The Rise of Skywalker For those that have seen it, a spoiler thread...

Were the Sith Army clones? They didnt really explain how the hell Palpatine amasses a fleet of advanced warships on his own out in a hidden pocket to the universe.
This is where I wish they had explained even in a short snitbit.in the film without going into full details, and some slight problem in everything being cannon now.

You shouldn’t have to but if you read book series, or any it would’ve felt more expanded on then your regular movie goer. They had teased what he was up to amassing the fleet for some time in the rest of cannon stuff. Not sure if it was time restraints or just overlooked but yeah a line or two could’ve at least explained it instead of making you reliant on other forms of cannon for that answer.

I feel like people just assumed with the cult that was already in league with him more of them that were loyal to the cause just joined up over the decades. Also, Pryde may have had something to do with recruitment.

While JJ did retcon, and dump on what Johnson did. He did expand or revisit force powers introduced by Johnson in TLJ.

With the introduction of being able to transfer objects with that connection Rey and Kylo had which was teased by a Johnson in how he handled that power in TLJ.

Then having Leia die like Luke using a force projection. I get why he did it, so I accept it more than Lukes since you can’t really change what johnson introduced by killing Luke.

They were using rehashed footage from TFA and working around it. I like the idea Leia much like Luke force projected Han in front of Kylo to save him, but it was likely Leia the entire time.

Given how Luke when he did it he made himself look like his younger version with the blue lightsaber he clearly never had since Empire, and Rey currently had in his projection. Leia makes herself appear to be Han.

I hated that power but felt its use was more acceptable here given circumstances surrounding a Carrie Fisher. Plus I was shocked to see Harrison come back again.

I couldn't wrap my head around exactly how the Force-time fights were supposed to be working. In Last Jedi, a little water gets through, sure I follow that. A great touch there. But this is a full-blown lightsaber duel. In two places simultaneously? Flashing back and forth between the two locations? Not really in this plain of existence and more akin to an astral projection? I honestly don't know.

Like if Poe walked around the corner and saw this fight, what would he even see?

I don't think Palpatine creating life in a womb to make Sheev Jr works. If that's the case, wouldn't Anakin be his child also? And how does it work in such a way that this is a blood descendant if the midichlorians do it?

Judging by everyone's age, we're made to think that prune Palpatine had a family or copulated in some other way with some woman out there in the galaxy far, far, and not far enough away.

I don't know. But that's what I'd have to assume over a traditional family.

Apparently Palpatine had a son and Grandson in the EU as well:

Son was named Triclops
He eventually escaped from the clutches of the Empire and, betraying his father, joined the Rebel Alliance with his son Ken before disappearing from the galaxy entirely.

Some spoilery hot takes:

Rey's reveal to be Palpatine's granddaughter worked okay, if a little forced. I just really would have preferred it had Luke lived in TLJ so that he could have faced off with Palpatine again.

Leia was given about as best a sendoff as possible.

Kylo Ren felt very sidelined in this. His story ended about as predictably as I thought it would. The kiss with Rey was groan-inducing.

Lando's return was welcome. Billy Dee Williams pretty much picked up right were he left off in Return of the Jedi. IMO his presence would have improved The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Finn and Poe felt like actual characters again, and I did really like the reveal that Finn was Force sensitive.

They basically gave Rose the Jar Jar treatment and gave her much less screentime than in the previous film, which I thought was unfair to Kelly Marie Tran. Not like I'm that fond of the character, she didn't do a bad job in the role but I feel like they scaled her character back due to the backlash from toxic fans after TLJ. When you think about it, she could have filled the role that Jannah had, whose character seemingly only served as a possible love interest for Lando (???).

Keri Russell's character had a disappointingly short amount of screentime and she didn't even take her helmet off completely. Basically all of the new characters introduced here seemed useless.

Loved Wedge's cameo. Wish he had more than one line but I was happy to see him again. Speaking of X-Wing pilots, Snap Wexley's death probably would have hit home more if we had seen him in TLJ.

One of the best moments for me was the voice cameo scene during the final confrontation. I had expected to hear Yoda, Obi-Wan (Ewan) and Luke, but hearing Qui-Gon, Mace Windu, and others like Ahsoka and Kanan? That was a nice touch on JJ's part.

Oh interesting i thought it was just a simple i love you Rey lol

In that scenario a simple i love you Rey would have made more sense. Why would he have to be near death for him to say he's force sensitive, and then why would they not have him resolve that directly with the other characters? I don't agree with that approach. Some really good scenes coild have came out of that.

Can I just get a prequel about the adventures of Rey’s mom, Darth Villanelle? :D

He would see one of them engaging an invisible enemy.
And that's so... goofy.

This is so indicative of the two filmmaker's styles. Johnson knows how to toe the line concerning just how tactile this direct line is between the two; it's a blurry connection and there's some ambiguity there but the water gets through so you knows it's actually real on some minor level; but it really works because these scenes are purely character driven. Not to mention I think there's an elegance to the way Johnson's Force connection is achieved via the pure cinema techniques of blocking and editing and angles. It's a clever filmmaking conceit in service of basic, effective drama.

And then JJ takes this carefully threaded tonal and narrative needle, and he turns it into a confusing fight scene.

Yeah and the two actors have a lot of chemistry and it was clear from the start that fin had a thing for Rey and it would have been nice for them to bulid on it. Rey should have kissed fin not Kylo at some point.

Long lost daughter seemed obvious to me even without knowing the cut material existed.

I mean, that is cool and all but doesn't make this work any better in the movie. Palpatine still feels like a transparent inclusion to make up for lack of ideas and originality

No matter anyones opinion of the film, a real highlight for me was C-3PO. Anthony Daniels has so much more to work with than the previous two. And it was great to see Threepio with something to actually do in the film for the first time since ROTJ.
Absolutely. This was easily my favorite 3PO plotline of the whole saga. Anthony was firing on all cylinders.

I took the kiss as between Ben and Rey as more of a compassionate one than a romantic one. Am I the only one who did?

I think JJ is full of it here. I know, obviously, he made the movie. But it makes no sense whatsoever that that's what he would say when he thought he'd die

It really wasnt that confusing or even goofy. The Force isnt bound by space and time. We see that in Rebels with the world between worlds. Rey and Kylo are a Dyad and connected wherever they are and no matter how far they are apart. So Rey and Kylo being able to interact across space and time fits right in with that.

And I wouldn't get hung up on what it would look like to outside oberservers. These are space wizards that do magic. So much of what they do looks weird, goofy, bizarre, insane, and absurd to non space wizards. I really doubt Rey or Kylo would be concerned with whether people think they look cool during their interactions. The more important thing is whether it looks good to the viewer.
