I'd say Sony failed more for me.

Fox and Sony are close. Fox has continued to prove that they can't do a superhero film well if Bryan Singer isn't involved.

Luckily, he's been involved in 4 of their films. So overall, I'd say they have it over Sony. Sony's had 3 solid Spiderman movies...and that's it.

Now, if we're taking Fox's other crimes into account, like ruining Alien and Predator, or canceling Firefly....that's a whole new ballgame.

To be honest, I didn't really care about AVP, those movies never looked good so I wasn't dissapointed by them. They had already messed up both franchises majorly before they attempted AVP. Alien Resurrection was so bad parts of it were funny (you're a beautiful beautiful butterfly) and Predator 2, while I enjoy it for its pure 80s cheese, is a clear step down from its predecessor. I mean, c'mon, the first Predator took out an elite special forces team. This one can't kill a cop.

But yeah, either way, they messed them both up.

If we are playing that game:

Sony

Spider-Man: 4/5
Spider-Man 2: 5/5
Spider-Man 3: 2.5/5
The Amazing Spider-Man: 2/5
The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 2/5
Ghost Rider: 0/5
Ghost Rider 2: 1/5
Total: 16.5/30

Fox
X-Men: 3/5
X-Men 2: 3.5/5
X-Men 3: 2/5
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: 1/5
The Wolverine: 3/5
X-Men: First Class: 4.5/5
X-Men: Days of Future Past: 4.5/5
Daredevil: 2.5/5
Elektra: 1/5
Fantastic Four: 2/5
Fantastic Four 2: 2/5
Fantastic Four Again: 2/5
Total: 31/60

Marvel Studios
Iron Man: 4/5
The Incredible Hulk: 2.5/5
Iron Man 2: 2/5
Thor: 3/5
Captain America: 2.5/5
The Avengers: 4.5/5
Iron Man 3: 3/5
Thor 2: 2/5
Captain America 2: 4/5
Guardians of the Galaxy: 4.5/5
Avengers 2: 2.5/5
Ant-Man: 2.5/5
Grand Total: 36/60

So, yes, Marvel is the most consistent. But I did not give out as many 5s to them either. For me at least, it is a give and take.

Funny thing is that Sony is clearly the worst when viewed in terms of quantity, but Spider-Man 2 is still my favorite movie of all the ones I listed. Funny how that works out.

You would really put Daredevil above Thor 2, IM 2, and on the same level as AoU and Ant-man? Hell I'd put X3 and both Story FF movies over that turd.

But I did not give out as many 5s to them either.

It looks like you only gave out one 5, period. To Spider-Man 2. Unless, I'm not seeing something. I do notice that you gave at least a 4 to four MCU films, while Sony & Fox combined only have four films you gave a 4 or more to.

And I agree that Spider-Man 2 is the best movie on the list. Actually, of my top five comic book movies it is the only one that is Marvel-based film. The other four are all DC films.

Well, this is the hardest poll if you had to choose ONE. It took Fox 7 tries to make a great X-Men movie. However, what they did to the Spider-Man character by rebooting him into brooding skater just was a disgrace. Its tough......The FF franchise failed at every attempt. They are all just so terrible...

Got to tell ya, I dont know. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was one of the absolute worst superhero movies of all time.

Heh, you are right. I almost gave a 5 to First Class and Avengers but changed it. And I do agree that while I am a Marvel fan, most of my top 10 CBM are DC films. Then again when three are made by Christopher Nolan that already gives it a big leg up.

It is rating for different things. Daredevil (the director's cut) is not very good...but it kind of is a B-movie. Iron Man 2 and Thor 2 are trying to be more earnest big studio A-pictures, and were thus more disappointing.

If I made an actual ranking, IM2 would be above DD (not sure about Thor 2) and Ant-Man definitely would be too. But on a 1-5 scale, I cannot really help but think IM2 and Thor 2 are far more disappointing and squandered potential than DD was. It is weird and kind of reveals a flaw of the rating system that can sometimes be arbitrary.

It's a toughy, but I'd have to say Fox, for the seemingly outright disdain they have for elements of their properties and the mishandling of what really could have been Marvel's top grossing property in the X-men. Like Infinity said up above, any Fox-Marvel movie without Singer attached has been mediocre at best. All the rest of the time, it seems like they could care less whether the movies are any good or not and just try to eek out a modest profit.

Sony, while they've failed as often as they've hit, it seems like they're at least trying their damndest to make decent Spidey films.

Fox without Singer or Vaughn: crap

Sony without Raimi : crap

Sony is worse,2 great Spider-Man movies vs 4 great X-Men movies. Though F4 looks much worse than ASM2.

SM1 8
SM2 9
SM3 6
GR 4
SOV 2
ASM 7
ASM2 5

X1 7
X2 9
X3 6.5
XMO 4
FC 8.5
TW 6.5
DOFP 9
DD 4
Elektra 2
FF 5
RotSS 5

well, for my money, Fox has only had one great X-film, 3 good-to-ok, 2 poor, and one abysmal... add in the F4 and you have the recipe for a delightful s**t salad

I've always been interested in this. Hype and disappointment vs actual quality are fascinating (especially on the hype) when it comes to superhero films.

Over the nearly 10 years I've been on here, I've seen people viciously rip into movies that, while not good, were clearly not as bad as some people made them out to be. You had people claiming X3 and SM3 were some of the worst movies ever made. Not just Superhero movies, movies in general, which is a gross exaggeration. Now, they're not good, but both those movies aren't even as bad as some of the worst superhero films out there, let alone worst films.

But both of those films had MASSIVE hype. Especially SM3. To this day, the only film I've seen that has outdone SM3 in hype was TDK. So when the films came out lackluster, people went crazy.

I try to separate my comic fan from film fan when I watch a movie...but it's not always easy. For example, I really, really did not like Spider-man 2 when it came out. Because as a Spider-man film, I thought (and still think) it failed some of my favorite characters in terms of how they were portrayed. MJ was horrible, Doc Ock has never been a good man at heart controlled by evil tentacles, and Spider-man was never given a personality.

But as a film, I've come to recognize that it is indeed a very well crafted piece of cinema. The effects still hold up, it has solid writing, and the action is great.

But to me, it's still one of my most disappointing moments in a theater, because I had very high hopes for that film, and it failed to meet all of them.

I think the X-movies are well made movies. Heck, I don't think X3 is as bad as most claim, but I understand you, you don't have to think about the comics too much to enjoy them. And Yes the x-boards hate everyone who doesn't think their movies are Oscar-quality art. An unpleasant place.

That's why you really have to read (or watch) the reviews to see how a critic really feels. One 3/5 isn't necessarily the same as another.
