Fast and the Furious 9: The Fast Saga

Question for y’all. When did you hop onboard this series? Has anyone stuck with this thing since the beginning in 2001? Did some of you join late?

I actually started with Fast 6. I saw it on a plane randomly and loved how over the top bonkers it was and was like “wait, has this whole series been like this?!” And then back tracked and watched the other movies.

Been with it since the 1st one. Dug it as an unofficial point break remake. Wasn't feeling 2 and 3 as much. 4 brought my spirit back and 5 is the top in the series to me. I feel like 7 should have ended it but I'm sticking to it until the end.

I go back to the Point Break remake but only started getting excited about a new movie coming out with Fast Five

Oh my Zod, I just watched it.

First, Michelle in that short hair cut is [chef’s kiss].

Second, it looks spectacularly dumb in the great way that was F&F/Fast 6. Nice reboot off of the 7/8 **** show...

Third, MF’n Han. I honestly don’t care how and why even through it slightly makes me mad - he’s just so awesome.

I’m in.

It’s like TDKRises and Infinity War had a F&F baby

Han Omg!

This looks even more ludicrous than before now a Car can do the Tarzan jungle swing? Magnitic jet plane that catches cars(over the top much?)

John Cena as The older Brother (Mmmm)

The over the top stuff in the past couple of films in the franchise was pushing it, particularly Fate of the Furious, but this looks like a circus of ****ery. The whole "Vin Diesel in space" joke looks like it could actually be a reality for Fast 10 at this point. Jesus Christ.

That trailer gave me the most stupidest grin ever. I can't believe this is my birthday movie.

Oh, and I bet the trailer for Fast 10 will end with a CGI Paul Walker. :o

I can’t wait for Adam Scott’s HDTGM Podcast episode about this movie.

Why haven’t they brought back Buffalo Bill, cowards.

I admit I enjoy their shameless reveal of pretty much every twist and action sequence. Basically saying we're still gonna see it anyway. If this was any other franchise the Han and Cena as brother twists would not have been showcased until the damn thing opened.

We’re supposed to believe John Cena is Vin Diesel’s brother?
Vin Diesel’s ethnically ambiguous as hell, but I’m SURE he and Jordana Brewster aren’t as lily white as Cena.

Theres something not quite the same seeing this crew without Paul. It feels like theres a vital element missing from the group.

A token white person which they tried to recreate and failed.

Rewatching TF&TF now, and the photo that Dom shows of his dad oddly does look a little like John Cena...

I saw the header pic for this trailer of the rocket-boosted car on the BMD site and I laughed heartily for a few seconds. I’m totally in.

I get it. These films aren’t for everyone. You’re either all in or you aren’t. As for me, I’ll always appreciate how much this series willingly embraces the absurdity of its premise and continuously raises the bar to new heights of awesomely self-aware, comic book movie/anime-tier ridiculousness, while also being grounded by the smaller moments and interactions from the characters. They're half of what makes these movies what they are. You could have the entire team in space with custom, space-worthy muscle cars stopping a meteor from crashing into earth with specially outfitted rockets, and I would still be invested. Take away the time we’ve spent with these characters, and it truly would just be the empty sound and fury that most of it’s detractors claim it be.

It’s dumb and admittedly simple as hell, but it’s also sincere, and I’ll always love it for that.

Also, I don’t care how they did it (clone, time travel, robot, cyborg, etc.), I’m just so glad to see Han back.

As for complaints about soap opera drama, look up the premise for the first film, which reads like the synopsis for a modern CW show. Soap opera has always been in this series’ blood.

"Tickets on sale Now !", Really ? The movie releases on 22nd May. :funny:

I've been watching these since 2001. The first film and the 8th film are the only ones I've not watched in theaters. Unless this 9th film gets shockingly high reviews in the 90s (when hell freezes over) I'll be waiting to rent it on Vudu. I'm just tired of Dom's character and Diesel's ego trip. The series would be better if they would kill Dom's character and have Hobbes or maybe Tej run the crew.

I should go ahead and a-list one just for the hell of it, but I know there will be something I need to watch three times in a row between now and then.

F10- They strap rockets to ALL THE CARS to shoot them into space because taking a flight to Brazil(example) would take too long

I've always enjoyed the first two films, but it wasn't until Fast Five that I actually became a real fan and that movie is still the peak of this franchise IMO. It's crazy to me just how much more grounded and realistic that movie looks now compared to some of this later stuff lol.

Diesel is half white. So him and Cena as brothers isn’t completely outta the realm of possibility.

I’ve been riding with this franchise from the beginning. I missed 4 and 5 in theaters along with Hobbs and Shaw. I just was too broke at those times.

I feel that Lin has offered up the best contributions though and I include Tokyo Drift in that. Not a great film, but you can’t deny the cultural impact.

John Cena as a bad guy? He hasn't been a bad guy in 15 years.

I saw Bad Boys For Life today and me and my cousin both loved how the action struck a balance between the modern style and the oldschool, I then proceeded to tell him I thought Fast 9's trailer tonight will show they have scaled the crazy back as Hobbs & Shaw kinda took it far as it could.........yeah, I was waaayyyy off! :funny:

So John Cena finally turns heel! I wasn't expecting him to be the bad guy and certainly not Dom's brother, in fact I don't recall it ever being mentioned that Dom had a brother. The action seems more CGI heavy than usual and the structure of the trailer is choppy so no sequence gets a tonne of shine until we get to the utterly bonkers Tarzan car stunt. :lmao: Poor Charlize thought she had the big moment with her magnetic stealth plane, only for Vin to scupper it!

I was wondering where the over the top military hardware was in the movie. Thankfully, the end of the trailer delivered.

I would have sworn they were going to fridge Gina Rodriguez's character. Glad they didn't. Though, I have to laugh hard at them bringing back Han (bring back Giselle as well, please), followed by a large "JUSTICE".

You thought they'd kill Letty off?

I've been there since the first movie, I think it was @terry78 that summed it up after the last novie when he said it's amazing how we've gone from jacking DVD players off a truck to going up agaisnt nuclear subs. :D

Finally watched the trailer.

Michelle Rodriguez with short hair is my jam.

Jesus, the first film back in the 00s pretty much plays like an art house flick in comparison. I'm in! Also, didn't Dom/Vin say he was visiting his latino cousin in cuba, two or three flicks ago? lawd. But, I guess you need a big physical presence after The Rock gave him the finger and got his own successful spin-off. I also don't know how they convincingly get around Paul Walker not being around, cause based on previous flicks, he would've never let Mia or Dom got at it alone, so they need a better excuse this time. I now fully expect Cena to join the team in the next one and...Gadot/Giselle to show up in the creds. I hope so.
