more cash while they work on Elder Scrolls 6...

It just makes sense to me..

I would prefer they let Obsidian make all future Fallout titles moving forward. Bethesda's take on the series just isn't that great. Fallout: New Vegas went from being the game that Fallout 3 should have been to being the game Fallout 4 should have been. I would prefer they keep things on the West Coast, NV was Fallout 3 proper (or as close to that as we're going to get) and they need to follow that up.

My only "issue" with New Vegas was it didn't feel post apocalyptic enough for me.

one of the main writers for obsidian said he'd write for Fall out again for it's sequel. not Vegas but this.

but I don't know if he was speaking for him self or the company.

I know obsidian has another project in the works and they are still on that MMO they created called skyforge, which is doing ok for now.

That's a lot people's issue which is a bit ridiculous. They were already starting to rebuild in Fallout 1, in Fallout 2, you had major population centers like the NCR Capital and Vault city which were fully thriving and functional communities. New Vegas is a direct continuation of that. I would even argue that New Vegas is a step backwards from Fallout 2 to solely to meld with Fallout 3's aesthetic.

It's been 300 years, it's not exactly the "post apocalypse " anymore.

My big thing is why didn't Bethesda just create their own post apocalyptic IP? With each release, folks are growing far more critical of their version of Fallout, A stigma that wouldn't exist if they had created their own original IP.

I don't mind where the location is, as long as it's interesting. I'm not sure what happened between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, but creatively The Commonwealth seems a lot less varied and interesting that The Capital.

Like loads of other folks, I'd love to see Obsidian get another crack at it. For as much as I played Fallout 4, it was pretty disappointing in some areas. Like TX85, I haven't played Fallout 4 in weeks and am pretty much just holding out for some promising DLC.

It's not a hard thing to figure out in the end. They wanted to crib off an established franchise name as opposed to risking more by creating a new IP. And now it's become so successful that they're not just going to drop despite how critical people may become.

And more important, that this is only the beginning. We have plans for more. More than $60 worth of new Fallout adventures and features throughout 2016.

Given the expanded DLC plan, the price of the season pass will increase from the current $29.99 to $49.99 USD (£24.99 to £39.99 GBP; $49.95 to $79.95 AUD) on March 1, 2016. However, if you already purchased the season pass for $29.99, nothing changes - you still get everything at no additional cost— the full $60 offering of add-on content for the original price of $29.99. In addition, if you didn’t buy the season pass yet, there is still time: anyone who buys the Season Pass for $29.99 before March 1st will get all $60 worth of content. This is our way of saying thanks to all our loyal fans who have believed in us and supported us over the years.

Want a chance to play these add-ons early? We’ll be running closed betas for each of the add-ons for consoles and PC. And you can sign up right now on Bethesda.net. In order to apply, you’ll need to create a registered Bethesda.net account. We’ll be selecting applicants in the upcoming weeks. Players accepted into the beta will receive a code to redeem the content. The beta is the full version (complete with achievements) and those participating will not have to purchase the add-on.

Beyond add-ons, we’ll continue to offer free updates to the game, including new features like the recent weapon debris for PC, and increased draw distances for consoles, as well as more optimizations to gameplay and quests. And something that we’re really excited about, a complete overhaul of Survival Mode that changes how you play the whole game: food, sleep, diseases, danger and more.

We’re also hard at work on the Creation Kit, which will allow you to create and play mods absolutely free. We’re currently testing both Survival Mode and the Creation Kit now, and more details will be forthcoming.

Thanks again for your continued support of Fallout 4. We can’t wait for you to play more

I guess I'll just go ahead and pick up the DLC pack.

The whole price increase is icky, but not increasing for those who have already purchased is a nice gesture. Though, if you want to be the cynic, you can also look at it as goading someone to buy something before they have any idea if it's good or not or they have to pay almost twice as much.

hmm well I just saw this stated on other sites.

Fallout 4 Season Pass Discount Available Before Price Increase. February 16, 2016 . 8:30pm

Fallout 4 Season Pass for PC/Steam has a discount available at only $24, before its March 1st price increase.

Note that although only details on three DLCs has been revealed (totaling in price of $39.97), Bethesda has alluded to even more content for Fallout 4 through the rest of 2016, totaling up to $60 in “value.” Gamers not interested in the game at its current price point should probably just check back in 2017 for a Fallout 4 GOTY edition.

Fallout 4 Season Pass $24 before the March 1st price hike to $50, Wii U Mario Maker bundle with a $53 bonus, and more this week in Deals.

You probably heard some of the details Bethesda released this week on the Fallout 4 Season Pass content. In terms of deals, the big item is a price increase from $29.99 to $49.99 starting March 1st. As of right now, you can still get the Fallout 4: Season Pass for $29.99, or even better, only $24 for the PC version after coupon at GMG. That’s basically half off next month’s price.

There’s a worthy Wii U bundle offer going on at Walmart this week. When you buy the Super Mario Maker Wii U bundle for $299.99 (the same price as everywhere else online), you’ll get two bonuses: a free copy of Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival ($40 value) and an amiibo of your choice ($13 value), making a total $53 bonus tacked on and a rare offer from Wally World.

If you’re a PC gamer and haven’t picked up Street Fighter V yet, there’s a 25% discount floating around at GMG. Not only is the base game down to $45, but a new discount now takes the Deluxe Edition with the Season Pass down to $67.48 – a new low for the Deluxe.
