Ghost Rider 2 In The Works

The huge budget cut isn't great news, Sony doesn't want to focus too much on this film. :csad: At least they're putting their attention (and money) towards MiB3 and the Spidey reboot.

the sequel to a terrible movie like GR was a bad idea, but cutting the budget is even worst. some of the sfx from the first weren't that good. So, we know what expecting from GR2... The old Roger Corman method seems to be still working

Eh, Roger Corman knew how to get a lot of good out of a small budget. I'm not sure Taylor and Neveldine will be as successful.

I was being optomistic about this movie, but now im at the point, Ahh **** it

When i saw the title on the main page I had NO idea they'd slash the budget by this much. Wow thats really not a great start now is it although I am looking forward to seeing what the crank boys do with this one

Yeah, I kinda agree. Even I was willing to give Ghost Rider another chance and this budget cut is a pretty brutal blow. It just felt like Sony DOES NOT CARE about the film and just wants to get over with it.

Yeah, a 50% budget cut is kind of drastic. Aside from the odd quirks Cage brought to the Johnny Blaze character (Jelly beans in a martini glass?!?! WTF?!?!), the biggest flaw in the film, for me anyway, was the decidedly lacking action. I wasn't looking for some long drawn out Dragon Ball Z battles, but those fights with each member of the Hidden were woefully anemic and short.

My concern on the effects side is that we still have a situation of using CGI to replace motion capture work on a live-action element, and it's still not perfected. It's still a matter of performers being limited to slow, rigid movements, and it just makes the whole thing seem more unnatural, 'cause the performer never looks comfortable.

i wonder if the movie will have the fast editing like crank & ghost rider

I'm incredibly disappointed in Sony's decision to not give a crap about how this movie turns out.

Every time I saw this thread get bumped, I just figured it was more rumors or fanciful thoughts on how to make a GR film that's actually worth a damn.

They're actually following through on a sequel. Yikes.

And with a $75 million budget. Get ready for some top-of-the-line ILM CGI and city shots so detailed they put Nolan to shame.
OK, that read like a joke... but I see it's not. Reportedly slashed from 130M.

Wow.

It's like they need another production to extend the rights or something. I don't know the specifics, but that might not be far from the truth. In the sparse amount of time I've spent looking up info on this, it's hard to find something that doesn't scream "train wreck".

Why won't Sony just let GR revert back to Disney/Marvel, instead of making a half-hearted attempt at a sequel? It makes no sense.

Maybe a smaller budget is a good thing...now they can focus on...you know...story

I agree. I really do not get studio determination to keep a death grip on rights they have no plans to really put to good use. They could at least make a deal to make Marvel Studios make the film while they distribute like companies like Paramount and Universal did but no. Fox and Sony are determined to have their films be in-house, regardless of how horrible it's going to turn out and how much money they throw out the window as they damage the properties they are fighting so hard to hold onto.

They can still make money off of the property, that's why.

The thing is though, X-Men and Spiderman are proven money makers so I can see why Fox and Sony want to keep hold of the rights for those properties, GR made a profit, but not a huge one, so I can understand them making a sequel at least, but why bother when its obvious they are putting so little effort into it?

Since they already wasted Blackheart, who would be the villain in this movie?

Whoever they make up. At this point, I doubt they care too much about comic canon.

Well, of course the main villain will be Mephisto/Devil (whatever the hell you want to call him) and his chosen superpowered henchman will be given powers and will rename himself
"Blackout"
(from a review given by OddBob).
However he will have the same powers as Blackheart did in the last movie...so expect a fight pretty much the same that was seen at the end of the 1st film (if of course they dont change anything in the script)

Right now the only thing Im looking forward to is the fact they are recognizing "Zarathos" which hopefully means they are making GR more of a villain as he was near the end of the original comic series.
Everything else sounds pretty crappy...

I've lost hope.I was hoping we'd get a decent movie but I fear this won't deliver. This movie is going to be completely overlooked anyways coming out the same year as the Spidey reboot,The Dark Knight Rises,Avengers and possibly Synder's Superman.

yup...ive also heard (just rumors mind you) that even Cage isnt thrilled about doing this but needs the money badly for his tax problems. its was noted that he was only doing this to "kill time". he took a huge pay cut from his normal fee so he must be pretty desperate.

i expect we will see the same quality level of cgi as in the last film only not as much, lots of bad acting (more than usual) and probably less screen time of Cage as Ghost Rider.
if this turns out just half way decent i will be incredibly surprised....
