Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

Which is funny considering it was basically a carbon-copy of the first script lol

I like Plaza for this, mainly cause I've always wanted Kylie Griffin to show up in the movies and she could work. But I do NOT want McCarthy anywhere near this.

Don't get her appeal but then again I also don't like Chris Farley. They seem to have the same type of humor, the "obnoxious loud person that falls alot" Not my cup of tea

Chris Farley could give heart. Tommy Boy had a lot of it. I've never really gotten that from Melissa.

I haven't chimed in on any of the recent news since it's broken. My first thought when I heard Paul Feig was one of acceptance. Not my first choice, or second or third, but he might surprise me. I just knew I didn't want McCarthy anywhere near this. Then I heard about the all-female cast, and that kind of ended it for me. I have no problems with incorporating females onto the team, but this is not the right direction. The original team is all guys because that's who all blue collar, time card-punching workers were at the time (there are minimal exceptions), which is the basic premise of the franchise. That's changed to a small extent, but it's not like it's a complete, 180º turnaround. If this news turns out to false, or it changes, I'll keep interest. As of now, I'll need to be wowed come trailer time and I'll eat my helping of crow and get excited again.

Interesting how making a movie with men in the lead roles is normal but making a movie with women in the lead roles is a "gimmick." #its2014

No, remaking this movie, at all, is a "gimmick"
designed to make money off a complete lack of originality

That's how they get you, branding you a bigot. :o

I agree with Whiskey. Sometimes her schtick is overplayed, sure (I HATED Identity Thief with a fiery passion), but I think with the right people she's got good comedic timing and delivery, and she and Sandra Bullock had some golden comic chemistry in The Heat, imo.

I also agree that Aubrey Plaza would be fun in a movie like this, as would Emily Blunt. I could tolerate Mindy only in small doses, lol. What about Amy Poehler? After a certain scene in Zombieland, I kinda think it would be fun for Emma Stone, too.

I'll be honest, I was dead set against this sequel after Harold passed away, but the only way I'd approve is if it's a totally different series that's only vaguely associated with the originals. I must admit an all female version has me intrigued.

Plaza, Blunt and Stone are names I think have potential. McCarthy, Kaling and Poehler's individual brands of humor have never, ever worked for me.

A gimmick is a unique feature that makes something stand out from it's contemporaries. Purposefully deciding on an all-female team in an age where we don't see many films like that (particularly in this genre)... Makes it absolutely a gimmick.

He can rail all he wants about how it shouldn't be, but he shouldn't be upset about folks calling 'em like they see 'em.

The important thing for casting if it happens is that they stay away from certain people for the major roles.

Adam Sandler - no
Larry the Cable Guy - no
Kevin James - no
Melissa McCarthy - no
Tina Fey - no
Tina Fey's BFF Amy Poehler - no
sucky SNL alumni - no
everyone over the age of 40 - no
under the age of 40 like the original movie - yes

Way back (a year, maybe 2 years ago) they wanted to go younger and tried to sign Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. I'm not sure about Jonah's response, but Emma turned down the role.
This actually seems to be right in Emma's wheelhouse, but she is good friends with Bill Murray and I suspect that's probably a big reason why she passed on this.

I'd have to put some thought into casting an all, or primarily, female cast, but off the top of my head I do like Emily Blunt and Rose Byrne, especially if they let her use her accent.:woot:

God imagine if they cast him as Venkman Jr. The internet is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions!

I heard the news and just wow, I officially do not have any interest, at least I have my original two films.

To an extent I get where Feig is coming from. Making say James Bond female would be a gimmick.

However there is nothing intrinsically about the Ghostbusters team concept that says it should be an all male bunch anymore than there's something written in stone that STAR WARS must always have a caucasian lead(which similarly has been discarded by Abrams and co with the choice of John Boyega). I personally don't care for a GB 3 to be made but assuming this does go ahead making the team female quite frankly is a far fresher idea than practically everything else we've heard over the years about the project.

if a reboot were to be comprised of men, i would have bet the house on them casting a bunch of snl players. Samberg, Hader, Sudeikis, with someone like charlie day thrown in.:barf:

Well, I don't like the idea of a 3rd movie now... but if they HAVE to do it... it has to keep the tone and the look of the original films. Same costumes, same packs, not much CGI.
If they can honor the originals, I don't care if they're males, females or both.

Yeah, people shouldn't assume a reboot with all males would be any better either. Here comes Zac Efron and Michael B. Jordan as the Ghostbusters... well, at least they have penises. Makes some fanboys happy. Those men at Deadline.com would be happier.

As I've stated in the thread if this does officially go ahead I can see this, unfortunately, as the next newsworthy case of the narrowmindedness of a sub section of fanboys being exposed. The kind who don't like girls (unless they're hot) playing in their cultural toybox.

Well of course an all-male cast wouldn't by definition be any better. It should be the best 3, 4, 5, 6 (or however many) people are right for the roles/story, regardless of gender or nationality. IDK what caused the sudden decision to go all female fronted.

The lack of fresh ideas that have been put forward for GB 3 previously, Bill Murray's non participation and the untimely death of Harold Ramis plus studios now realising or remembering that female centred blockbusters make MONEY (unless your Kevin Feige) might be a combination.

Why female? To make it different than the previous movies and less redundant...at least visually. To attract a different audience. I think the IDW comics went with a mostly female team at some point recently. I haven't really kept up.

There is NO reason to make an all female team. Just do a continuation of the films with the torch being passed on to a group of BALANCED new team members.

There was no reason to make the team all male in the original either.

how bout this....
why make this movie at all?!
nothing happened to the originals, they still exist and they're still hysterical
I'm not usually one for "my childhood is ruined" hysterics, but this could kinda do it

I swear, if I ever, in my life, here some stupid little kid refer to the bridesmaids-guy-directed all female ghostbusters as the "original" or "real" one, or ask "oh, there was one made in the 80's?" I may literally disembowel said child...

sorry </angry ranting>
