Superman Returns FULL Ottman Score!

It's for the soundtrack--if you're really hardcore about it, I guess you could cut in the main titles again right at that point and let em play out.

hell, I might just do that right now ;)

I'll start with the good: it's great to have the Williams theme back!

Everything else is sub-par. It's typical film score music we've heard in tons of other movies, usually done better. Can't Ottman just break out of his shell to give us something DIFFERENT and FRESH?

There's no musical consistency. He goes all over the place.

That said, I'm buying the CD when it comes out anyway, just to have the Williams theme in CD quality! I was never able to find a copy of STM's score so this will have to do, will be great to have a high-quality recording!

I'm listening to the whole thing now. It sounds very alieny like I'm watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Directed by Steve Spielberg)

i dunno if this can go in here, but the theme that we hear towards the end of the international trailer, it starts right after lex yells wrong..i always thought it was going to be part of the main theme..was it made just for the trailer?? I felt it was truly powerful and kept listening to it over and over..the score is great overall i feel, but that int. trailer theme was fanastic to me..does ne1 know if there is a name for it at all??

Sorry, who is superman, but I was not involved in the making, producing, or directing of the album...so I have no idea what name it was given.

There seems to be many, many members here so maybe someone has some connections.

Just set your recording source to "Wave/Mp3" and record away! Since it's recording off the soundcard output, make sure no other sounds are played while recording (computer "dings" or anything coming out your speakers), or you'll record those sounds too! Happy recording! :)

well i learned something new today :D

thanks dude

Fatboy Roberts:

Ottman does break new ground in his own writing, again almost channelling Elliot Goldenthal, Jerry Goldsmith and Michael Giacchino at varying times in this soundtrack, and yet somehow swirling all that up with John Williams flavor of bombast. Sometimes the choir isn't used all that creatively, but that seems to be by design, not by failure of ambition. Just use the voices as punctuation, not as key component of the melody. Most times it works, but yes, some cues sound more like noodling, incidental music rather than a key part of the storytelling. I don't see much overuse, he spares it for the most part.

I think it DOES stand out, Ottman's "Personal Theme for Superman" especially, which almost overtakes the Love Theme in terms of quiet grandiosity. But it doesn't quite scale all the heights Williams' does. even with 55 minutes only, the pieces Ottman chose seem to meander just a LITTLE too much, sometimes making the album feel longer than it is.

But when Ottman decides to stomp on it, he does. The ostinato has never sounded as full and URGENT as it does a couple times in this film, the build to the main theme never as pressing and energetic. It works well when it wants to rouse you.

Very eloquently put sir.

Here, Wushuboy, I re-edited the end credits for you so you get probably a CLOSE approximation. I wish I had like an extra 30 seconds to pad out the Main Title march a little, but hey, this is quick fast.

hopefully there's an isolated score track on the DVD

This is interesting I asked Dew yesterday if I can make a Thread with a download link to the Score in mp3 but she said no. Now look at this

This is exactly the reason why I hate Ottman and Danny Elfman as composers, it's just the same sh:t day in and day out. :o :down

It's typical film score music we've heard in tons of other movies,

Could you qualify the statement, though? I mean--what does "typical film score music" even mean, really.

I'm not trying to crap on you, I just want to see that statement fleshed out a little.

emphasis mine....

i think that's why dude. its illegal to DL this or post any links to it. SHH will get into bad doo doo when TPTB finds out. (and they are WATCHING!)

Typical film score music:
- may use a choir to emphasize emotion
- makes the orchestra perform sweeping to falsify a sound of being "epic"
- relies on the strings to evoke an emotional response (usually one of "love")
- sounds like a standard orchestral production and gives the most melodic parts to the violins
- doesn't add another dimension to the film while watching it
- when heard apart from the film, sounds incomplete, and does not take you on a musical journey of its own (it has to rely on the film's visuals)
- sounds boring

Is it just me or is there a slight f^ck-up in the tempo in the Main Titles around 1:50. Sounds as if the orchestra slowed down a bit...???

^^ dude i fear for you. if you dont want to get in trouble you really should take the link out.

Dude, you're not getting it.

Streaming is fine because Rhino records has approved it and it's not a downloadable format, meaning you're not gonna lose money.

you posting a link to the entire album in downloadable format via sendspace is not approved by Rhino and is probably going to annoy some people. there are differences. edit your post, dont' wait for a mod to do it for you.

I'm SO loving you at the moment...you will be missed! :(

Fatboy,

Thanks for sticking up for the Williams' score for the Prequel Trilogy. Granted, not the Original Trilogy but still much better than given credit for.
