Superman Returns FULL Ottman Score!

^^ when you listen to the whole thing, it's obvious that with the picture it's going to have a moving impact.

However, it sorta sounds like they borrowed from the Spider-man theme, and at other times it reminds me of the original Batman theme, both by Elfman.

LOL yea batman theme..

From 10:08 to 10:18 it definately sounds like the Batman theme.

Yeah, bits and peices, here and there, taken from both themes!

Can anyone get this as a downloadable file?? I will buy the soundtrack without a doubt, but would love to be able to listen to this until then ...

listening to it now. I am still in the beginging of it, but it just sounds generic. And a lot does sound as if Elfman had scored this. but, and dont flame me as it is just my opinion, it is not as good and powerful as Williams score.

exactly what I thought

I'll tell you I don't like the end from 55:00 - 55:04 it just ends abruptly. There is this HUGE build up and you get all excited and then boom, it's done! :(

I guess in that sense I prefer the Williams theme:

Listen to the very last 30 seconds...they hold a note for 2 measures, and then it ends. I've listened to William's Superman theme SO much that it's hard to accept then newer ending.

It's too hard to compare this to the whole William's theme. You have two different themes in two different movies, separated by almost 30 years, and it's sorta taken out of context without the movie.

diddo, new stuff meh, old stuff good (it's good, but as above, the build up doesn't deliver the payoff one expects and wants)

Im not the biggest superman fan so this theme to me sounds no different to the original one and i doubt the general movie going audience like myself wont notice a difference either.

I still love this theme though, its so powerful and iconic :D

it's trying to be really important and big using a chorus, which has been really overused. I mean sometimes, like in most of Williams stuff, or in Polodorous (SP?) Conan the Barbarian, and Lord of the Ring, it works, and some cases it is like "Oh look. they are using a chorus" It worked well in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. But here it seems like it is being overused. And I am sorry, a lot of the new stuff just sound generic. Like "I have heard this a million times before in other scores" Whereas William's doesn't, except for sounding like Williams. There is a reason that Williams is considered the top master of soundtracks, and has been for sometime. It just sounds like other stuff that has been done before and it doesn't stand out on it's own. I mean, if you listen to Jaws and Jaws 2, or Raiders and temple of doom, or Star Wars and Empire, they have continuing themes but they stand on their own. This just sounds like a lot of other soundtracks and it just sounds generic.

I guess it is the difference of Batman 89 versus Batman and Robin.

Listening more. god he is really overusing the chorus.

I love it!

Listening to the scores atm and can't help but imagine what I read from the SR novel.

Can't wait to see this film!

Exciting, beautiful and powerful :)

Looking forward to this film.

Thanks Bryan Singer for being the one to make this happen (the right way) - You rock!

Definitely digging the dark (most likely Lex's) parts...

One thing I noticed--listen at about the 10 minute mark, and then listen to the main theme of the Burton Planet of the Apes, is it just me or do they sound a little similar?

i still don't understand why WB would let ottmon on, i mean it's JOHN WILLIAMS. i'm sure he would've done it, with WB's budget

i don't mind the update theme, but when it comes to the big JW, there are 0 substitutes. it's like generic cereal in place of the real deal, it might taste the same at first, but there's that little "extra oomph" missing

of course we all know, everything is better with dramatic music or a chorus

i got a Matrix feel when the chorus came on... you really dont need a chorus with Superman.

Actually, Singer asked Williams to do it -- and Williams declined. In an interview, he said he couldn't do it because Routh resembled Chris Reeve too much -- which I take means it felt like he was treading on sacred ground and he didn't want to touch that. I think Ottoman has done a great job here -- it's majestic.

Someone said that they read somewhere where Singer went to Williams, but he said that Routh looked too much like Reeve and he didn't want to do it. I would have hounded Williams until he relented like Katzenberg did to get Nimoy back as Spock in Star Trek The Motion Picture. I mean he got on his hand and knees pleading for Nimoy to return, and I believe it was the only reason Nimoy did it. Singer needed to do the same.

Damn, there is chorus on almost every damn song on this thing. Really, really way overused. William's used a chorus only sparingly and he came up with an iconic score that didn't have to resort to the chorus trick to sound important.
