I dont want to say I told you, but...

George R.R. Martin Admits ‘Game of Thrones' spoiled Shireen's death.

Season 5 took a particularly gruesome turn, as a bitter cold aided Melisandre in convincing Stannis to sacrifice his beloved daughter Shireen to the Lord of Light, an event that Martin claimed at the time wouldn’t necessarily reflect the character’s literary fate.

Now, however, Den of Geek took an extensive trip through the commentaries of HBO’s fifth season Blu-ray release, revealing:

Although it has yet to feature in A Song Of Ice And Fire, George R.R. Martin has confirmed that it was always his intention for Stannis and Melisandre to sacrifice Shireen to the God of Light.

And on an unrelated note...

Kit Harington Can’t Wait To Prove To Everyone He’s Dead

Kit is trying way too hard.

Lol I've actually heard the thing in question on the Blu Ray, and nowhere does GRRM actually say that at any point. It's basically Iain Glenn, Peter Dinklage and David Nutter talking about the scene asking each other "Isn't this going to the happen in the books?" "I don't know, I think so." And David Nutter himself basically saying he doesn't know one way or another but trusts that there's communication between GRRM and D&D.

Another big thing from the commentaries, was that apparently Dorne was never planned for the show originally even as they introduced Oberyn in season 4. The whole plot was a very last minute addition that they only added when Bryan Cogman figured out a way to include it with Jaime during the spare screen time they had for the season.

At worst it's another parallel between Melisandre and Stormbringer.

The link doesnt say Martin confirms it during the commentary. Just that Martin has confirmed it at some point. Im sure D&D know whether it happens and Nutter no doubt communicates with D&D. I thought back when it happened that it was likely from Martin and not D&D. D&D have done some radical things but the Shireen death had George written all over it. The circumstances might be different but Stannis and Mel are going to roast that kid out of either desperation or ambition.

As for Dorne, that explains why Dorne felt so tacked on. Makes me wonder if Myrcellas death was going to always happen or if they decided to kill her when they added Dorne to the season.

Then perhaps it's not clever to end a season on a cliffhanger.

Also, regardless of the size of the production, letting multiple episodes leak online in advance of airing is quite indicative of a problem.

It just seems a little careless to me. I mean there's one spoiler in particular floating around that I find absolutely amazing that it has been leaked. They need to either scare the crap out of their extras or hire more security.
This happened to GoT and Doctor Who. This could not be helped outside of not releasing screeners, which they have now stopped.

This explains a lot.

The actual link you posted, this news itself is about a month old and since that time bigger fans of ISOIAF than I have picked it and the Blu Rays apart and what I can tell you is that there is exactly two features dealing with Shireen's death: the commentary (where most of the info in that article comes from-producers/cast/crew comments in the commentary) and the old "Inside-The Episode" from last year where Dave and Dan say that they were shocked to learn that Shireen gets sacrificed. But at no point does anyone actually say that Stannis himself burns Shireen or gives the command. Stannis is 30 days travel from Shireen at this point, and that number is tripled when you factor in the current Winter conditions and the fact that he's bogged down and about to face the combined army of the Freys and Boltons. Melisandre on the other hand, is with Shireen at the Wall, and has just learned about the Pink Letter and has no way to verify whether Stannis is alive or not because R'hllor no longer grants her visions of him in her flames. It's far more likely that she sacrifices Shireen out of desperation to "resurrect Azor Ahai", and might be that it'll actually work and factor into Jon's return as there has been dream propechies that lean that way.

Yea right...

Roose once told me this series was only **** and dragons.

I don't think I'm Ian McShane, at least I wasn't last time I checked.

Are you saying it isn't?

Get a life.

This woulda been beautiful:

Scene - Winterfell -
Lord Manderly: The North Remembers, Lady Sansa. The North Remembers and the mummer's farce is almost over

Cut to Ramsay Wedding - Sansa is watching her friend, Jeyne under the guise of Arya, being given to Ramsay in matrimony.

Lort.

So I saw an interview with Emelia Clarke where she discussed the Drogo/Dany rape scene that occurred in the first episode. She basically said that if you have an issue with that scene, you should blame George RR Martin. Yeah, that would be a valid argument except that's NOT the way it happened in the book. In fact, it was quite the opposite; Drogo asks her several times if her answer is no and if I remember correctly, she takes his hand, places it on her crotch and says, "Yes." If I interpreted the scene in the book correctly, it implies that Drogo, unlike TE majority of his barbaric people, is NOT a rapist. I'm not sure why they changed this in the show; I personally think the way it played out in the book works better. Anyway, I'm no Emelia Clarke hater but I'm kinda shocked that she apparently never read the book.

I took it was "No" being the only word in whatever tongue he understood. I havent read it in some time though.

Eh, neither are great. Either it is rape or a writer trying to find a teen girl being sold by her brother into sex slavery as romantic scenario. I like the Dany story a lot from AGOT and Season 1 overall, but no matter how you slice it the Drogo marriage began very creepily, which is why I never felt as heartbroken as some when he got killed off nice and early.

He did manage a few phrases later in the book, so I don't know if he was completely ignorant of the common tongue.

First episode title is confirmed as "The Red Woman."

Synopsis: Jon Snow is dead. Danaerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter.

Jon Snow, are you alive?
