And I guess the last thing I'll say right now is that I fully expect to laugh a few times during this new GB flick. All of those movies I mentioned before definitely had some good humor in them. But that doesn't make them good movies.

And when you take on a franchise as beloved as Ghostbusters, it should be handled with care. Jurassic World isn't a perfect movie, but the people involved all cared SO MUCH about the property, they knew how important it was to not mess with a proven formula.

Because the team wasn't like that in the original and it feels really forced. People have been wanting to see a new normal Ghostbusters movie for a long time and then they get this. It's not hard to understand. :)

Social Justice Warrior. A pejorative term for an individual who repeatedly and vehemently engages in arguments on social justice on the Internet, often in a shallow or not well-thought-out way, for the purpose of raising their own personal reputation. A social justice warrior, or SJW, does not necessarily strongly believe all that they say, or even care about the groups they are fighting on behalf of. They typically repeat points from whoever is the most popular blogger or commenter of the moment, hoping that they will "get SJ points" and become popular in return. They are very sure to adopt stances that are "correct" in their social circle.

The SJW's favorite activity of all is to dogpile. Their favorite websites to frequent are Livejournal and Tumblr. They do not have relevant favorite real-world places, because SJWs are primarily civil rights activists only online.

This is roughly what SJW has come to mean, at least it's how I frequently encounter usage of the term. I think it's accurate too.

People who genuinely believe and support such causes don't have a self-appointed label, because they aren't attention seekers trying to censor other people for fake internet cred amongst their peers.
 
I'm fine with this. As I understand, these are new characters. They haven't gender-bent anyone and I like all the actors. Having said that, I wouldn't mind if there had been one or two men on the team.

As for the concept of an all-female cast, people need to keep in mind what type of climate still exists in Hollywood. All or mostly male casts are still common and have been ever since movies began. Superhero teams still contain mostly male casts with one (or two, if we're lucky) female. There's a bulk of secondary female roles that go no further than boring perfunctory love interest. Most superhero movies are male led. I don't think that minimizing men is the solution to sexist Hollywood, nor do I think having the occasional all-female cast constitutes minimizing men. If such a thing became the majority, there would be an issue, but we aren't even close to that.

As for people who wanted the gender mix of the originals, fair enough, but these are new characters and we don't know how they'll come off on screen.

You are woefully ill-informed about a lot work people who are popular on the net are actually truly doing in their actual physical communities on a daily basis. But this is most definitely not the topic to discuss in so...

What part of "civil rights activists only online" did you not understand? Or did you just skip the entire post because you were in too much of a hurry to tell me how ill-informed I am?

If these wonderful people you speak of choose to self-identify under a term that is held in ill regard that's up to them, but the people I know who do good deeds and support causes don't seek validation for it, they just do it.

Her and Aidy Bryant are my least favorite of the SNL cast. They always feel like they're playing the same character in every skit.
 
I can't stand Leslie. Aidy has had some stuff that's endeared me to her, but I don't care for any of her recurring characters.

McKinnon and Wiig are my champs in this cast. I'm really eager to see something out of Kate beyond sketch comedy.
 
Leslie was never funny. Not even back in the day via ComicView or Lottery Ticket

And that would be Wiig's character, btw. :o
 
Are they going to call it GB3? Eh, it can't be any worse than the second one, which was ****.
 
question. if Harold Ramis hadnt died do you think GB3 would happen? i think Murray would never sign on and they would never do it without him.

Almost every article I've been to this week that reported the uniforms/packs/set pics had negative comments (and yes, even from women) about how they were excited for the film up until that point when they found out it was an actual reboot that has nothing to do with the originals nor have any of the original cast back. I've seen lots of places with good buzz. You have to get out of the nerd sphere, though. Mostly just follow links through GB Fans. Heck, most of the comments I read on Feig's Spy were along the lines of "If Ghostbusters is this good, we have nothing to worry about."

Tides are changing. People are coming around and not blindly hating something they know nothing about. Heck, the conversation here on Superherohype I feel, is proving it.
 
I actually really liked GB 2. Maybe it was my age, but going to the movies to see it and picking up the Real Ghostbusters Ecto 1A are significant memories of mine. The adult content feels a bit watered down because I'm sure they knew more kids would watch it, but other than that, it's great.
 
So what is the actual problem? This new Ghostbusters, that could be good or poo... isn't going to make the original ones suddenly vanish from existence is it?

Personally i think this whole concept is pretty awesome. Why remake something and do it the same as the original? The whole point of remaking something is to freshen it up and do new things right?

Agreed. I don't understand why there needs to be ties to the original two movies. Why can't it just be a different story focusing on another set of Ghostbusters?
