Infinity War Fortunately, I Am Mighty - The Thor Thread! - Part 1

I agree, or atleast the helmet from his gladiator battle with Hulk in Ragnarok (which I prefer to the classic version).

The MCU HATES Thor wearing a helmet for some reason, I always found that odd. It's not like a mask that hides the actors face, all of their facial features are still visible with a helmet.

Agreed. I don't understand it. Quite different if it was a mask.

I'm waiting for the blu-ray to come out so we can have a hi-res scene of Thor, Rocket & Groot arriving at Wakanda. Preferably with the Immigration Song in the back.

I'm impressed (and so happy) with the appraisal Thor is having with Ragnarok and, specially, with Infinity War. The God of Thunder really became a superstar!
As that HR article has said: He has boundless potential!

Yes more Thor in A4 please, I enjoyed his scenes immensely in IW especially his Wakanda and starting up the star scenes.

Truly the MVP of this film. Bless Taika and Hemsworth for revitalizing the character and keeping that going in IW. He's so multi-faceted. Whereas Stark gets kind of one note (sans Civil War), Hemsworth really gets to stretch his acting muscles here.

Kevin Feige: "... to really give these spectacular performances and this gentleman in particular coming off of Ragnarok and what people are about to see in Infinity War is... is frankly astounding... super impressive."

True story. :yay:

Thor is an example of what can happen when a director is interested in you versus when they really aren't.

Whedon doesn't care much for Thor, and it shows, IMO. The Russos showed more care for Thor in interviews than Whedon did in two actual films.

Also, Thor fell into the same trap that characters like Batman and Black Panther have fallen into, where the director is interested in the villain at the heroes expense. This isn't the case with Taika and Thor: Ragnarok. He knew how to make Thor look impressive as the hero of the film, even with scenes where Thor was the butt of a joke.

I think that Taika definitely succeeded in making Thor the most interesting and enjoyable character in the movie. Quite a few other characters had standout moments (Valkyrie, Hela, Hulk, Loki), but Thor had the chance to show a lot of personality, and it felt like he was driving the story.

Ragnarok was also a great vehicle for Hemsworth, specifically. He was able to develop a more nuanced character than in previous films and probably play a version of the character that he liked a lot more.

The only thing about Ragnarok was that it leaned pretty strongly toward parody at times. That's not necessarily bad, but it's a big part of what stands out about that movie: basically blowing up the earlier Thor movies, laughing at them pretty often, and relying heavily on a lot of irony and eye-winking.

Thor in Infinity War retained the nuance and personality from Ragnarok, but the portrayal felt a lot more direct also. Really to me it felt like the best incarnations of Thor from the comics for the first time in any of these movies.

He was likeable and fun, but his role also had that epic scale and grandeur.

I like the first film but am glad that he has more interesting supporting characters now than a bunch of human clowns and doesn't spend as much time on Earth.

No time on Earth, please. Use the other right realms.

I loved Ragnarok and it’s my favorite MCU movie. I’m a big fan of Thor and I truly appreciated what Taika Waititi did with the character and that movie. He reenergized and revitalized the Thor franchise/character in the MCU.

Thor was funny, charismatic, endearing, cool, powerful... in Ragnarok. He wasn’t a “joke”, he was just funnier and more fun to be around with, which for me personally was great... Taika Waititi deserves plenty of credit to where Thor is now in Infinity War and how his popularity has increased exponentially. Ragnarok was a solid stepping stone in the right direction for the character.

In IW we see a deeper and more thoughtful look at the character and his development throughout his MCU history. It’s a fantasy payoff to a character that finally reached his full potential.

By the way It’s not regular electricity. It’s alien tech made specifically to subdue any powerful gladiators including Hulk, Beta Ray Bill, Ares... Use your imagination. It’s just a way of keeping the hero subdued.

I sure hope Taika comes back for Thor 4.

Ragnarok is the best Thor film by far, even with the cringe-worthy jokes.

Very true, I was a bit taken back at first (weeks ago) but now I'm okay with whatever decision Marvel makes regarding Carol's powers.

Lmao I "lol'ed" so hard, you are right though.

But it just seems more impressive when a character does it through sheer durability instead of energy absorbtion powers. Like Superman flying through the sun wouldn't really be that impressive, since it's you know...the source of his powers.

Glad you've reached acceptance BigThor. As a Spidey fan Tony giving Peter his suit angered me to no end, but eventually I got over it. Or I'm still in denial, who knows?

Indeed! One part of the impressiveness of what Waititi did in Ragnarok was that handling of Loki- he added to the dynamic and Thor's story without taking over and outshining. It was definitely a Thor movie this time and that's why it was so awesome.

Now: make more!

eta: and more Valkyrie, and, like, more...I mean, Thor needs some crew.

Supposedly Thor still has some of his crew. Valkyrie, Korg and Miek.
Tessa Thompson aka Valkyrie apparently filmed stuff and since she hasn't showed up in IW then she will likely turn up in A4.

Where she (and interesting others) were seen filming is not exactly a positive sign. Unless it is positive for a change for the better. gah. a whole year...

Let's ban Thor from Earth unless he's interacting with other Avengers. No talking or hanging around with silly puny humans who aren't affiliated with the team. :yay:

I'd be okay if Thor were on Earth again. Particularly given his interactions with Banner in Ragnarok, I think the same great dynamic could be replicated again with the other Avengers. With Taika's template of making Thor more mature, confident and jovial, I think we'll be able to see him bounce off well with just about anyone.

Agreed, post Ragnarok and IW MCU Thor is more developed than ever and could work well with many characters.

I think he’s too overpowered now to stay on Earth. There would be no threats that would be a challenge for him unless they nerfed him again.

Well, his biggest weakness is he can't be in two places at the same time.

I'm not saying that earth should be avoided at all costs, but I don't think that there's much point in doing another Thor movie with earth as the focus.

Marvel has other characters for that. Thor needs something bigger, wilder and more zany to really work.

That's one big reason why the first two movies felt very cramped and limited. Like they were trying to make the character something that he is not.

I don't think that they will do that again. It made sense at the time, but now they can afford to be more ambitious. The whole reason to do another Thor movie would be for him to encounter the Celestials, or whatever.
