ill admit i know a little bit from gi joe but ill go in with an open mind

I thought it did okay at best. The Cobra threat wasn't very "threatening" and I felt that the characters should have been developed a bit more. The dialogue was a bit cheesy. But overall still a good flick to enjoy when you don't care about too much details.

the movie didn't do anything for me. it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't awesome either.
goods:
action sequences
locations of places
bads:
over-the-top cheesey
cgi in some scenes was poorly done
like i said, there wasn't much to it for me, it doesn't make it on my worst or best summer movies list
5/10

just saw it. i think i would have enjoyed it more if i was 12 yrs old. could write a good bit on why i did not like it, but i dont want to sit here that long. i would have to say alot had to do with the casting. oh well. 3/10

I just got in from seeing it and honestly, yea I thought it was better than Transformers ROTF and yea so far the best action film of the year. Now of course it wasnt exactly accurate when it came to source material and costumes and such blah blah blah same tired old complaints on here, but with all the continuous action sequences you dont really have time to notice. Now The Doctor's voice was GREAT and I was COMPLETELY happy at that being CC's voice BUT why did they have to make him sound EXACTLY like Dark Helmet from Spaceballs at the end when he put on his CC mask. overall 8/10 rating for me, especially if they do indeed make 2 other films in the series.

GI JOE... color me impressed and satisfied. When it was first announced, I laughed and when more info such as stills and teasers came out, I wanted this movie to bomb hard. But then aintitcool had me loosen up a bit so I decided to watch it today and I'm glad I did. I had a hell of a time watching it and now I can't wait for the sequel.

Joseph Gordon Levitt was balls amazing as Cobra Commander and I loved every moment he was on screen. Marlon Wayans wasn't as bad as I was expecting and the same goes for Channing Tatum. I hated him in Step Up and every other movie he was in but in this one he was a bit more tolerable.

I don't know about you guys but I thought Storm Shadow stole the show.
Byung Hun Lee did a fantastic job and he definately has to come back for the sequel as a good guy. While watching the movie I kept thinking how badass it would be if he were The Mandarin in Iron Man 3. I think he should also be in a Chris Nolan movie in the future... he just has that aura to him.

I hate how people lump everyone in one category if they seem to dislike something.

You people.

I seem to recall myself posting why I disliked it and I seem to recall myself saying it was due to acting and the story itself. Down the line I made mention of nerd/geek facts being wrong. But they did not initially make my opinion on the movie sour.

Its the acting being freaking bland as hell and the story trying to be serious/not serious at the same time, thereby negating the "go in with your brain turned off". If your going to go and explain something for 10 minutes, then 5 minutes later forget about it. Don't explain it then. It was a waste of time and the audiences intelligence.

I'll say this like how you all have been saying this.

If YOU people wanted a brainless action film, you got it. It did its job. Then don't complain about TF2, cause GI Joe and TF2 were the same.

Well , I didn't see TF2 so I can't judge it but I personally was able to turn my brain off and have a good time. I thought the acting was laughable at times and I was chuckling in my seat at the silly scenes, but again ,I wasn't going in expecting much. I went in knowing the acting and story would not be the best. Yeah, it's a bad film but I was still entertained and had fun watching it.

It wasn't a bad expirence for me, but I can understand those who were disappointed or hate it with a passion.

To each is own as far I'm concerned.

I wouldn't mind seeing him as a Bond villian.

I was a fan of the animated series and wasn't even aware there was a comic until after it had been canceled...I tend to be hearing from a lot of fans of the comic that "the comic is the only source material that matters" and that, IMO, is silly

It is silly since the higher percentage of people who grew up with GI Joe never got into the comics(most of us moved on from the cartoon after we grew up) and I highly doubt the original comics were all that super serious and mature.

The predominant forms of G.I Joe to the non casual viewer have been the toys and the 80's cartoon series.

While the comics being an integral part of the overall franchise the cartoon and the toys are by far more popular with the public.

Just saying.

I highly doubt the original comics were all that super serious and mature.

The baroness was almost burned to death, Snake-eyes face was mush but it was Scarlet and Snake, Cobra was constantly stabbing each other in the back, bullets made contact, explosions killed. Long standing Characters were killed, and there some decent action sequences when it happened. Characters like General Flagg, the guy the Aircraft Carrier is supposed to be named after, who blew himself up to save the Joes when Cobra invaded the Pitt. Dr. Venom being taken out by Kwinn, Major Bludd attempting to blow away Destro with a Hiss Tank turret, but baroness crashed it, and that is when she got flash fried.

Good stuff for a code comic from 1982 to the 1990's.

I just saw...G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra, a 2nd time, and it is awesome! G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra is clearly, the best film of 2009. YO JOE!

I agree, I voted 8/10. I personaly could see G.I Joe on the screen the whole movie. I liked most of the changes. I'm still up in the air on the whole Scarlett/Ripcord things and other than one little bit of CGI at the end I don't think there is really anything to complain about. I do have to kinda agree with one thing I read and thats I do think if this was exactly like the cartoon or the comics people are always gonna find something to complain about when it comes to adaptations.

I just can't see how his movie is getting a pass, after the bad acting, corny dialogue, terrible special effects, weird design choices, almost no respect for the source material, bad casting, poor music choices, and just being all around an almost insultingly stupid movie... It was hardly "non-stop action" like so many are claiming it to be, either, and, well "crazy insane fun"... I suppose that's just a matter of opinion.

I just don't get it.

This movie kinda sucked. The special effects were sloppy. It was nothing but cheese, but I did enjoy the Paris action sequence alot. Storm Shadow was cool as hell. Scarlett was sexy...and the Baroness, hot damn!

