Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns Animated - Part 1

****ing awesome. Just crazy good.

F***ING AWESOME! very well done adaption. loved Emerson's take on the Joker as it was creepy, psychotic, and funny. the action/fight scenes were excellently done. and once again, the soundtrack was oh so good! has such an 80s influence. would be nice to hear the soundtrack in full.

Just superb!! Couldn't have asked for a better adaptation!!

Bring on "The Killing Joke" or/and "The Long Halloween" next!

I think this definitely opens up The Killing Joke for an adaption and I hope if they do adapt The Long Halloween that they release it in two parts.

Yeah... as far as Batman goes, we definitely need:

- The Killing Joke
- The Long Halloween (2 Parts)
- Gotham by Gaslight

I LOVED part 2!!! was soo good! I cant believe the level of violence they showed with Joker, the love tunnel scene, the talkshow scene, and the knife with batman, just craziness. I really liked the way they colored the tunnel of love scene, the visuals really had a surreal effect

I say Long Halloween but Killing Joke doesn't need an adaption if you were to ask me, I don't like that story.

Yeah, Emerson was great. To me, he was somewhat reminiscent of Ledger's more "normal" Joker voice, without the random high or low pitches Heath used at times. He was also more unsettling than I anticipated, but I loved it!

Aside from the story itself obviously portraying that final showdown very graphically, it just feels different to see it in motion. Perhaps because it's in cartoon form as well, but seeing the Joker gun those people down without care, stabbing Batman relentlessly & finally the look in his eyes when he gives that final chuckle and ends it, it's all completely unnerving. As it should be :cwink:

I'd be so happy to get The Long Halloween. My favorite Batman story.

agreed, long halloween movie with tim sale style animation would make my life

Whilst we're on Tim Sale I'd love the next Superman solo to be based on one of these:

Superman: Kryptonite

Superman For All Seasons

Yes! For All Seasons please! PLEASE.

I really think that'd be quite easy to adapt aswell, even though its quite episodic I think it could still be a really good story to tell.

Tbh though I'd prefer Kryptonite to be adapted more, that bit where Superman's stopping the volcano a d the Lava swallows him up is fantastic. Just imagine the moment he comes flying out if the volcano animated, it'd rock.

I'm hoping (for Batman adaptations) we get them in this order:

The Long Halloween, Part 1

The Long Halloween, Part 2

The Black Mirror (may need to be 2 parts as well)

Knightfall

Knightquest

Knightsend

Heart of Hush

No Knightfall please... That story belongs in the 90's and has been mined enough in various Batman media.

And I think they'd go with Hush before Heart of Hush if they were to make a movie. I know the latter is the better story but still.

Knightfall for Batman was just a poorly done Death and Return of Superman

Fair enough on Hush but in terms of Knightfall I somewhat agree and somewhat disagree. The first volume is well done (with some misses in there) and the following two are mostly meh but very good in other areas. However, Under The Red Hood wasn't a great comic either (at least in my opinion). And if they can vastly improve UTRH as they did, why not Knightfall?

I loved the Death and Return of Superman, but I thought the adaptation they did was lame as hell. You don't trim a huge story like that into a 70 minute movie. Just can't be done.

could have been so much better. would have worked better as a trilogy.

Ideally, it would've been a pretty fantastic season-long arc on Justice League Unlimited. Start off with a 2-3 parter of the fight with Doomsday, a few episodes in the middle modeled after "The World Without a Superman", with the League covering Metropolis and taking on his workload and dealing with their loss, and then work their way to the finish of the season by introducing Superboy, The Eradicator and Cyborg Superman (Steel was already a part of things, so his role would just be given more spotlight) and then finally Superman's return.

Best Buy is selling Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - Part 2 with a Joker figurine.

Pretty accurate to the Joker in Dark Knight Returns.
