Sweet, I'm Wolvieboy. I'm gonna be on all week when that game comes out.

Also, my friends and I are joining this competition if you guys want in. Basically you can form a group of up to 40 and we have a month to cumulatively earn the highest gamerscore from achievements from Gears 3. The group with the highest score wins 5 thousand bucks, and then there are 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

I figure we've got nothing to lose and we'll all be playing the game anyway, so what the hey, could be free money :P

I'm up for that competition. Seems a funny thing to measure though as most of the Gears 3 achievements look quite easy & quick except Seriously 3.0 & maybe some of the onyx medal based ones. Wouldn't be surprised to see everyone going for it (who didn't take the whole month off) on nearly the same gamerscore by the end of the month.

I'm so stoked for this. I just can't decide if I want the bare-bones edition or the Limited Edition. I got the CE for Gears 2 but I like never use any of the stuff that came with it lol so I'm not sure I want to go that route again.

Has Epic said anything about bringing back that Boomer Special for Gears 2 Horde one last time ? Horde kinda sucks as having all of those Boomers at the beginning of Horde was ****ing awesome

That's the highest they've given something in a LONG time. I think Uncharted 2 was only 9.2.

That IGN review was the reviewers first game review. His only problem is occasional cheesiness in dialogue? I LOVED all the dialogue and story in the previous games, so I'll raise that to a perfect 10 :P

Yeah, Gears has never been about the story, I've always just seen it as a cheesy Arnold movie from the '80s.

I beg to differ on Gears not being about the story. The story in the 2nd gears game was phenomenal and at times very emotional. It sounds like from the Giantbomb quicklook and review that this story is amazing and is pretty heart felt too while keeping the bro moments with the group.

Eh the knocks on Gears' story is justified. It's quite poorly written and poorly thought out. It's not very deep, lacks multi dimensional characters etc. I still find it great for what it is though. Im not looking for a ME type narrative in my macho, testosterone fueled 3rd person shooter. I like the characters enough to care about their mission but overall I wouldn't say the stories are great

I'm with you.

People seem to either love the story or not give a rats arse. I totally bought into it, it's entirely a character driven story, which is my favourite type of narrative. Add to that the fact that Sera feels like such an interesting, fleshed out world, with its own sci-fi rules and structure, I think it's great. Gears always felt more fleshed out to me than Halo, I felt more personally engaged because of the characters.

I still think the scene with Dom and Maria in Gears 2 is one of the most hear wrenching scenes I've played through in a game, that first time I saw it, with my friend, we were both just gobsmacked.

Again, it's no Uncharted but since the genre itself in this case is supposed to be broad themes, like any blockbuster, I still find it very effective.

I personally thought the story/atmosphere/characters of Gears 1 were stronger than 2. Hopefully 3 has a better narrative than 2.

Well by all accounts in these reviews, even people who thought the story was kinda corny, it's still seemingly much deeper and more rich than the previous Gears games.
