Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

Did anyone else think the dialogue was cringy af at some points? And the CGI when Jon mounted the Dragon was reaaally bad I mean c'mon.

Then again they probably will go all in on the Battle scenes so I can forgive some bad cgi this early on.

Bran keeps on being a creepy dude.

Looked and sounded great to me.

I think next week episode is the perfect opportunity to do so it doesn't have to be in English they could just mumble and I'll take sub titles lol

I'm honestly afraid that they'll leave all of Night King's reasoning for the prequel show. They could probably get by in this series with Bran warging back in time, and finding out what the NK wants. I hope they don't go that route though. It's been 8 seasons. It's time we hear from the NK in my opinion.

For TV series production quality is mind-blowing even in the worst cases.

Yep. For people complaining about the CGI, all I can do is :whatever:
Seriously. For a TV-budget, this is astounding. And yes, they have a very big budget per episode of TV...but let's just remember, reports said they spent around 15 million per ep this season. Sounds like a lot, sure. Let's not forget that Deadpool was praised for being a low-budget action flick at around 50 mil. Now, Deadpool's longer, sure, so let's slash that budget in half. They still get 25 mil per one hour, about 10 million more than GOT has for their allotted time.

When you then consider that they're doing a freaking PERIOD DRAMA and action piece with creatures that rely on heavy CGI to exist, and they're still doing it at a fraction of the cost they would have if this were a film, you realize how freakin' impressive their effects are.

And hell, even if you leave the money out of it and compare the CGI to films released even today, it's solid effects. Justice League had worse CGI than anything we saw in the episode last night.

So yeah, I think they're doing just fine.

The dialogue is not as sharp since they passed the books, but that's been the case since season 6. It's still solid though, it had a few real zingers--Sansa has my favorite when she said of Joff's wedding, "It had its moments"--and most of all it was emotionally gripping in any of the reunions involving Jon and/or Arya.

With that said, the dialogue with Euron is straight up bad. I don't get what they're trying to do with him.

I mean on the shows own standards some of the CGI looked pretty bad to me.

And come on. "You're ruined horses for me"?

Still, decent ep1. Just waiting for the real s*** to go down.

Limb graffiti and poor little Umber boy scream gave me the good ol' creeps.

I thought the CGI looked fine. By the show's standards, this was one of the biggest CGI sequences they've ever done, and it looked solid to me the whole time.

Some of the humor did surprise me, though I honestly think it's because, let's face it, I don't think there's going to be much room for laughs for the rest of the season. I feel like episode one was their "Get in any jokes you want! The rest of this **** is going to be grim."

Heck, even the end of the episode trended much darker, from the Sam stuff into the creepy kid. I do agree with you on that, it was some good suspense and horror stuff there.

Nothing wrong with that line IMO. It's something an average person would say. Oh... I just road a horse...."you've ruined motorcycles for me!" No problem with that. Very casual. Common expression.

The sooner Urine Greyjoy dies, the better. Such a stupid, worthless villain.

Two things that bugged me...

Lack of Ghost... the budgetary constraint excuse doesnt pass the smell test. Not for this season. This is HBO's big event this year. If D&D needed a bit more monet to include Ghost in episode 1 HBO would have given it to them.

Lack of proper ****s given about the NK flying on Dany's baby. Bran just casually drops that revalation, Dany looks very mildly shocked, then it cuts away to an awkward irritating discussion of Northern Lords whining. Then later Dany is all smiles and laughs. I expected more and I think it demanded more after 7 seasons of her acting like she birthed those dragons from her own womb.

Agreed with those. You’d expect Dany to be grieving more than if any human character had died/turned into a wight. And I wish the budget/will had been there to realise the direwolves perfectly like it has been for the dragons.

That was a quality scream. :funny:

Also I'm tired of all the jammering about the northern politics. I understand that the show is called Game of Thrones and that's what the show has been about but goddammit the constant s*** everyone gives Jon about bending the knee is tiresome. THE WORLD IS ENDING. TITLES DO NOT MATTER NOW.

Yeah that was weird. She seemed mildly perturbed. I would be losing my **** if one of my dragons was turned into a wight. That makes their job a hell of a lot harder.

Not much IQ up North. I thought seeing the dragons might help but maybe they need to see the wight army and Night king before they shut up lol.

No.1 the dragons are like her closest family.

No.2 as you say the chances of success have taken a big hit. Going from 3 dragons down to to the 2 smaller ones with the biggest one now a wight dragon ridden by the Night King capable of taking down the wall is a very different situation. And after all this time her new allies include people she has spent all her time building up to defeat. Not exactly the most trustworthy!

only scene I didn't like was the Hound reunion with Arya thought it was too frosty he smiled last season when Brianne told him she has become a great warrior didn't like that called her a ***** on his way out I mean his character would do that but I wanted it to be a little more admirable

what a cliffhanger but Bran is all about his 3eyed raven He has no emotion so that's why I think he wont seek revenge on Jaime that he will just say again "we have no time for this"

I thought they blew there load too early on Jon riding a dragon wish I was under war time that he did not for a booty call
True, I can’t see Bran seeing revenge on Jamie as relevant with everything going on. He can see the big picture more than anyone.

Bran is weird to me in the TV show. Like emotionless. In the books, he has more personality and seems sort of happier? More childlike? TV Bran creeps me out :funny:

Viserion is the wight dragon, he is one of the two smaller dragon.
Daenerys still ride Drogon, the big one.

TV Bran is more authentic. I don't know who would keep childlike personality after watching his sister getting sexually abused. I'm surprised he doesn't look even worse than he is in the show.

Ah right, I forgot they're much older in the TV show. Bran is 10 by the end of book 5.

Seriously. Like when Sansa brings up the question of how they are going to feed all of the armies. Like, seriously? We’ve seen armies traverse the entire countryside season after season and as far as I remember, this question has never been asked, but NOW when there is an unstoppable zombie army coming, you decide to bring this up? I think we could have lived with the ignorance of never knowing the answer to this question. I guarantee you that there wasn’t a single audience member who said to themselves at the beginning of this episode, “Yeah but what are the Unsullied going to eat up north?”

Oh yes, good point, thanks. I got a bit carried away there. :D
