Jack Black actually would have been a good Mario, though, IMO. He's got a flexible voice with a broad range and has that plucky, likable underdog persona down pat.

Can I just say how great those 80s Garfield tv specials were? I know people bag on the strip itself, but those specials are legit classics. Garfield Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and one of my all time favs 9 Lives for just how bizarre it is. The lab cat that turns into a dog was terrifying to me as a child.

Can I just say how great those 80s Garfield tv specials were? I know people bag on the strip itself, but those specials are legit classics. Garfield Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and one of my all time favs 9 Lives for just how bizarre it is. The lab cat that turns into a dog was terrifying to me as a child.

I swear I thought I dreamed Garfield's Nine Lives it was so strange with that lab cat sequence.

If they approached Pratt first without thinking of Jack Black then they ought to be ashamed of themselves. Black's character in Orange County alone was basically a human incarnation of Garfield.
