Ghostbusters 3 - Part 3

The only way I'd be okay with this remake/reboot is if they didn't disregard the franchise that built it in the first place. I would have been fine if it took place in a different city where these women had the same character descriptions as they do now and they became a GB franchise after a ghost problem had risen.

But that isn't a remake. That's a sequel. If it acknowledges the events of the previous films as having happened in the past, then it is definitionally a sequel and not a remake.

Fieg's issue is that if he would have done that, ghosts would have been well known and he wants it to be scary. Serial killers are well known, and they are still scary. He just wants to build it from the ground up and make it his own.

So what you're saying is that you are, in fact, against the concept of doing a remake.

And no, it would have been Batman. Except a woman dressed like a dragon. Because it's the same damn thing as what's happening now.

While it would be a little odd for a female version of the character to still call herself Batman, either way, like I said, I would be 100% behind a gender flipped Bruce Wayne.

I wouldn't, because if we got that Batwoman movie, I'd be irritated we didn't get Kate instead. :o

If anything good is to come from this maybe GB2 will finally get some serious respect and appreciation when this is out and earns the ire of both fans and general audiences. The first two are now closer than ever to me.

Unless the movie is good.

Why...WHY MUST YOU BE SO DIFFICULT?!

I don't see how I'm being difficult. You asked how I would feel if a series of changes were made to Batman. I picked the one change I would have no real problem with and said so. The other changes were fairly silly and highly unlikely, so I didn't bother commenting.

Anyway, I think the only big mistake that's been made so far is not hiring Tina Faye and Amy Pohler to write the movie, with Faye as director and both of them playing Ghostbusters.

The serial killer ghost thing is right out of the recent comics.

Yes. Yes please. I want this version, not another Paul Feige/Melissa McCarthy movie.

I don't know, Captain America comics and stories have in the past made a habit of taking a more ambivalent look at American exceptionalism and notions of an American golden age.
Later stories, yeah, but not his origin story, imo. At least, not any version of it I've read.

Significant, but I think it would only add, not detract.
And I'm not necessarily disagreeing, but it's still a significant change nonetheless. Which was my original point: You change the race of Steve Rogers, you significantly change the base approach to the character and his backstory. That's not the case with most characters.

Well, "Red White and Black" certainly coated his origin story with a thick layer of cynicism.

Yes, it's a change, but I genuinely believe that it wouldn't change any necessary or functional elements of the basic approach to the character, it would simply add a new element on top. But I think we've worn out this conversation. Let's call it a night.

Anyway, you know what character it really wouldn't matter for? Superman. Will Smith for Superman!

It's already sounding like a disaster.

Not really. Honestly, the only thing we can really glean from what we know already is that if the film isn't good, it'll probably just be because it was mediocre and bland.

Sounds good. On that note, I'm familiar with "Red White and Black" but haven't actually read it. So thanks for reminding me to put that one on my reading list. :woot:

"Hey Steve, you know that serum we injected you with that gave you your powers? Yeah, turns out we killed, like, 20 black guys during the prototype phase before we got it right and gave it to you."

Uh....can we stop with all the comic book character stuff so I can read posts on Ghostbusters 3? :o

I'm actually starting to miss the knee jerk reactions.

I'm not convinced they're not going to surprise us by having this be connected to the original franchise somehow.

They could always use the alternate dimension idea. I'm still hopeful that they find a way to include the original Ghostbusters.

Not to get wildly off topic, but the Human Torch issue had been dealt with in reasonable detail. It's ridiculous to upset the whole family dynamic by making Johnny & Sue adopted siblings, just because Trank wanted to get one of his buddies a role.

Race aside, its clear the MJB could easily play Johhny Storm. The dude has the charisma, charm and looks and acting chops. Some just get past race and this absurd notion that adopted siblings can't have the same bond/ family dynamic as blood siblings. And some people in 2015 think it's absurb people of various races can be adopted siblings. Comics take risks and modernize things all the time, films are no different. MJB being Jonny in the films won't change the fact that there will be white Johnny's in the comics and other entertainment forms for many years to come. Long after Josh Tranks films are over and done with.

Back to Ghostbusters, I like many have concerns about this movie. Not because they are females, it's because this movie disregards the previous to movies. I would feel a whole lot better about this movie if they simply said they new female busters were mentored by or related to the original guys. And they said this movie exists in the original movies universe. Then I would be okay with every thing else, even Macarthy's and her whole "I am fat" comedy routine.

Why do they always have to be people?!!? What about animals! I would be totally fine with a dog version of Batman.Or the BatCat! It would be an all dog cast. Totally in CGI. With voice cast of comedic actors from SNL.

It would be filled with dog puns such as "I will become the BatDog! I will take a Bite out of Crime!" and "You peed on your Last fire-hydrant JokerDog!"

BATDOG Comiing MAY 2018!

I've got no issue with female Ghostbusters at all and I wouldn't mind a GB-esque film with an all-female team of paranormal investigators. I just feel using this concept as the basis for a reboot of the series is a mistake. I feel it's best to leave Ghostbusters alone and use this concept as the basis for a new series that's heavily influenced by Ghostbusters and could even be a companion piece of sorts.

I pretty much agree. If your not gonna use the characters or the mythology to a franchise then call it something else. Just taking the general premise and changing everything isn't gonna be for me.

I wanted that universe expanded on screen if anything tbh, and I don't think that's difficult to do given the material.

Really like the cast for the most part. Just the idea of completely erasing every character name that's meant something for this franchise really pisses me off.

The first time I watched Chronicle I thought MJB would be a good choice for Johnny Storm. That was a good casting choice in my book. I can't see how adoption ruins the family dynamic. That's basically an insult to families with adopted children everywhere. A friend of mine is an adopted sibling and you would never know it.
