Fast and the Furious 9: The Fast Saga

I guess this could end up being the biggest grosser of the year!

Barring Spider-Man or some unexpected film surprising or something.
Just a few weeks ago I presumed that No Way Home would be the top earner of the year, possibly even being the first post-pandemic film to pass $1 billion, but with the Delta variant running rampant who knows what this winter will look like.

I am going to see this next week, but it's doing really well box office wise.

Wow this movie was crazy and over the top! The story was somewhat confusing and left me with more questions but I did like it more than F8. Probably a 6/10 for me.

I definitely don't regret not watching this in a theatre as its easily one of my least favorite films in the franchise. For me this just wasn't as entertaining to watch as the previous movies IMO with all the forced melodrama which honestly took me out of the movie more than anything, especially those flashback scenes.

Some of the action was fun though mostly at the beginning, but god was this thing convoluted and messy and I'm getting tired of these generic bad guys who just want to steal all these dangerous devices which felt like something that was already done in F7 and I wasn't crazy about it then either.

Wasn't a fan of the BS explanation they gave for Han coming back, but I already knew I wasn't going to like it after hearing from other people what it was and I'm honestly not looking forward to Cena being apart of any future installments in this franchise if they aren't even going to allow to bring anykind of personality to these movies because he pretty much had the same expression on his face the entire time.

Jakob was such a bland character to bring into this franchise and now I know I'm going to miss The Rock as Hobbs even more now because the only ones that seemed to know what kind of movies they are in are Tyrese and Ludacris who still bring the most energy to this while everyone else takes it way too seriously.

Also, its just sad seeing them waste someone as talented Charlize Theron once again and the fact they she might possibly get her own spinoff movie while being given almost nothing to do in this franchise so far just doesn't make sense at all, but maybe Universal knows something I don't.

Literally nothing makes sense but the mayhem on screen is beautiful and fun and god damn it, I just love the way Justin Lin shoots car chases. That alone made me enjoy this more than 7 and 8 which I thought were both stupid and unfun. 8 more so than 7. It was nice having him back. I’d probably give this a 3/5.

I would give it a 5/5 if only
after Roman survived falling on that land mine, the car actually fell on him and killed him :funny:. Mean-spirited? Yes but Tyrese’s “acting” and “comedy” is getting more and more difficult to put up with each film :oldrazz:.

Just watched this on Prime. It’s stupid as hell and barely makes any sense but… I enjoyed it. I definitely liked it more than F8 and Hobbs & Shaw. But is it me or… have the Tokyo Drift guys (Han included) aged way faster than everyone else?

That’s true. Though Lucas Black was ageing during Tokyo Drift too so…

Also, just saw that he’s telling people not to get vaccinated on twitter .

Even though this franchise has completely left the world of remotely realistic a long time ago, I couldn't believe my eyes when Vin Diesel grabbed two chains and pulled down a concrete ceiling on top of some guys.

Ugh yeah I just looked at his Twitter feed. What an idiot. You know, I used to kinda feel bad for Lucas Black with the way everyone makes fun of his acting because it’s not like anyone is turning in Oscar-worthy performances in this franchise. But screw him. I’m tired of science-denying imbeciles spreading misinformation (and the virus). He seems to think that “Jesus” will protect him from the virus or something. Fortunately, I doubt there are many people taking medical advice from this moron but you just know that SOMEONE is.

Anyway, one problem this franchise has is that there are just TOO many characters that they keep being back. They’re hard to keep track of. Like, Sean didn’t need to come back but since Han was in this one it makes sense. But some of the other ones… like, Shea Wigham shows up for a minute in this movie. I totally forgot he appeared in a couple of the other films. And then later, Cardi B shows up and I was like, “Wait… was she in one of the other films?” Nope! But given that she’s one of 5 billion people who owe Dom a favor, it looks that way.

I don’t even remember Shea Wigham in F9. What scene was he involved in?

It's a blink and you'll miss him cameo.

It really is annoying that Diesel A-holed this situation with the Rock to the point where he won’t show up in the last two films. Maybe Johnson is equally to blame here, I don’t know. But that last comment that Diesel made just made him come off like the biggest jackass and it pretty much guaranteed that Hobbs would never be coming back to the main series.

Yeah! At first, I thought it was entertaining, now it’s just tiring.

They both seem childish.

Johnson did the best thing just saying “goodbye” when it ain’t working out. Diesel decided to make some weird acting comment about it and brought the whole thing up again. There’s really only one child left now.

I'm a fan of both guys, but from everything I've heard it definitely sounds like Diesel is the biggest diva ever when it comes to these movies and that's dissapointing to hear because it's super childish.

I mean they both have pretty big ego's, but Diesel has showed in the past just how full of himself he can be which shoudn't be the case when he hasn't had a single hit outside of this franchise for the past decade.

Neither one of them has lived up to their potential IMO, but atleast Johnson has proven he can be draw and headline hits even if some of his movies end up being duds like The Baywatch reboot or Skyscraper.

It feels like Diesel feels he owns this particular franchise and doesn't want The Rock stealing away the limelight.

So While I finally got to watch this I'm split on it a bit still.

I'm on record here saying I loved the series from the first film to Fast Five (outside 2Fast). Those were my favorites and easily the best in the series in my opinion. Fast 6 was one of my least favorites and the EXTEREME ridiculousness started here (again, outside of 2Fast another film I enjoy but not my favorite).

I enjoyed this film over Fast 6 but not sure if I liked it more than 2Fast or not. So I guess this film will likely be my 2nd or 3rd least favorite film of the series.

I had Zero issues with John Cena. Thought he did well. The Dom's brother part didnt bother me at all. If something like this really happened I could see him not being mentioned until now (I too have "family" that is not talked about).
Still lots of ridiculous otherwordly type stuff that's become popular since Fast 6 that I just dont care for.

Enjoyed it? Yes. I enjoy the entire series as a whole. But unfortunately another weak link in the series outside of a few things.

I really... REALLY hope that Fast 10 or Fast 11 brings it back full circle, scale it down a bit and go back to the roots. I've had enough of the Super Spy type crap. I'm fine with them having a villain, I'm fine with them doing action. But this series should be Mission Impossible. All this can still be done in a movie that has Racing, Family and Villains without the need for the Super Spy crap.

If Fast 10 wraps up the Super spy stuff I'd be happy. Take out Cipher in a more grounded world and close the series full circle with less unbelievable over the top action with a film that feels more like the first film. The End.

Honestly Hobbs storyline basically played it outself out after six. There’s no reason for him to come back, not that they wouldn’t have tried if Rock wanted to come back.