But in the end, this wasn't a good movie. :down

I went in expecting to walk out. Considering what had leaked online and the char photos...

But I loved it. The movie doesnt take itself seriously and neither should you. Its dumber than a bag full of ******ed sock monkies but it's FUN. Check your brain at the door and feel like a kid again!

I actually enjoyed Levitt as The Doctor/Cobra Commander - he was hammy, over the top and chewed apart every scene he was in but I had a grin on my face the whole time.

Who would have thought? Out of this summer the two franchises I'm most looking forward to seeing more of is Star Trek and GI Joe.

:up::up::up:

I LOVED Levitt as Cobra Commander. Best part.

well, i went and check it out as a matinee this afternoon to save money. I gotta be honest, i found myself grinning the whole time and really enjoyed it. I am by no means a GI Joe purist. I dont really know much other than the action figures i had growing up, but the original trailer really made me not want to see it. it just seemed to out there and cheesy, and i wont say that the movie truly wasnt, but for some reason i really enjoyed. i will be picking this up on blu ray and i hope they make a sequel. i give this movie a respectable 7 out of 10

I'M SPEECHLESS!.......but not in a good way.

Came back from seeing it and it's kind of like when watching The Mummy or The Mummy Returns, at first it's kind of cool but after you see them 3, 4, or 5 times you slowly realize how truly awful those movies are.

The same thing applies to the G.I.Joe ROC film, I don't care what the title says but this is not the G.I.Joe movie I would make, action after action I couldn't tell what the hell was happening in the beginning and the action scenes in Paris just didn't seem that exciting on the big screen after seeing those clips everywhere online.

The movie is just a generic action film that could easily have been an adaptation of garbage like Halo and Gears Of War but it got slapped with G.I.Joe in the title.

I didn't care much for the characters what with so many mindless things blowing up the only bits of character development what little there is was in the flashbacks, Snake Eyes dueling with Storm Shadow wasn't as climactic as it should've been with too many camera cuts.

Christopher Eccleston as Destro was ok but I don't know why every actor when doing a hammy Scottish accent have to sound like Sean Connery.

Marlon Wayans was just playing himself, he only served as comic relief and as an outsiders eyes to the Joe universe.

Channing Tatum has about as much emotional acting range as Steven Seagal.

Joseph Gordon Levitt as Cobra Commander didn't really impress me since his face is covered up 90% of the film that any other actor could've played CC and we don't know if Levitt used his own voice or have it dubbed in by someone else, it did have the nice raspiness too it which was cool.

Zartan, if he was touted as a master of disguise why go through all the process of the nanomite injections when a simple fake wig and rubber mask would've done the trick to impersonate the president? I suppose the writers didn't think that was realistic.....but having accelerator suits is.

Rachel Nichols and Sienna Miller both hot, sexy, beautiful and with nice racks!

Why did Paramount feel the need to put a Black Eye Pea song in the end credits, was it written for the movie? All I know is the group are fans since they mentioned it on VH-1's I Love The 80's.

In closing, is it a good movie? maybe but it's not a good G.I.Joe movie and it's definitely not the best action movie so far, I always knew that a good live action Joe could never be done right without compromising a lot of it's history.

Another review just posted here.

I agree with this guy for the most part, some of things he did like I didn't pay attention to. Like Canning's inability to lose his distant-but still-apparent ghetto accent. I think stuff like this is being a little to picky. And I don't think Cover Girl was wooden either, I mean she doesn't do that much in the movie.

Here's my impression of GI Joe.

Positives:

The intro was decent.

The first action sequence was quite good. I thought all of the actors did a pretty good job of acting until the last 30 minutes.

I loved Duke and Ripcord's training.

My favorite characters were The Doctor, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow.

Snake Eyes flash back scenes with Storm Shadow were good.

Duke's Flashback scene of him and Rex during combat was also good.

Negatives: The sountrack was bland and quite boring after the second action sequence. The Paris battle wasn't as good as I thought it would be as a result of the lackluster music.

I was disappointed with a lot of the CGI. I can't believe this film cost 175million to make. Stephen Sommers made the first and second mummy films with budgets under 100million. What was all the money spent on? Dennis Quaid was the only actor in the film that could demand a large salary.

Either the rumors about Sommers are true or he is completely delusional for saying that his crew did an amazing job with the CGI in an interview a month ago.

Storm Shadow dieing was pretty annoying and what happens with the Baroness at the end really ticks me off.

The last 30 minutes of the film were pretty bad. Over the top acting with a weak sountrack and lackluster action with the exception of SE and SH fighting. I thought the acting went from decent to horrible for basically all of the characters at the end.

The flashback scene of Rex and Dr. Mindbender was way too rushed.

Overall this movie really frustrates me because I enjoyed the beginning, many parts in the middle, but, the ending ruins the film for me. I have very little interest in seeing the movie again and I'm not looking forward to a sequel. If the film underperforms I hope it puts an end to the career of Lorenzo di Bonaventura in hollywood. Almost everything this hack produces turns to crap. The movie industry would be a better place with less people like he and Tom Rothman.

I don't feel quite the same way about Stephen Sommers because he has made enjoyable films in the past but, I have little confidence that he will ever make an entertaining movie again after Van Helsing and GI Joe.

Actually, most complaints have been on the film itself, rather then the faithfullness. Sure it comes up, but I'm sure more people have problems with the acting, and story.
Exactly I myself have already looked past the tacky costumes and focused on the movies itself, direction, storyline, editing, and it's not a good movie it's pretty awful in some spots I'm seriously worried that a sequel could be greenlit by the $56.2 million it's already made.
