Title:Madrox: Multiple Choice
Written/Art:Peter David and Pablo Raimondi
Publisher Marvel Comics

Summary:So who is Jamie Madrox? Ask him that question, he’ll have a hard time answering it. Peter David (Hulk, Captain Marvel) brings back fan favorite Jamie Madrox as he once he again tackles Multiple Man in this mini from 2005. Once a member of the government mutant team X-factor a few years have passed and Madrox is back doing what he does best….well does pretty good by starting his own investigation company. Also back, are Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane and Guido Carosella aka Strong Guy as they help Jamie get things started. Everything is interrupted however when one of Jamie’s “dupes” turns up dead and with the recovered memories Jamie sets off to the Windy city Chicago to find out who tried to kill him and why.

What you get in this mini is classic Peter David fun. Humor, action, mystery all rolled up into one nice package. Pablo Raimondi helps sets the mood with beautiful pencils that really compliment the noir motif recurring in this mini. Definitely worth the look if not only to see a very interesting take on Jamie’s dupes as each has his own personality including a Shaolin monk. Madrox: Multiple Choice is definitely one book to add to your collection. If you enjoy this book, you might also be interested in the ongoing series X-Factor, a somewhat spin-off of this mini also written by Peter David and its first arc is also available in trade paperback.

Format: Trade Paperback which includes all 5 issues of the mini.

Title: Promethea (The Series)
Writer/Artist: Alan Moore/J.H. Williams III inked by Mick Gray
Publisher: America's Best
Summary

First of all, I just wanna say, that I read this entire series, twice now, and I still don't fully understand all that went on. And yet, it still blew my mind. Much like most of Alan Moore's works. Promethea is about the power of story. The doorway of the imagination, to adventures that are only limited to the amount of acid you may have dropped before you started reading it. We follow the adventures of Sophie Bangs, the latest incarnation of a being born of imagination, Promethea. We follow her throughout her journey of discovery. Of her powers, her, coming of age, and of her destiny. We learn of the Immateria. A realm of reality where all stories are in fact, real. That, the "reality" that we live in, is but a small portion of something much larger.

Moore explores concepts like Magic, the universe, faith. All through the eyes of a young woman, suddenly given great power. Not quite a Superhero, buy more of a physical manifestation of creation. I don't know. It kinda boggles the mind here. The book is very heavy on the metaphysical, and therefore, not for everyone. But if you like a deep thought provoking story about the nature of magic and the universe, then this book is for you. And not only that, there's the incredible art from J.H. Williams. I mean, it's amazing, as you can probably see from the accompanying pics. Plus the book has it's fair share of action as well. Like when Sophie and four past Prometheas square off against a hoard of Demons in a hospital, or hell, anytime the Painted Doll shows up, that guy rules. It's a book of many talents.

Format: There are five "Books" which collects the entire series in both Paperback and Hardcover.

Title:Gotham Central
Writer/Art:Greg Rucka/Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark
Publisher:DC Comics

Summary: In Gotham, Batman rules the night and criminals everywhere fear the bat. Batman gets the front page headlines but the Gotham City Police Department are the heroes in this book. Written by Greg Rucka (Queen and Country) and Ed Brubaker(Sleeper/Captain America) Gotham Central depicts the lives of Gotham’s finest as detectives of the Major Crimes Unit deal with the crimes dealt by the villains of Gotham City. Sometimes ending with chilling consequences....literally.

Gotham Central began as a pitch for a Jim Gordon solo title but evolved into one of the greatest series in the last 20 years. Most of the characters aren’t well known but by the end of the first issue you’ll grow to care about them as they struggle to keep up in the growing shadow of The Batman. Michael Lark’s art here is dark and moody and very noir. Perfectly depicting this crime drama. If youre a fan of Batman, crime stories and shows like NYPD Blue and Homicide this is one book you can’t miss.

Format:This ongoing series was recently cancelled at 40 issues but is slowly being collected into trades. So far there are 3 trades all avialble at Amazon.com or your local comic book store.

