Question: why do I get the sense that some people want the Star Wars franchise under Disney to crash and burn?

They were ready to engage in hyperbolic doomsaying once reports of reshoots surfaced. They jumped for joy at the less than stellar early reviews of RO as if they won the lottery.

Theres always going to be an uncanny valley effect when it comes to these certain depictions, especially in the instance of the character being someone so well known and long dead IRL, but I don't think the CGI itself was at fault.

Exactly. You KNOW the actor is
dead and what other one looks like now. There is just no avoiding this.

I read some people didn't realize Tarkin was CGI so if the movie fooled at least few, it means it did pretty good job with that

General Syndulla. You will never see her but you will hear her name

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas!

Thank you!

- re: the "I rebel" line being left out of the movie from a few pages back, I'm fine with that. I thought that was so corny.

Just got back from seeing this.

My God, I had tears of joy seeing Vader kick ass. It was just glorious.

As for the CG of 2 certain characters I thought they looked great. Seeing this again tomorrow night.

The last 7 minutes of this film is worth the price of admission alone.

Vader has two scenes.

The first is Director Krennic visiting him at his private facility, which seems to be inspired by Bast castle. He's the one in the Bacta tank we saw in the trailer. The hooded guy is just an old man who seems to be his butler. Krennic and him discuss the Death Star and Tarkin taking over the project. Krennic is obsessed with trying to make a name for himself in the Emperor's eyes and tries to press Vader to speak to Palpatine in his name. Vader isn't having any of this and basically tells Krennic to make sure that Erso didn't institute any intentional design flaws into the Death Star and even force chokes Krennic slightly when he oversteps his bounds asking about whether he is back in charge of the DS.

Vader's second scene almost steal the whole movie. After the battle of Skarrif the Rebel fleet has intercepted the Death Star plans as they are beamed from the surface to the Rebel flagship. As the fleet is escaping to Hyperspace Vader's Star Destroyer emerges and CLEANS HOUSE. Vader takes a ROTJ era shuttle over to the disabled flagship (and I can't emphasise enough here how awesome this is) completely and believebly in a non over the top prequel manner, DESTROYS a rebel platoon in the halls of the flagship with his lightsaber and force choke/push.

Jones for the most part sounds great. There's just one line delivery where his performance slightly slips and you can sort of infer his advanced age a teeny bit.

So does it
tie in to why he's "dirty" in ANH compared to his normal shiny armor?

Seeing this in 2 hours. So excited!

Everyone who is watching it too - enjoy!

God damn it, I can't see this until Saturday afternoon! The wait is killing me.

Sitting in a blizzard right now and still have 10 hours to go though they're gonna let us in in a few hours .

Stay safe! Don't risk your health for Star Wars as much as we all love it. :cwink:

On a positive note, I can at least say that freak weather winter has cleared my work schedule so that I can see the movie tonight at the first preview showing in my city. I was supposed to be out of town for a trial in a small town off Lake Huron, and a massive snow squall came down off the lake yesterday blanketing the area in 0.5 metres of snow overnight resulting in road closures all over the place.

The trial was postponed as a result late yesterday afternoon, so I hurried on Cineplex's website to see if there were tickets still available. Just so happened, they finally added 2d showings at my preferred theatre and with reserved seating to boot! The 7:20 preview was full except for a big empty row, dead centre, second row from the back (my favourite spot), so I grabbed all the tickets and spread them among my friends today.

tl;dr Mother Nature intervened last minute so I could see Rogue One tonight at the first showing, at my preferred theatre, in my preferred seats! Just need my wife to get me Coke in the Wookie Cup and I good to go. So Excited!!!

I really enjoyed the movie, but since the ending was so awesome it's apparent that if they had given more time to that character during the movie it would have been a significantly better movie in my view. I hope we do get a movie where they can give us a bit more of that, but it doesn't seem very likely to happen.

They did really make it feel like the tone fit with Episode IV though, despite the new technology. I loved the 70s hairstyles with sideburns and mustaches.

Those people are fighting for the losing side. In all likelihood, with the critical success of Rogue One, Disney will pump out FOUR successive Star Wars HITS:
TFA, R1, EP8, and Young Han Solo. The people who have been doubting Disney will be hiding in a gutter somewhere, licking their wounds, after that happens.

EP9, who knows, hopefully Rian Johnson can provide Colin Trevorrow with enough guidance that it will turn out to be a decent flick, but unlikely. Anway, fingers crossed on that one.

Yeah it has some horrible pacing issues. First twenty minutes or so are painstakingly boring whenever Ben Mendhelson's not on screen. It gets its feet and becomes pretty entertaining and then the last act is incredible.

I'd say it averages to like an 8/10.

I'm curious, is this an 8/10 where it's just good that it's good or an 8/10 where with time when the hype subsides it holds up great to more objective evaluation?

I'm seeing this at 5 tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.

Oh boy

Yikes, stay warm. All the theaters in my city require assigned seating, which is a godsend. No one has to queue up anymore.

T-4 hours till my 8 o'clock showing.

You would have to be an idiot to not realize that. Peter Crushing has been dead for 22 years.

A question about Vader's first scene.

If he's inside the bacta tank, do we actually see his bare body/face and what he looks like?

Just got back from seeing this

9/10

It builds up from the opening scene, gathering momentum all the way upto the most amazing starwars finale to date

Just came back from it.

The first 2 parts were a bit slow but my god...The last act was amazing!

And Vader was insane!

9/10

Tomorrow morning for a 9:30am matinee. I took a vacation day. 6th row center and ready to buckle up.
