G.I Joe-The Rise of Cobra
What a mess this movie was, really Stephen Sommers what happened to you? Sure, Deep Rising was terrible, but The Mummy was such a fun and original action movie. I even loved Van Helsing!

IMO this is the most backwards opinion i've ever heard.........:wow:

Hey, Van Helsing was fun. The CGI was good for it's time, the acting was good and over the top for a reason, I could see and understand the fights, and I loved the overall silly mood that made me enjoy "The Mummy" the first time I saw that. Also I just love seeing Universal monsters running around. .Sure that movie was a joke to everyone, but I can't understand why?

Gi:joe was just another produced mess. A cliche of Hollywoods most popular "it" trends.

Deep Rising was Sommer's best...and Van Helsing was the most vile piece of **** ever made. I felt dumber while watching it.

This.

Deep Rising was made as a modern big monster B movie and it rocked, was fun as hell. One of my buddies who hates horror films actually enjoyed the damn thing.

They could've made it just like the cartoon and comics, word for word, shot by shot, everything perfect, and you guys would STILL find something to complain about.

"WAAAAAH!!! His hair isn't the right type of blonde! GAAAHHH!!!! Snake Eyes isn't tall enough!"

You people are NEVER satisfied with ANYTHING. I don't see why people can't just frickin chill out and enjoy the goddamn movie. That's what I'm gonna do on monday. Go to the theater, buy my popcorn and drinks, and sit back and watch a great fun action movie. A live-action G.I. JOE movie. I don't see why you all can't do the same.

Actually, most complaints have been on the film itself, rather then the faithfullness. Sure it comes up, but I'm sure more people have problems with the acting, and story.

it gets a solid 7/10 from me

cobra commander was perfect

sienna miller = hot

Making all of the soldiers in both TRANSFORMERS movies American, certainly didn't hurt those 2 movies box office take internationally. Heck, the soldiers in the TRANSFORMERS movie seemed (at times) more like the G.I. JOE team from the comics then the JOE team does in the JOE movie.

there were some british soldiers mixed in there....as for the American/International element...it always seemed to me that GI Joe was under American command, regardless of its team makeup and they pretty much did what they felt was necessary anyway...there were members of GI Joe in the animated series and the comics that weren't members of the military anyway

I spent some time putting together my own custom review of the movie...I was so scared of this film at first, but after two viewings one thing is for sure...Sienna Miller was HOT!...she stole the show...but more importantly...the movie was a fun thrill ride and a much needed addition to this year's summer blockbusters that have sorely been lacking.

This is one of the first movie reviews I have ever written...please give it a read and tell me what you think!

Thanks... You can read it here.

Ok so to answer your question about baroness:

Basically Baroness doesn't know CC is her brother. I imagine if they make a sequel he will reveal himself to her and she will want to serve under his command. Then he'll slip in more nanobots and she'll be right back to being the Baroness we all know and love.

If she doesn't know then she is one dumb woman. Since Duke was calling CC out by name "Rex" when they caught up to him in the sub. Not to mention the fact she was conscious on the floor while Rex was yapping with Duke.

What they Need to do is either get rid of her, make her die, or make her a Joe (I don't care which one) and get CC to recruit someone new and give her the Baroness codename, and have this woman actually be "evil" and have an accent and all the good stuff that actually makes the Baroness the Baroness.

I think this movie needed another 40 minutes. It moved way too fast. We had very little time to get to know the characters...which was a shame. There was a great exchange in the script that really made the Duke character stand out....I'm going to paraphrase a bit...

Duke heres another soldier puking in the bathroom. He asks him why he's feeling sick.

Stalworth: The mission sir...

Duke: What about it? Another day, another run...

Stalworth: Never had anything to worry about before.

He takes out a pic of his wife, and newborn. Duke thinks about his past...

Duke: You're off the mission.

Stalworth doesnt argue.

Duke: If your heads with them, you're no good to me.

Duke steps forward, now a mean SOB.

Duke: One thing though; you step off this one, you're off special forces. Gonna find you a nice chair back on base. You'll be run of the mill. A regular.

Stalworth: I...I guess I can live with that.

Duke: Then you should.

Duke watches him go...and after he leaves, a slight smile creases his lips.

Thats what sold me on the script. Its not the best thing ever written, but it really shows me how Duke gives a **** about people. And how he wouldnt want anyone to make the same mistake he did.

And did anyone read the official novel of the movie and notice all the differences and things missing in the movie?

I make brief mention of that in my review here.

Most notably how the movie ended for Destro and Cobra Commander.

I think it's somewhat interesting that a lot of the things people were at first apprehensive about (e.g. JGL as the Commander, Sienna Miller as the Baroness, Wayans being in the movie, the Ripcord/Scarlett romance) rocked pretty hard (for Wayans, his love it:hate it ratio is at about 50:50 which is far better than what people were expecting). Even Tatum was less cringe-worthy than expected.

