Bethesda Fallout: New Vegas (PC, PS3, 360)

Would take a shot in the dark and guess nearly everyone uses first person.
The facial animations are pretty unavoidable though. That zoomy thing has a horrible static feeling to it.

lol I stay in first person. Just me and the barrel of my guns. It irritated me the way it zooms into people who offer the lengthy dialogue. I always want to just turn away instead of hitting buttons to make it speed up.

I didn't mind that. I was used to it from Morrowind and Oblivion, and at least the faces look decent in Fallout 3.

Some of you might have seen the fansite set up by some fans at falloutnewvegas.com, which, while understandably lacking in content, had mostly the #1 spot in Google searches for Fallout: New Vegas. However, as of October 5, the site has been shut down. According to registration data, the domain is now registered with CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. As it turns out, so is bethsoft.com, zenimax.com and other domains owned by Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media.

Honestly, I was surprised that Bethesda had not registered the domain on the very day they announced the game, and them taking the domain over from the fansite now is simply them protecting their trademark. The fansite will likely be free to continue at some new address.

Now that the Game of the Year Edition of Fallout 3 is out, maybe we'll finally see some news about Fallout: New Vegas at the newly acquired address soon?

I'm pretty sure Area 51 will make it to this game, you guys agree?! :D

I hadn't considered that, but now that you mention it I could definately see it being there somewhere.

We have a mini-Area 51 already :oldrazz:

Area 51 should be a fun thing to see.

I would imagine there are some aspects of Fallout that won't be broken with this game. Being a valut dweller, for example.

Looking good. Obsidian did great with KOTOR II, but it was insanley buggy, once you waded out the bugs, it was a great game. So I hope this stays away from bugs.

Things I want improved from Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 was amazing, but there were some things that pulled it back from its great predecessors like Fallout and Fallout 2:

-A longer/stronger main quest
-A much harder boss, and more mini bosses like side quests use to have a certain character that you killed that it revolved around. So making more challenge is one thing for sure.
-Maybe a tad better animations.
-And figure out a better "getting mercenaries/robots to fight along side you.

I'm not saying Fallout 3 is bad, it was one of the best RPG's. Yet it had its short comings. And most of all, when you finish the main quest, allow the player to continue on to do sidequests.

I would really like to see them expand on the VATS system. I could potentially see it turning into an entire psuedo turn-based option.

As long as the gameplay is the same from Fallout 3, count me in.

Yea that would be great.

Yea no matter what I'm sure it will be fun. But they really need to make more challenging bosses, and parts. Fallout 3 was great, but the end boss was such a let down. Compared to the first two, it was a weak ending. But other then that it was beyond superb.

Hah, i thought the game was hard enough, but i understand what ya mean. I loved Fallout 3 through and through so as long as New Vegas remains largely the same type of game then i wont have a problem.

Are we supposed to know who the guy at the end, or who he works for, is? I assume the flag is supposed to be recognisable but it means nothing to me.

He is holding a California flag and there is a New California Republic in the older fallout games.

I would like to have something like a horse or something to make travelling faster. Maybe what those merchants have.

In Fallout 2 you could get a vehicle. So it would not be odd to do so.

Info:

It seems that some subscribers have received copies of this month's PC Gamer early, and some of them are now posting details from the 6-page Fallout: New Vegas preview in Bethesda Softworks forum.

Here is a list of things we suppodedly learn from the magazine (keep in mind that the info has not been verified yet):

- There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn't instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.
- The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar's Legion vs. New Vegas residents.
- You are not a vault dweller but are given a Pip-Boy by someone who is one.
- There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.
- There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new big gun with a backpack, held like a minigun.
- There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS - specifically a move for a golf club called "Fore" which seems to be a groin shot.
- The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.
- There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion
- The Geckos are back.
- There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.
- Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a 1950s hairstyle who apparently is one of their leaders.
- Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul an NCR Ranger
- The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot
- Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels
- A character generation shot showing a "vigour machine" instead of the skill book
- NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar's Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter. Area 51 also appears.
- NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger
- Skils have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a coversation about explosives where appropriate.
- There is a Reputation system in adition to Karma

I love Obisidian, and i can´t wait for this one and Alpha Protocol, but what i find funny is that, after they said that they didn´t tried to buy the Fallout Ip because they wanted to start anew, with no attachments to the past (Obsidian was once known as Black Isle, and they are the creators of Fallout), and now, they are doing it.

I love the idea of the Hardcore Mode. I will most likely play that. Hopefully regardless they put some challenging bosses in there. Other then that it sounds good.

Is it okay to post scans of screenshots, or even link them?

New Vegas 'wittier' than Fallout 3

In an exclusive first look at Fallout New Vegas, CVG sister mag PSM3 reveals that developer Obsidian has taken dialogue and scripting up a notch in the sequel to Fallout 3.

Lead producer of Fallout New Vegas, Larry Liberty said: "We had to modify the dialogue engine from Fallout 3 to include the types of dialogue and options that we wanted.

"We want real, memorable characters. I think it helps you to remember parts of the world you'd otherwise forget."

As part of its world-exclusive cover feature, PSM3 played an extensive demo of New Vegas. The mag reported that it was 'apparent that Obsidian are much more comfortable behind the keyboard than the team that made Fallout 3 and, before that, Oblivion. The scripting is wittier, the characters more distinct.'

We brought you the official trailer for Fallout New Vegas on Thursday.

You can read PSM3's full first look in issue 124, which goes on sale on Thursday 4 February.

Not surprising. A lot of people seem to give them jip about KOTOR 2 like there some sort of horrible developer without being aware that many of the staff were members were part of Black Isle Studios. Planescape Torment is one of the best stories you will find in a video game, certainly better than any of Bioware of Bethesda games. KOTOR 2 wasn't really a finished product.
