Did you enjoy Vol. 2 at all?

If that was meant for me, I'd say 2 sides of the same coin. For the positive part, I loved the villains, I loved the story (except the origins) and I loved the character design. As for the things I hate about it, you know the rest. I'm not even trying to convince you, either- just stating why I didn't like some elements in it. It really depends on one's own personal taste, after all. Whether you're a purist, or a non-purist...does matter if you're gonna reach an agreement with someone.

Oh, and Doom: I'm NOT defending any of Marvel's actions. I'm just trying to find some sense into what they've come up with, so far. It's not too late to stitch together the entire series' convoluted plot. Maybe if this new comic sells really well they'd finally come to their senses and give us a proper "origin story"- on how exactly all of this came into place the way it did. Again, let's just pray for the best. That's all we fans can do at this time- pray :csad:....

Well it was actually meant for crazy_sock, but thanks anyway lol

Ya, a well-defined, thought-out origins story would be nice. Though Ghost Rider #-1 was pretty good.

WHA--? :wow: Oh, sorry bout that :o... Y'know, wouldn't it be great if they were actually to ULTIMIZE GR altogether? I'd say it's a fresh, new start if they wanna change his character that much, rather than keep weirding us out with all this plot-twists of theirs...:csad:

Ugh, I'd rather pass on that...I'm not big on Ultimate Marvel.

Oh well... yeah I guess you're right (I hate how they reimagined Deadpool :cmad:!) I say guys like us who've gotten used to 616 prefer it better. When you said Ghost Rider #1- you mean the new comic? Yeah, Johnny looking all rugged n' solemn (lamenting stuff) like that was pretty cool :yay: ...

New-ish...it's technically part of Vol. 2.

Ahh that! Oops. Sorry my bad. Yeah, I forgot that part where JB first meets Dixie was in issue 2. But what I really liked about issue 1 was the strong portrayal of JB's despair as he thought he'd never get out, again (screaming & howling in agony). I loved the show of "desperation" in it as one man tries his hardest to obtain freedom- apparently in vain.... apparently....

nope. plenty of you old folks round here. kidding of course, bout the old folks thing that is. but there are ppl of yer generation round here. whether they be fans of the 70s series or 90s series or both even.

I'm 31, by the way. Hopefully that doesn't make me the oldest guy in these boards...

GAH! I'VE SEEN THE LIGHT!

Uhhh...darn it. Alright, you convinced me Doom. I wanted to reevaluate my views on Dan after reading your defense on his behalf, so I just finished reviewing several issues of my copies of vol. 2- down to Dan's apparent "death"- & I gotta say- after contemplating about it for some time- I became more sympathetic with him, now :csad:. Maybe it was just because I was so pissed at the fact that they replaced Blaze (whom I've always admired as a kid) when I first bought the DK series that I started to hate Dan far TOO much- too unfairly. In the end, I confess that he did show good promise for a young man his age- troubled as he was. *Sigh* Oh well, at least they FINALLY wrapped things up later, anyway- with Ghost Rider: Finale (although I still note a few loose ends).

Soooo, overall yeah... I stand corrected- bout Danny's character. Thanks for the good replies, Doom :yay:; u too crazy_socks :cwink:! Guess you proved that even a grown man like me can still learn a thing or two from you young'uns. LOL:woot:

Took ya long enough :woot::cwink:

Don't get me wrong though! I still like Blaze better :yay:. But it's more on "personal" tastes cause we're about the same age. I relate better with characters my own age- grow more familiar with them, y'know :cwink:?

I've always wanted GR to talk more informal, with a little "HA! IN YER FACE! :cmad:" attitude. Someone more like Nolan North's delivery when he voiced him in the game, 'Marvel Ultimate Alliance'. For me he looks much cooler as a guy with dry wits, rather than as a repetitive babbler.

Ghost Rider's voice-over in M: UA SUCKED. He sounds like he has a sore throat; not exactly Ghost-ish.

No...Don't let them brainwash you.
You had it right before

Riding Ghost, when I said JB's stronger & had every right to hold back Zarathos- while Dan was weaker & so reliant on Kale, I stand by my views. However, now that I've had ample time to think about it, I understand why he had to be that way. I was a kid myself, once. Had my own share of nightmares & social insecurities- and they WEREN'T EVEN CLOSE to what this poor kid had to go through (he looked really miserable during the whole graveyard scene with Naomi- specially after learning the shocking truth that she was his mom, all along :csad:). So yeah, overall, Dan's a good kid. Cowardly-weakling he may be, but still good, nonetheless.....:cwink:

I see. Well, he still sounded cool to me :woot:! I liked it whenever he "taunts". There was one cool phrase he said I really enjoyed listening to: "Anyone else WANT SOOOOOME?!!" So full of attitude, he was :cwink:. His speech pattern was pretty interesting, too. There he was portrayed as calm, cynical, even straight-to-the-point whenever he talked to other characters. I don't know why but he seemed....different from his usual style with words from the comics...

The attitude was cool, I'll give you that. But the voice itself sounded terrible.

Yeah, Dan may be a good kid but I also agree with this quote of yours

Which is why I blame Marvel for creating him in the first place. If they were to re-introduce GR to comic industry, why didn't they just continue with Blaze?! He was already well-experienced by that time, and didn't have to look all weak or new. By crafting a new character they once again brought back the element of "NEWBIE" in it. You guys may not realize it as you were raised in his time- but in my case, I found myself having to relearn GR's character all over again- from scratch. What happened to the guy I've gotten used to since I was a kid? I had to put up with seeing him as a "rookie" yet again- and it's so frustrating :cmad:! Adding Dan and Kale's background- then relating it with Blaze's -didn't exactly help bring more light to the series, either. Rather, they just served to convolute things even further.

I wholeheartedly agree with that.
I think its funny how some complain that the movie and the new series is ripping off ketch era when the biggest rip off of them all was the ketch GR being almost exactly like Blazes in almost all details....however somehow THAT is not a ripoff
the way I see it the ketch GR OWES Blaze.

Their "idea" to create another different GR that happens to look exactly like the original (except for different cloth) with almost the exact same powers as original (the only real difference is that souls burnt by fire from original and from penance stare from copycat errr, I mean 2nd GR and added chain to 2nd) is what has bastardized this character. THE ONLY thing that would have saved it is if they would have let Mackie do what he wanted and have 2nd GR be Zarathos and the differences in 1 and 2 be attributed to the effect that different hosts had on the "inhabiting spirit, ie zarathos". That would have been brilliant caused no continuity problems and just been a damn good way to go, but instead we get noble kale. Speaking of which, someone earlier was trying to make the point that there are no continuity probems or confusion with GR2. In doing so briefly explained the noble kale stuff......while conspicuously leaving out any reference to the medallion. Lets not forget that is also thrown into the mix. Look I've read the marvel encyclopedia that explains it all in detail and yes it is an explanation...but it sucks. It sounds like mush very unbelievable BS. Blaze was cut and dry and made sense and to follow it up wish what Mackie said he had in mind would have fit in nicely. They can still do that actually....and I hope they do.
All this IMHO of course.