Guess what I'm saying here is that it looks to me that the moviemakers throw a wicked curveball. They really have a good eye. Anyone else agree?

I had never heard of Tatum prior to this, a friend of mine told he was in that dance movie, but I dont pay attention to films like that (why would I?)....he was ok, a little boring...but decent...he actually reminded me of someone i knew in the service who was actually a very boring, quiet guy when he wasn't working

He just lacked charisma for someone like Duke. Who since this is an origin movie, isn't really a leader yet. I suspect in the sequel it will happen.

I agree with this. I think it kinda depends on what you go into the movie looking for or wanting. If you're lookig for something on the level of The Dark Knight or Star Trek it's not the film for you. I went in knowing it was gonna be campy, over the top stunts, silly plotting , some bad acting etc and that stuff can be entertaing if they make it fun. I mean... it was a cartoon I use to watch as a child in the 80's and the film has Hasbro slapped across it. I'm not setting the bar that high in terms of plot and drama. Then again i'm someone who enjoys bad campy films as long as they're entertaining. I saw Van Helsing and that was so bad I was laughing my ass of during the whole film along with the rest of the audience. Certainly Destro's attempt at Scottish accent was laughable and along with the cheesy JGL. Overall It was a fun thrill ride for me anyway.

"turn my brain off"

This.

My problem was I purchased my ticket knowing to "Turn my brain off", but instead the director, writer, and the movie itself told me to turn it back on. By having these explanations about nanotech, Destro's family history, and the backstory of Baroness and Duke. Yet at other junctures turn it off; Ripcord=Night Raven flight (more to do with Arctic to Moscow to DC), What was the point of the opening scene? It had no relevance to how Destro ultimitely gained the metal face. Cause the metal mask was seen in the water among other things, Hawk in a wheelchair to him standing and jumping around ONE SCENE LATER!, etc.

They could've made it just like the cartoon and comics, word for word, shot by shot, everything perfect, and you guys would STILL find something to complain about.

I agree with Celtic.

My issues are about the story and the bland acting from a few people. The action I never said wasn't neat or exhilarating. It was. Hence why I rated it a 5 and not like a 2 or 1. The action was where it was at. The leading up to each action piece was lame.
The "Romance" of Scarlett and Ripcord seemed so damn forced. All the scenes leading up to the "kiss heard 'round the world" were Scarlett hanging onto Snake. Hell even after the "Kiss" She put her arm around him in the undersea lair. Typically in a movie there are subtle hints of a romance. Sure they did that here with Ripcord talking to her on a treadmill and after the first MAJOR battle (aka: 9 cobra agents in The Pit filled with over a 100k Highly trained, Alpha Dog Joe's, but somehow only 30 Joes show up to protect the warheads which were so important it was locked in Hawks secret vault. With noone guarding it but him.), and the final one was Paris where he catches her. It seemed forced. Three scenes do not a romance make. Now if in the sequel they are together I can believe it, but the way it is now people who read the script early calling this a romance were a bit foolish. So, maybe I'm more or less blaming that part on the early script reviewers.

For the rest see my first answer in this post to the "Turn your brain off." That's my issue with the movie.

Step Up was the movie. He was also in Step Up 2: The Streets for a cameo. He was also in Coach Carter (this was a good film BTW).

I went with a friend who wanted to see it, but I got a bit tipsy before we seen it, had him cover my ticket price, and he drove. Afterwords he made out that he liked it initially, but when we started talking about it on the way home, he started pointing out dumb **** too.

I hated how they put some sculpted face mask with huge lips on Snake-Eyes (they stood out so much it made me ****ing cringe) and made him a background character just like the lame cartoon did, made Baroness a good girl despite helping to kill hundreds (transition lenses? really?), and so much other crap like phoned in acting (Dennis Quaid totally phoned that in) and stupid casting (they should have gotten John Cena to play Duke, and the Wayans guy was a waste of screentime, flirting with Scarlet and not making out her character really had anything with Snake-eyes, where she should be the reason he wears a mask). At least Transformers had cool FX, this film had the most outdated looking FX I've seen in a big budget film in a long ****ing time. I was pretty much sober at the end, and that was the dumbest part of the film. I can't believe that
they just caught "Cobra" Commander and McCullen/Destro at the end like that. And Zartan was a male Mystique. Dumb.

If you have any reservations about it, don't waste your time. While it was not the worst film ever, I would say it's closer to Street Fighter: The Movie than anything else right now. People who liked this, it's your taste, but I remember people liking Street Fighter as well.

were people expecting a romance between Scarlett and Snake Eyes?? because IIRC, that was really something that was only in the comics and slightly hinted at in Resolute
