FX's The Americans

I think that was the most Henry were ever got.

I like how it's almost established that Elizabeth checking up on Henry is odd because she rarely talks to him. :funny: I felt bad for her in that phone call - I think she genuinely thinks she might not make it and so she wanted to at least have a conversation with her son.

I'm still so suspicious of Renee. I feel like in the last few scenes of the series, we'll see her meet with her handler as a reveal that she's been a spy all along but none of the characters will ever figure it out.

Agreed, nobody in this series just show's up for no reason, I'm willing to bet she will play a large part in why the ''illegals program'' wasn't uncovered until 2010

I'd kinda prefer she not be KGB somehow, but yeah, seems more than likely that's where this is going.

Yeah she's shady as hell.

Is it weird that I'm Team Elizabeth in this little marital tiff? Like, Philip seems to have chosen to live in this self-delusional bubble (while his wife lives in the reality they've built for themselves), and I'm happy to see it burst.

Henry is going to become a psychiatrist and join the FBI.

Man, last week had some killer moments. Elizabeth's words cut so deep. I audibly gasped as I heard it. (The drama in this show is so...emotionally real that I sometimes want to skip over it. I don't want to hear the mean things parents may say to each other in private etc.)

The endgame of the show is now clear - one last ride for the Jennings and one last gambit for Stan and Aderholt. I want to avert my eyes but also I can't...I have to see how this trainwreck will end.

I thought this was quite an interesting theory

In the pilot episode Stan is shown suspecting the Jennings’ car as being involved in the kidnapping of their turned-former-Soviet agent (the captain who raped Elizabeth). He is shown sneaking into their garage and inspecting the car, which Philip sees while watching from the shadows just in case.

In S6E6 Stan is asked to rejoin the team hunting KGB spies again, starting with going through a massive stack of cars & license plates that could match descriptions they have of vehicles involved in KGB activity.

Yes, the Jennings are careful and switch out plates, but how amazing would it be if their downfall is actually shown in the pilot episode? What incredible storytelling.

I love this theory. I don't think Stan will ever catch them though - the Jennings will escape just in time (though I don't think everyone will make it out alive. This show is far too cynical and dark for that)

I'm also surprised by the amount of F-bombs this season has had. FX can say it all they want, but I was marginally surprised.

Fantastic episode last week, they doing a hell of a job building up the final 3 episodes.

The past two episodes have made me tremendously anxious. The show does a masterful job of letting us see everyone piece everything together, eliminating escape paths one by one. We feel the inevitability of it all.

The events of Harvest were simply brutal. I don't think there's a better show out there that does their action bits like The Americans. It's realistic yeah, but the intensity of it all is what it makes so harrowing.

One of my favorite developments of this season definitely is Elizabeth's relationship with Erica. Perhaps the best since the Mary Kay lady. Keri Russell's acting is stunning here. You can see the various levels working here. You see Elizabeth acting as the caretaker, but when she draws, Erica forces Elizabeth out of her disguise almost. Art is soul bearing and it's something Elizabeth cannot simply fake.

The more I watch, the more I feel the show’s ending is going to be pretty lowkey.

I remember watching season 1 years ago. So much praise and yet I never continued. I'm gonna have to spend a week during summer bingeing it all.

Congrats to Keri Russell for bouncing back after Felicity and Mission Impossible 3

Yeah, I'm not expecting anything explosive. This show has always been subtle and isn't interested in writing that is shaped around trying to make you go, "OH MY GOD!" in every other episode. It's a low key, slow burn drama that's punctuated by thriller moments. It just does its thing and is perfect at doing it.

But this season is shaping up to be incredible as usual. It might be my favorite, which is hard because it's like picking your favorite child.

Yep. We’re so close to the end and yet it doesn’t feel like it’s heading towards an explosive ending like plenty of other serialized shows probably would have.

I love that about this show, it was the same with Breaking Bad.

Both, for shows about freakin' spies and drug barons, are really light on the action-scene stuff, it's few and far between. But when something does go down, it has actual impact in terms of the visceral believable way it all goes down, and how there are always stakes, always. Glorifies neither side, shows how awful it all is.

Personal I think if Stan figures out that they are Russian spies he'll just let them go because he will understand not all of them are bad.

Aw man, I didn't even realize next week was the finale already. I'm not prepared. :(

That was some real ''Tom Cruise running'' by Philip last night.

I can’t imagine a HEA happening but I still can’t help but want them all to make it out alive. :waa:

The MVP of this show is consistently Keri Russel's veins in her face. No one can make them bulge like her.

There's something incredibly poignant and tragic about the series finale of this show being titled "START". I get chills just thinking about it.

Not Pastor Tim but a holy man ends up being their downfall.

The intense level was on par with the season 1 finale where they almost caught them and Stan shot Elizabeth.

In the preview it looks like the gig is officially up and they're running.... without Henry?

And think Stan let's them go. Can't wait.
