I don’t think the Founding Fathers ever imagined that one day they’ll be giving the pardoning power to a criminal who would use it to silent key witnesses against him. I hope the Democrats will do something about it when they finally capture the WH and the Congress.

Well, they assumed a Congress that would keep the president in check via impeachment. A lot of our system breaks down when you have bad players in the mix on all levels.

You have to love the hypocrisy. Where are the family values republicans that went after Clinton with pitchforks for his affair?

Trump, amongst many other accused crimes, is accused of an affair. An affair he tried to cover up quietly with campaign contributions. An affair he's repeatedly denied despite quite a bit of evidence to the contrary. His accuser saying he hired a goon to threaten her while she held her baby. On top of that Trump's admitted to sexual assault on tape, and is accused of several other affairs.

Oh right, they're too busy supporting a child molester, and trying to get a pimp into office. When push comes to shove on what they espouse their standards, and values to be, they buckle left, and right. Trump is the epitome of what republicans used to say they were against. A wannabe dictator, who serially cheats on his wife, wastes tax payer dollars, possibly undermined US democracy with help of a foreign adversary, and wants massive government over reach in forms like controlling the free press.

You'd think he'd be public enemy number 1 going by what they said just a decade, or two ago.

Well that was 18/20 years ago and they technically went after him for perjury about his affair-and the Democrats felt that wasn't too bad. The general public also felt both the affair and illegality with perjury were not that bad, not removable offenses, it's not surprising Republican attitudes would change after 18 years, especially to be more like the general public, especially yes of course when it is about someone of their party.

Edit: Trump did get a lot of opposition in the primaries but won with pluralities and the Republican primaries award the delegates as winner-takes-all.

But Cohen's lawyer Lanny Davis claims Cohen has evidence.


IF (big "if") that's true, and Cohen has real, solid evidence to back him up, then whether we can trust his word won't matter so much, because we won't have to.


Same with Rick Gates. He's a heavily-flawed witness in and of himself, but his testimony was surrounded and corroborated by documentation and mountains of paperwork.

So we'll have to see what Cohen actually has to offer Mueller.

Yeah the way I was reading it sounded like they need a all the dominos to fall in the right way before it has a chance.

Just from reading some political pundits that getting two thirds of the Senate to agree on anything can be difficult at best. Getting two thirds to impeach a president is near impossible as many from both sides will just blindly support there guy or woman.

If I had to guess, Dem leadership probably sees the possible situations as this:

1. Worst Case scenario: the Dems win neither the House nor the Senate. In this scenario, their goal is likely to focus exclusively on planning for 2020. This seems unlikely, but is still possible.

2. Most Likely scenario: the Dems win the House, but the Republicans hold the Senate. Here, the Democrats could still consider impeachment a possibility... But a *very* remote one. The House Dems will ruthlessly pursue dragging every last scandal the WH has perpetrated into the light: expect attempts to subpoena VP Pence to break down in public the exact order of when Flynn lied to him, Trump Jr. interviewed again about the Trump Torwe meeting, but in public, Trump's son-in-law to have to answer why his security clearance was so inadequate for so long, in public, Omarosa questioned how she manages to record a conversation in a top security room, in public, and in general, every single thing about the Russia investigation resurrected in public. The main goal would remain gearing up for 2020, but listening to see if there's any chance of GOP Senators doing the most unlikely thing and growing a spine.

3. Best case scenario. Dems manage to win both Houses as unlikely as that is, and win convincingly in both, enough to feel that they genuinely have a mandate to go after Trump. This is *highly* unlikely, but still something of a possibility. If this did occur expect the same dredging up of scandals from #2, but now with a goal of directly convincing those GOP Senators who know they could survive voting against Trump to feel out their older, possibly retiring comrades to see what kind of coalition could be formed. Succeeding would still be highly unlikely, but that would be their goal then.

Yeah, well, maybe next time the president won't have committed crimes that he's hoping a Supreme Court Justice will clear him of. And besides, McConnell already pulled this **** and his only justification for it was that it was 8 months until an election. A president who has been implicated in a crime (and under investigation for others) that may have been instrumental in his becoming president should NOT get to make a lifetime appointment.
