Bethesda Fallout: New Vegas (PC, PS3, 360)

Dont know what game you played, but Knights of the Old Republic 2 was pretty good, wasnt as good as the first but the game was far from "garbage"

That, plus from what I've heard, they had to cut a lot from the game because they were forced to release it on time.

Yeah I've read the article, Lucas Arts made obsidian cut alot and basically rushed the game. However what we got was NOT a good game, KOTOR2 had more glitches than the first the graphics had zero improvements and the story is so godawful. You're actually the first to say the game is not a complete waste, im impressed.

Wait, this isn't even DLC? Impressive.

Yes it had glitches that's true. I wouldn't say the story was bad.
As far as characters go Kreia is probably better than any of the ones in the first game. Mask Of The Betrayer had an excellent story and was an excellent game. Obsidians story telling is better than any of the games Beshesda has made imo. Morrowind, Oblivion and fallout 3 (the main quests) had terrible story telling compared to Obsidians games. You could argue this is because they are sand box games rather than tighter focused games, but I don't think so personally. Although after a while of playing side quests in Fallout 3 I had completly forgetting my motivation.

I also think there mechanics are extremely flawed. I spend more time in Morrowind jumping than running and in Oblivion I spent most of the time shooting fireballs at nothing. When riding a horse, you could always visually see a slight stutter as it loading in the enemy. The thing were it zoomed into there static faced but with moving eyes is slightly off-puttiing also, like a rock speaking. It's hard to empathise with rocks.

Let me go ahead and be the second, then. KOTOR2 didn't measure up to KOTOR1, but it wasn't terrible. I liked it a lot, actually.

KOTOR2 was entirely inferior as far as plot goes, but a big part of that was thanks to LucasArts and their ridiculous deadline. The plot is actually good if you take the time to piece together all the deleted scenes and dropped plots (which can be found on wookiepedia) with what we got. Plus gameplay in KOTOR 2 > gameplay in KOTOR

I enjoyed KOTOR2 up until I couldn't advance any further without it freezing. I was close to the end too.

Wow im surprised people liked the game which is a good thing though, personaly I felt extremly let down and pissed off I wasted my cash on that garbage. Never again will I be dissapointed like that.

...why?

Because you can jack your jump skill up to the point that jumping is practically synonymous with gliding, which can be faster than running.

Oh, I know all about that. The number of hours I poured into Morrowind is embarrasingly high. I just don't see how he can blame the game for something he was choosing to do.

Fair enough. I spent a ton of time playing Morrowind too, but I actually liked being able to jump halfway to the moon, myself.

Oh man, so did I! It was crazy to back the camera all out and see just how high you could actually jump. Remember the Scrolls of Icarian flight, I believe they were called? The ones were you could literally almost jump across the entire game world. Of course you would die upon impact if your level was really low.

But yeah, I didn't get my jump skill to 100 by spamming the button. I just got it that high by playing for so damn long.

To keep this post on topic, I wonder if Obsidian is using a new engine or keeping Gambryo? I really don't have a problem with the graphics in Fallout 3, but I think the engine is really starting to show it's age.

I wonder if we'll be Vault Dwellers again. I think it'd be interesting to be out in Vegas, listening to the radio stations and hearing about your character's exploits in D.C.

The games engine isn't actually used to it's full potential.
You can get better models and high res textures but it's alot more demanding on the hardware. Ps3/360/mid-end pc's wouldn't be to handle it unless they done some magical wonderful optimization.

I hope they stylize the game abit more.
The models felt alittle on the sterile side.

Wow, I definitely didn't know the engine could handle such impressive facial models.

The main problem I have are the animations. The animations are awful in Fallout 3. Going into 3rd Person and watching your guy run around just looks so silly. The graphics are perfectly fine, it's the animations they need to work on.

Frankly, every game should license and use Euphoria. I'm still amazed by how realistic GTAIV feels.

I agree. I hate moon walking in the middle of the game, or trying to see if my character looks how I want it to, and seeing how weird I walk to and fro :( . Does the DLC animations look any better?

I doubt they improved the engine's animations in DLC.

The walking and running animations are definitely awkward. While the overall looks of their games have improved over time, Bethesda seems to consider the same stale animations they had in Morrowind to be perfectly suitable for current-gen games, which, unfortunately, they're not. Seriously, go back to Morrowind and look at how your character moves in 3rd-person. It's almost identical to how the Fallout and Oblivion characters move. The animations may be a little more fluid, but the characters still move really awkwardly.

I wish Bethseda's animations were better as well, but at the same time they've never really bothered me. It would definately be nice to have a perfect game that "has it all", but making a game is a lot like making a character in an RPG. You can have high strength, OR you can have high agility, OR you can have high intelligence, but you can't have all three. Game developers have to pick and choose what aspects of their games they want to focus their time and money on. If, for example, having better animations and graphics meant fewer quests in Fallout 4 or The Elder Scrolls V then forget it! I'll take more content over better visuals any day of the week.

True. To be honest, I barely even notice in Fallout 3, since I spend 99% of my time in 1st-person mode anyway.

Would take a shot in the dark and guess nearly everyone uses first person.
The facial animations are pretty unavoidable though. That zoomy thing has a horrible static feeling to it.

Yeah, that is something that could realistically be improved quite a bit. It's especially jarring in the background when everything in the game comes to a complete stop when you start talking to someone.

You forgot about these guys:

Game Informer
Worth Playing
IGN
Games Radar
OXM
Game Pro
Game Spy
Game Spot
EGM
Euro Gamer

All gave the game a score of over 80%

Like i said, not saying it was KoToR, but it wasnt terrible. And keeping this on topic, i think Obsidian will do fine with New Vegas.
