Fast and the Furious 9: The Fast Saga

He knows the franchise sells more tickets if Dwayne is in it.
Somehow, Fast 9 did fine in a pandemic without Johnson in it. The level of enjoyment may have dropped without him but the audience still showed up.

I do hope Johnson comes back. In a franchise where characters constantly come back from the dead, it feels weird having a key member inexplicably absent. You could say the same about Paul Walker of course but there’s nothing you can do about that unless you’re going to deep fake him into future installments (which they will probably do but only for a few seconds).

In a new interview with CNN, Johnson responded to the request, criticizing Diesel for voicing an invite on social media after the two had already reached an agreement in private.

“I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return,” Johnson explained. “Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.”

However, Johnson went on to express his well wishes for the “Fast & Furious” family ahead of their next, and ostensibly penultimate, outing.

“My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible franchise with gratitude and grace,” Johnson said. “It’s unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters. Regardless, I’m confident in the ‘Fast’ universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience… I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”

Yeap he’s right here. Bringing it up in an Instagram post and using Walker’s death is crass manipulation and most people saw through it.

I think most people are over this franchise, as it’s gotten more ridiculous and Vin has made his character completely infallible and boring. It will still make money but it’s clearly all about Vin’s ego now.

It's funny how Johnson says he's not returning to the franchise although he's got no problem making more Hobbs and Shaw movies, which are technically still part of the F&F franchise.

I'm going to chalk up Fast 9 coming out at the right time when Covid cases were relatively low and movie theaters started opening up again in droves as the reason why it did so well. They should have stopped with 7 and continued the franchise with the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff movies.

Lol true, but I think he now considers that its own thing (so no future Dom cameo in those). In the end, he’s just being polite about it being the Fast Furious franchise specifically when he means Vin Diesel aka. his stance not to work with toxic people anymore.

Yeah, I'd rather see Johnson return for a Hobbs and Saw 2, myself. The first movie has some leftover questions regarding the head of that terrorist group.....

Geez this is some ginger spice versus the rest of the spice girls level drama

Isn’t Diesel a producer on all the F&F films, including Hobbs & Shaw? If he wanted to, could he keep Dwayne from appearing in any future installments? Not saying he would (at the end of the day, what matters most is $$$) but I’m just curious what would happen if he took this feud to new levels.

Then the franchise would end with the final F&F movie and that'd be the end of it. But as you said, money talks so that ain't gonna happen. Hobbs and Shaw gives the F&F franchise a few more years of life at best.

Right but I was wondering if Vin could pull rank and tell Dwayne that H&S 2 only happens if he makes appearances in the final two F&F movies.

Yeah I just watched FF 9. What the hell was up with that sequence where he's near death and basically going through his life?

The whole movie was all about him and an occasional cut to Roman being messed around with by Tej

Johnson would easily walk away. He doesn't need Hobbs & Shaw.

The final film of the franchise needs to put on all of the stops: a return to space but also Dom and Crew time traveling and fighting all at once: zombies, aliens, vampires, Cowboys, Native Americans, robots, Ninjas, clones of Nick Cage and Keanu Reeves, Danny Trejo, the cast of the Expendables movies (including Jason Statham, even though he's already Shaw), dinosaurs, Godzilla, King Kong, swarm of Killer Bees, all of the major horror monsters like Wolfman, Dracula, The Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Frankenstein but also Michael Meyers, Freddie Kruger, Jason Vorhees, Pinhead, Ghost Face, Leatherface and Chucky all the while trying to avoid a string of natural disasters like earthquakes, typhoons, monsoons, tornadoes, hurricanes, mud slides and meteor strikes all at once.

And through all of that, Dom and Crew come away unscathed as Dom declares that they are a family.

Charlize Theron flees to her space station base and unleashes the creatures from "Pitch Black" which we soon find out is a prequel to that movie

These movies have got to be the easiest paychecks for her. She films most of all her scenes on her own in a room somewhere away from everyone else and gets paid millions.

I don't know what took me so long, but I watched the first fast and furious for the first time this morning. I'm 28, so it's not like i haven't been aware of the franchise since the first came out haha, but I liked it well enough. I'm just not sure if I should continue to do the whole series or what. Is it worth it?

Ironic really when the same could be said for Vin Diesel and "I am Groot". Its probably how they got her onboard in the first place lol

I do love that Marvel had Diesel say "I Am Groot" in every language imaginable. They make him earn that paycheck.

Your mileage (pun!) may vary. Just keep in mind, it gets worse (2) before it gets better (5) and then gets worse again (7) to worse (8) and worse (9).

Tej and Roman together encountering zombies could be a lot of fun. Tej could engineer all kinds of anti zombie weaponry and car defenses and Roman could do his usual slapstick shenanigans.

3-6 are the only ones worth it
