The Rise of Skywalker For those that have seen it, a spoiler thread...

I took the kiss as between Ben and Rey as more of a compassionate one than a romantic one. Am I the only one who did?

A compassionate kiss on the lips after looking into each other's eyes...

Yeah that scene was still incredibly awkward to me no matter how you look at it. It could have been executed much better IMO had their at least been some build up to it.

I disagree with this to a degree. It was very awkward, but it was built up to. Did no one else feel the very palpable sexual tension between the two characters basically all movie? So the build-up was definitely there, it's the placing that's off. It's just kind of weird how they have that type of moment especially when the payoff to it is Ben dies almost immediately after. And it wasn't even like he was breathing his last breath and like 75% dead type thing, he seems wounded but kind of mostly fine, then they kiss, then dies. It's just weirdly executed

God that death scene was bad, but him dissapearing at the end with his clothes being left behind did get a good chuckle out of me honestly. I do remember there being some awkward sexual tension between them in TLJ, but they could have handled that dynamic so much better IMO. The Rey/Kylo scenes were some of my favorite moments in TLJ, but that aspect hasn't been properly developed at all in these movies which is a shame, because it could have been really interesting had they took their time to actually explore it in another movie before this one, so that it would at least come off feeling more natural and not forced fan fiction like it feels here.

To be fair, much of this movie feels like forced fan fiction LOL

That kiss was the highlight of this new trilogy
In my two viewings, both audience reactions were exactly the same. Audible gasps, people making faces and murmuring various "wtf" type comments.

Because it's weird man.

I really don't understand why they did it.
From just the weird dynamic, the small bit of an age/maturity difference, to them not having any romantic chemistry. It's just bizarre

I know some people say: they catered to much to fans. The Kylo/Rey thing is an example of that

Terrio was quite literally checking off lists of things fans were talking about online. Its nothing deep. He thought it would be a fan pleaser.

Even though they had kind of teased Kylo being redeemed in the 2 movies before this i was still hoping he would just die and not be redeemed. The reason is not just because of what he had done but also because we already had Vader in ROTJ redeemed and so i was thinking just have him stay bad has it would be different and not ever one that is like on the dark side needs to come back to the light. How ever the way he came back in the movie i thought was great and just works. Easily my favorite character in the trilogy. I think it works for 2 main reasons. 1. After he gets stabe by Rey and she ends up healing him i think that effected him and help to push him back to the light in that it showed compasion towards him that she didnt just either leave him there to die or heck just finish him off right there. I think him seeing compasion like that from some one towards him helped and i think it also showed him that you can still turn back after doing something bad 2. With him getting memorys of his dad i think that was just a good way to show his consitues was still at work and when you combined those two things it just works. I hope i explained that well but yeah just good stuff with him turning back to the light.

I do still hate the Kylo Rey kiss though them having any sort of romance or anything just dont fell right. Rey should be with Fin if any thing. Fin is the one who asked Rey like right when they meet if she had a BF. He was clearly interested. Fin was the one who went back for her in TFA and who after being like nocked on the ground showed concer for her over him self and you can cleary see in TFA that fin showing that concer towards her really meant a lot for Rey

Like more of a think you for what you did then a i like you kind of thing? I would hope so but i dont known either way it should have not happend its Liea coming back to the ship TLJ level bad.

I think JJ is full of it here. I know, obviously, he made the movie. But it makes no sense whatsoever that that's what he would say when he thought he'd die

Yeah it dosnt a i love you makes a lot more sense has i think you would be more worried you didnt let the person known your true fellings for them when you had a chance and even the way poe like reacts is like he thinks Fin is going to say that to Rey and like he is kind of jealous that Fin is so into Rey.

Wasn't there originally a leak saying that Ben revived Rey by kissing her? I'm thinking if that's true then the kiss in the final movie is just a reshoot due to disturbing implications one might take to him kissing her without consent.

I am also 99% sure that the whole Threepio getting his memory restored was also a last minute addition, hence why he literally has no bearing on the plot afterwards.

Curious, do you guys thinks that there's any possibility that a competent filmmaker/producer could somehow undo the damages that were done to the original trilogy in future installments?

I still can't get over on how TLJ and TROS pretty much made both Anakin's sacrifice and Luke's legacy both useless and obsolete in the grand scheme of things.

What's done is done. Lucasfilm isn't just going to ignore/cancel the sequels, just like they will never ignore/cancel the prequels.

I've already accepted it and moved on.

And look, I love the EU and everything, but too much time had passed to create stories like that. Everyone was too old. The only other option would've been to recast the legacy characters, and I don't think anyone would've wanted that for the sequels.

Now do I still want some post Sequel Trilogy continuation that simply follows Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors? Yes. But I'd say it's highly unlikely at this point.

Well I wasn't thinking so much of ignoring/canceling as opposed to course correcting (once more) in some future installment. Hell, I'd gladly take a semi-recton and introduce a new Skywalker (that Luke may have had with someone unknowingly off-screen) that could restore his/her family's legacy/honor in the galaxy. Or just have someone say or do something that states that Anakin's and Luke's actions were not for nothing and that Rey isn't the be all/end all character that Disney is trying to force her to be.

I'd like to know who's going to be in charge of the galaxy now, because they've got the same power vacuum as before.

I'm guessing that this time they'll just let the planets all form their own governments but they'd need some sort of arrangement for trade, etc. Maybe a Star Trek-like Galactic Federation?

And I'd just like to say that I really liked that Hux became a Resistance spy just so he could see Kylo Ren lose. It's a completely small, petty movie and 100% Hux because he hates Kylo so, so much. Too bad he got gunned down shortly thereafter because Star Wars doesn't have many purely selfish, delightfully petty SOBs.

I quite liked the kiss between Rey and Kylo. I feel they've been building up to it since TLJ and the whole ying/yang relationship they have. They're inexplicably drawn together and share a bond that's on an intimacy level above that of romance.

I thought the kiss was driven by the intensity of what had just happened and also Rey's relief/joy that Ren had joined the light side (she definitely instigated the kiss)

I don't think Palpatine creating life in a womb to make Sheev Jr works. If that's the case, wouldn't Anakin be his child also? And how does it work in such a way that this is a blood descendant if the midichlorians do it?

Judging by everyone's age, we're made to think that prune Palpatine had a family or copulated in some other way with some woman out there in the galaxy far, far, and not far enough away.

I don't understand why they didn't just add a few more generations between Rey and Palpatine. Just make it so she's a descendant of a family Palpatine had when he was much much younger, and establish that he hunted down and killed all of his other descendants except for Rey. Same theme, just without the disturbing mental images.

The idea that there trying to create families now of different sith and jedi is just weird. Felt very harry potterish with the different school groups. Im still pissed off they never explained how the emperor is back from the dead, thats a pretty big thing to simply ignore

At my screening a couple of people said what!! at the Rey reveal

How many numbers were on the check to Harrison Ford to get him to come back for this?

Palpatine could reach out across the galaxy to mess with Kylos mind for years but couldn't track down his granddaughter?

How many people knew Rey was Palps Granddaughter? Is that why Han gave her the side eye a few times?

So as a Force Ghost you can manipulate things physically so why haven't they assisted when the Rebellion and Jedi needed help? Because people and Jedi have to stand on their own?

So a Jedi or Sith can reach out across the universe and physically take something from someone but can't grab the person and still can't figure out where the person is?

So what do we take from this ? A person born to be a Sith becomes a Jedi
A person longing to be a Sith turns back to the light ....so happy ending right?

I don't see why or how Han would know Rey was a Palpatine. He doesn't know anything about Rey.
