I think she has a natural charisma about her that makes her to me personally a surprising, but ultimately appealing choice for Wondy.

Agreed. Although I don't think it's just determination and strength. Her eyes and her face have something heroic about it that also shows kindness and integrity, much like Christopher Reeve in the role of Superman. I definitely think she was the right person cast for the part.

Yes, she definitely has an innocent look. I don't think any of the other candidates or fan castings had that quality to such a degree. It gives off the impression that she hasn't lived in the modern western world but has been separated from it on an isolated island, and therefore hasn't been subjected or exposed to certain pain, suffering and evils that can take a toll on a person.