Stormbreaker: The Saga Of Beta Ray Bill
Michael Avon Oeming / Andrea DiVito
Marvel

Summary: Created by the same creative team as Avengers Disassembled: The Might Thor, this book can serve as an immediate follow up to that story, or as a solo story unto itself. The last survivor of the fall of Asgard stands alone in his first self-titled tale, picking up directly after the events of 'The Avengers Disassembled: The Mighty Thor'. Bill wrestles with the concept of Asgard's fall, but cannot focus on it for long, however, as he returns home only to find them waged in a battle beyond their means. Their oppressor... noneother than Galactus himself. Here we meet his newest Herald by the name of Stardust (whom has become a major player in the Annihilation event currently running), and he is just the first foe whom Bill must face. Where this story goes is an amazing journey of strength, loyalty, and loss, stretching Bill to the very reaches of his soul. This is the first cosmic story that I've trully read and I enjoyed it so much that it led me to picking up Annihilation as well. The writing is wonderful and the art is truly amazing. Oh, and there's a guest appearance by a certain wallcrawling aracknid, just the sprinkles on top of the sunday. Buy it, and thank me later.

Genre: Cosmic Superhero Fantasy
Format: This story is only available in trade paperback format.

But Oliver Queen is back as the Green Arrow in the 15 issue run by famous Hollywood director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats) and Oliver Queen doesn’t remember dying. What comes next is a great tale of a man coming to terms with his own mortality as he searches for answers of what exactly happened to him and re-adjusting to a world that had moved on without him. In Quiver and Sounds of Violence Kevin Smith does a bang up job reintroducing Oliver Queen to the DC Universe and what we get is one of the greatest Green Arrow stories written. Title:Marvel Zombies
Written/Art:Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips
Publisher:Marvel Comics

Summary: What happens when you mix a George Romero movie with Marvel characters? Well of course you get Marvel Zombies. This 5 issue mini written by Robert Kirkman (Invincible/Marvel Team-Up) explores a Marvel universe run rampant with zombified versions of Marvel characters. What you get is some of the funniest, gross and scary images you could ever read. Its like watching Night of the Living Dead on crack.

Sean Phillips(Sleeper) provides the art in this book and really sets the tone with his very dark and frightening art. Sean provides some of the most vomit-inducing scenes ever seen, in other words great art. This book really is some great stuff and will be an excellent addition to any horror comic fan and would go excellently next to those trades of The Walking Dead on that book shelf. Also, you probably might want to check out the Ultimate Fantastic Four "Crossover" in which Marvel Zombies was spun out of.

Captain America wears an American flag as a costume and he’ll kick your ass. Ed Brubaker starts what has become a great run on everybody’s favorite Star Spangled hero as in his first arc a blast from the past comes back to haunt Captain America. Title:Alias
Written/Art:Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos w/David Mack
Publisher:Marvel Comics

Summary: You ever wonder how it feels to be a superhero? Jessica Jones knows first hand what its like and she’ll tell you one thing, she hates it. Alias written by Brian Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man/New Avengers) stars Jessica Jones, a washed up ex-superhero turned private investigator. Jessica sets off in the Marvel universe to investigate some pretty weird cases while battling her own inner demons and Carol Danvers romantic set-ups. With a rolodex filled with superheroes including Captain America, Ant-Man Scott Lang and Luke Cage among others Jessica tries to adjust to a life of normalcy.

Michael Gaydos does the art chores here and does a great job depicting the street level grittiness of Jessica’s life. Also, you can’t miss David Mack’s beautifully painted covers and his work in issue #10, one of the top 20 single issues, ever. If you liked some of Bendis other work like Powers, you’ll definitely enjoy this book. Alias is really a diamond in the rough and you’ll really be missing out if you don’t at least give this a read through. If you read Alias, and enjoy it you might want to check out The Pulse also by Bendis.

Format:Lasting 28 issues, the series was relaunched with the title The Pulse with a much lighter tone. Alias is now collected in trade Paperback and a hardcover omni-bus collecting all 28 issues plus extras! Really the best deal you’ll get on this series.

Alias Omnibus (Max Comics) (Hardcover)
