Ghost busters is an idea, not 1 or 2 or 3 people.

Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Alfred, Gordon, Selina etc are still in the books universe.

The Ghostbusters are actually 4 people with a few additions much later. Unless you just flat out have never cared about Ghostbusters I don't understand at all how people do not get that the characters, creatures and mythology to this franchise have been important for keeping it around 30 years as any other.

At least with an Earth 2 version we get a clean break and a GB for a new generation. Emphasis 'new' generation...not ours.

Totally not the same thing as Michael Keaton.

Again, Batman is still in the friggen movies.

Lets reboot a franchise but ditch everything, leave no characters, mythology or creatures back. Makes total sense right? No. If you don't want to keep anything then name it something else. It aint that hard to connect it. Even recasting the roles makes more sense. The complete disregard for the actual character names (not just the actors) seriously amazes me.

These characters are just as important as any other franchise property. If you want new characters then find a way to add to the history not subtract from it.

I'm still waiting for a full synopsis and some pics before getting really worried/excited. We still don't know what kind of connections will be made. If it's a bunch of girls offing zombies with shot guns, color me pissed. That would not need to be called Ghostbusters.

I can understand the frustration with the idea, but the way the world is now it makes since to have government watchdogs. Even in the comics Peck had to take on a position to look after the GBs on behalf of New York. One cannot simply strap on a nuclear accelerator and fire lasers at ghosts willy nilly. Post 9/11 world and whatnot.

Batman existed in pop culture before movies were made of him. Everything is an adaptation of the comics. Ghostbusters was a movie first, written and starring actors that were very much their characters. Once you don't have that group of guys, its no longer Ghostbusters. The RGB was just a continuation of those guys' stories in a kid's cartoon.

All an female cast for the sake of an all female cast is just a gimmick and shouldn't be the basis for a Ghostbusters film at all. Same with whatever the hell Tatum wanted to do.

This is a weird argument to make on a superhero board.

Characters change within their given medium a lot. Alan Scott is the Green Lantern with a vulnerability to wood until he wasn't and a guy named Hal Jordan took over with a vulnerability to the color yellow.

So Hal isn't the Green Lantern? Updating the origin to the scientific 60s was a gimmick?

If this was a sequel and the GB have been around for while with multiple (or rival) headquarters that were run by some sort of higher ups because of all the heavy past occurrences that I could understand. Which would be another easy way to put Ray or Winston in a role.

True. Again, though, this is all speculation stemming from a pitch mentioned in an email from a third party. My hope is that the girls create the idea themselves and the government decides to regulate rather than them being hired by the government to use equipment they created. That would have a very unGB feel to it. We don't need four Winstons.

It sounds like the conflict comes from[BLACKOUT] them not wanting to announce that ghosts are real to the public thus putting down the Ghostbusters as an unsafe joke to the world. Regardless of them actually backing them. [/BLACKOUT]

Let's say Venkman has jumped ship again, Egon has passed on (and returned to experiment from the other side), Winston is actually running the business now and Ray is a Lucious Fox-type role as tech guy. Pass the torch, maybe get the remaining old guys to suit up a final time, and continue from there. Keeps continuity, the mythology, and opens up new possibilities. Hell, they got government contracts in the video game, comics, and even the cartoons so you could easily work the government agent angle.

Well you'd have to get around the whole Harold Ramis no longer being with us thing if you want to use Egon. It'd probably be best just to say that Egon died at some point between movies and then go from there.
