Somehow, Fast 9 did fine in a pandemic without Johnson in it. The level of enjoyment may have dropped without him but the audience still showed up.He knows the franchise sells more tickets if Dwayne is in it.
In a new interview with CNN, Johnson responded to the request, criticizing Diesel for voicing an invite on social media after the two had already reached an agreement in private.
“I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return,” Johnson explained. “Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.”
However, Johnson went on to express his well wishes for the “Fast & Furious” family ahead of their next, and ostensibly penultimate, outing.
“My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible franchise with gratitude and grace,” Johnson said. “It’s unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters. Regardless, I’m confident in the ‘Fast’ universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience… I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”
I'm going to chalk up Fast 9 coming out at the right time when Covid cases were relatively low and movie theaters started opening up again in droves as the reason why it did so well. They should have stopped with 7 and continued the franchise with the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff movies.I think most people are over this franchise, as it’s gotten more ridiculous and Vin has made his character completely infallible and boring. It will still make money but it’s clearly all about Vin’s ego now.
It's funny how Johnson says he's not returning to the franchise although he's got no problem making more Hobbs and Shaw movies, which are technically still part of the F&F franchise.
Yeah, I'd rather see Johnson return for a Hobbs and Saw 2,
Then the franchise would end with the final F&F movie and that'd be the end of it. But as you said, money talks so that ain't gonna happen. Hobbs and Shaw gives the F&F franchise a few more years of life at best.Isn’t Diesel a producer on all the F&F films, including Hobbs & Shaw? If he wanted to, could he keep Dwayne from appearing in any future installments? Not saying he would (at the end of the day, what matters most is $$$) but I’m just curious what would happen if he took this feud to new levels.

Johnson would easily walk away. He doesn't need Hobbs & Shaw.Right but I was wondering if Vin could pull rank and tell Dwayne that H&S 2 only happens if he makes appearances in the final two F&F movies.
Ironic really when the same could be said for Vin Diesel and "I am Groot". Its probably how they got her onboard in the first place lolThese movies have got to be the easiest paychecks for her. She films most of all her scenes on her own in a room somewhere away from everyone else and gets paid millions.
I do love that Marvel had Diesel say "I Am Groot" in every language imaginable. They make him earn that paycheck.Ironic really when the same could be said for Vin Diesel and "I am Groot". Its probably how they got her onboard in the first place lol
I don't know what took me so long, but I watched the first fast and furious for the first time this morning. I'm 28, so it's not like i haven't been aware of the franchise since the first came out haha, but I liked it well enough. I'm just not sure if I should continue to do the whole series or what. Is it worth it?
