Favorite action sequence in Man of Steel

I gotta go Superman vs Zod they built to that perfectly and when they finally locked horns (Superman kicking Zod's ass through cornfields was one sided) I was on the edge of my seat. The moment Zod dropped the armour, I was like YESS game on!!!

Zod vs JorEL was pretty cool. It even had better hand to hand than most bat fights these days imo.

Far better.

I love the Bat films but Nolan was horrible at fight choreography.

The music when Superman was flying up the beam and was crosscutting between that and Perry/Jenny was amazing.

The Zod fight was stunning though. Was not expecting that they would be flying for the majority of it.

Surpassed the potential of the comic book film.

Smashlilman, this was a great idea for a thread!

I am currently basking in the afterglow of this movie, so many good action set pieces. Hard to choose.

Jor-El going all Daniel Craig James Bond on his detainers and whoopin Zod.

Faora casually superspeeding from opponent to opponent, smacking them away like a boss!

Superman vs Faora and Nam-ek.

Superman vs Zod.

I dont know if Superman vs anti-gravity beam is technically an action scene, but so much drama! Reminded me of the old Fleitcher cartoon. I knew it was coming, but I was still gawking at the screen slack-jawed.

Tbh the last hour was pretty much one giant huge action scene :woot:

The Supes/Faora battle was the best.
I was looking forward to the Shannon/Crowe battle, but I was like, "That was it?"

Easily the one with Faora in Smallville. The final fight with Zod just felt too repetitive.

The battle with Faora in Smallville. It was brutal. Intense and a unique action scene I have never seen before in any movie.

True, I don't the large scale they were going for but change it up a little.

Yep, the Faora scenes were the movie-stealers to me.

I actually want Faora to become a big part of Superman's rogues gallery in the comments now, simply because of Antje Traue's performance of her. I would love to hear more about her backstory.

The fighting style was incredible, and is a great template for a Flash movie.

Out of all the Faora fighting scenes, I think her taking out the soldiers with superspeed was the best, I wanted to see more of that actually, the scene went by so quickly lol.

This wasn't my favorite action scene, but I feel like it's worth mentioning to see if anyone else got chills like I did. During the oil rig scene, that dramatic build up of drums while he's getting everyone into the helicopter and the thing begins to topple over. He rushes over and as soon as he braces it for the copter to fly off that music gets epic "Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, dun dun, dun dun bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan dun, dun dun". That moment made me smile so huge the first time I saw it. It was just a simple moment but the combination of his first heroic act in the movie combined with Zimmer's score was so awesome.

It's not my favourite but when Supes grabs Zod and slams him through Smallville after threatening Ma Kent was awesome

Superman vs. the World Engine. It was a Fleischer/STAS/DCAU sci-fi sequence finally brought to life. The urban brawls would have much better if there was more stuff of Supes dividing his attention between fighting Zod/Faora and him rescuing/protecting civilians. Needed way more stuff like Superman catching the falling soldier and saving Hardy's life. Those moments broke up the repetitiveness of the Smallville battle and made it seem fresher. In particular, just saving people from collateral damage to buildings and such would be even better. I never thought I would praise Superman Returns for that, but I really missed it. Returns' mistake was having that sort of stuff compose an entire set piece and the bulk of the third act action minus the continent lifting. Mixing that stuff in with the super brawl would have been phenomenal.

With all the tentacles it just felt a bit too much, zoned out after awhile.

You can't really go wrong with the Smallville battle or the last fight with Zod

I think the whole tentacles scene was completely unnecessary. It didn't serve, or advance, the plot in any way. That's an example of a scene that made the critique, that the last 1/4 of the movie was overload, valid.

Another awesome seen though is when supes uses his laser-vision to melt the metal beam Zod is swinging at him. Loved that. Especially how Supes shudders when his eyes go back to normal. Shows that it's not just a power that's easy to use, or that it does't come with pain/strain.

Overall scene, The Smallville battle.

Favorite action moment: The scene of Supes punching Zod miles through the air and the subsequent scene of following Supes through the city.

Though the briefest, my favorite action moment is when Superman flies in and grabs Zod after threatening Clark's mom. It was the first Superman fight scene in the movie to show the new scale of Superman action, and the fact that the scene was also emotionally charged really kicked in the thrill and adrenaline for me. And that emotional adrenaline Superman had allowed me to not be so bothered by the destruction left behind the path of that sequence. I wasn't sure how I felt about so much reckless collateral damage in the movie the first time I saw it. (After thinking about it, and seeing the movie a second time, I've decided it doesn't bother me much.)

That might be my absolute favourite, "YOU THINK YOU CAN THREATEN MY MOTHER".

Not even a question. Zack Snyder's hand to hand fights have always been great, and that Zod vs Jor-El fight was better than any live action Batman fight we've ever seen.

I think the Smallville battle best shows the humans around Superman, and is the most realistic one.

There's a part in the film when Henry appears to be using the wires, but is switched back to barely detectable CG. The Metropolis battle goes on for a bit too long, though the shot of them colliding in the sunset has been changed back to its pretty and natural hue. It seems that these guys might actually listen to the fans as far as post goes ;)
