Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

I hope the reboot doesn't happen, seriously.

It's just a ploy to cash in on this year's 30th anniversary of the original film.
That's it.

Sony doesn't care about the true fans.

If they did, they wouldn't reboot the original movie which is what they are planning on doing anyway.

**** you Sony. **** you.

Sorry. I had to get that out of my system.

The biggest issue is not the female cast, it's the complete disassociation with the first two films. It's Ghostbusters in name only.

If they are all female, then it should be called Ballbusters.

We don't really know that yet. We don't know anything. If they use ghost wrangling, traps, a containment unit, PKE and some meter to measure it, it's connected. Right now we only know that they aren't having the original characters and are using a female cast.

What would everyone's thoughts be if we were rebooting with a new Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, and Zeddemore team?

Didnt the director already say its a reboot ? Just because they might end up using the same stuff says they lack creativity & will hide behind something like "Using the same stuff is a nod for the fans" instead of being original. Its still a reboot as said by Sony & whats his faces name I believe

Mate, they've already said it will have nothing to do with the original series, it doesn't matter what nods they have, it's disassociation with the original universe means it's just using an established name.

I don't care anymore.

They won't top the original but that's why I can watch it anytime.

I can't believe this is even being spoken on a forum that pats Quentin Tarantino on the back for Django Unchained or Inglorious.

Pretty much. No matter what they do in a reboot they will be compared to every aspect of the original if they use the title. I don't see why they wouldn't want to pass the torch with at least Ray and Winston in the film to give it some credibility.

Depends on casting and who's at helm. Those characters are the franchise imo. It's never been a success without them.

Nothing wrong with adding new characters and lead Ghostbusters, but those 4 members should always be apart of that world.

Well, the director and writer have some good credentials, especially if they're doing the all-female reboot idea.

If they can just get Aykroyd and his nonsense out of the picture, we might actually get something watchable out of this.

Anything that imitates the original will come off like Blues Bros 2000.

This first one was lightening in a bottle. You can't imitate the classic without it blowing up in your face.

Better of going in a completely new direction.

I don't see why it would come off like Blues Bros 2000. The original Blues Brothers never came close to the success and world that Ghostbusters made with it's characters. Especially with kids and teens who had to discover Blues Brothers way later in life. Plus Blues Bros 2000 just wasn't good. If that movie was even close to being as good as the first it would have been awesome.

Has there ever been a franchise reboot that ditches it's main character names and has been known to have actually worked at all (or better) for the franchise?

Evil Dead is the only one I can come up with and even though it made money it didn't pan out too well for the franchsie. All everyone talked about was Ash coming back or crossing over. Now they are allegedly going back to Campbell as Ash on a TV show instead of a sequel for the reboot.

The Fly, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

All wildly different and successes.

But nothing recent.

Those remakes were all great but I wouldn't call them franchise reboots in the same sense (with the exception of Apes to an extent). And even with Apes they were already switching the cast. Plus those flicks existed before pop culture and merch went bat **** insane in the late 70s early 80s.

Does anyone want to see a TMNT world without Leo, Raph, Mikey or Donnatello? Everyone knows The Ghostbusters accordingly to their characters. The success was extremely dependent on not only the actors but the 4 character names with it's fan base/pop culture throughout 30 years. It was pretty much successful throughout besides Extreme Ghostbusters. That was really the only time they ditched most the crew.

If this was a full on Ghostbusters 3 being helmed by Miller and Lord with a cast featuring actors like Pratt, Emma Stone, Kristen Wigg, Anthony Mackie, Rose Byrne or Bill Hader. With Ray and Winston returning, people would be pretty stoked. There would not be a quarter of the complaints or worries. Likewise if it was a reboot but they recast Venkman and Stanz with some new characters. If they want the franchise to last for another 30 years recasts have to take place at some point. Even if only Ray passed the torch to this new crew Feig is in control of I think things would be more positve. They won't lose points for that, and he can still make his own modern version. Basically just anything to have a connection character wise other then these are people who hunt ghosts.

Not saying it can't work. I just don't see the point in axing everything out on what people like. This is killing the main characters who are the only Ghostbusters we know completely out of the picture. Usually studios market the main selling characters one way or another. It's actually the opposite of what you should do. The reboots of the 80s have not gone very well as it is and this is one of the biggest and recognizable of the time. People are gonna expect alot, which makes it easier to be let down. Why not give the fan base and audience just a bit of what they want? Which is really just respect for the characters that made everything about this franchise.

Yea the all female cast thing isn't an issue. It's the fact that the movie isn't canon with the first two films and none of the original cast are involved or referenced. If they were smart they would have at least ONE of the girls to be connected to the original team. They could say she was the daughter of Dan or Bill's, or Ernie, or Ramis characters and she built up a new team of Ghostbusters. That would be pretty sweet in my book.

The thing is that is exactly what all the media that came after did. Comics, cartoons and video games all were spunoff from the original film.

The movie will make money in the first week and then fade away

It will just be a hollow reboot devoid of all the things that made the original memorable

No, it really isn't, that's the sort of stuff that ANY ghost-hunting group could use. Doesn't have to be the Ghostbusters specifically.

There is absolutely nothing connecting this movie to Ghostbusters but the name. That's it. It would be so much easier to just drop that and create a brand new story without worrying about the impossible task of matching the success of the 1984 movie.

I wonder ,
Will they change the theme, too?
My guess is they will use some version of the same music.
But, we shall see.

The original cast is what made Ghostbusters. Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are legends in comedy.
A new cast and reboot will have to be fantastic to live up to the first film.

I don't have much hope. Tbh not interested that much.

Planet of the Apes has one of the most culturally remembered endings of all time. Even Burton tried to re-create it with the 2001 movie and failed. I'd say that makes it on par with the pop culture of the 70-80s.

If Rodenberry had followed that idea, we'd never have gotten TNG. It still was about a group of Federation explorers on a star vessel. New uniforms but still had tricorders, teleporters, and phasers. It didn't need Kirk or Spock kids showing up in the first episode. Fans could just believe whatever they wanted about what happened to the original crew.

It just updated the concepts and moved forward with a new crew.

That's what I think Feig is doing, except for being in a new world. The original crew kept on Ghostbusting in their world until they stopped or whatever we'd like to believe.

I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing Indiana Jones got old and had an out-of-wedlock son.:woot:

I never knew there was so many die hard GB fans on here. I was never attached to the original and welcome a new version, but I tried to get my niece to watch this the other day and she couldn't get into it. These new kids ain't going back and watching the great films. Shame.
