Ghostbusters 3 - Part 4

Yeah I wasn't expecting anything that overt. Like one of them might be Ray's paranormal-nerd niece or something.

Also whether people believe in ghosts or not, if supernatural activity died down after GB2 and stayed down the Ghostbusters would shut down. So I think the idea of rookies starting up the franchise again would have been reasonably accommodating to both continued worldbuilding and a sort of origin story.

Total understandable, the whole shutting down thing. My problem with GB2 is that there were folks who still didn't believe ghosts exist. If there was anyone like that in a sequel after, not only Stay Puft, but the friggin' Statue of Liberty walked through the city it would be weird.

I like that they're doing this alternate reality/reboot and reintroducing us to Ghostbusters. As much as I'd like to see the old guys together, I feel like it would've created a bit of an identity crisis with the film, relying too much on the old and not really giving us something new. I'm more intrigued by seeing how the world would react to ghost and ghost busting nowadays. It's a much different place. Just my opinion, though.

I like the costumes and Ecto-1 but the movie still just feels so forced. I hope they release a trailer that I will like but I doubt it.

They seem to be doing it with Star Wars. We don't know how much screen time Solo, Luke, and Leia have but it's clearly meant to be a handoff to a new generation.

Is the black lady really tall or are the other 3 short?

Star Wars is a different beast though. Star Wars, in a way, never left us. The last film was back in 2005 and has had a strong cartoon in Clone Wars that has gone on for, what, 5 or 6 seasons? Now Rebels is continuing the trend. Even still, the new movies had to completely rewrite several years of expanded universe. It didn't reboot, but it had to retconn.

Ghostbusters, however, faded for the most part after the sequel in '89, twenty six years ago. Yeah there was a video game and some comic series and yes I think they're fantastic, but they never became anything remotely close to what Star Wars has been doing. I know a lot of folks that have heard of Ghostbusters and haven't seen it or 'thought' they saw it on TV once. We may not like it or want it (some of us), but a reboot makes more sense than it ever would for Star Wars.

Maybe it's because I'm seeing the pic on my phone so it's not that clear, but those Proton Packs look a little big on them; and I assume that that place behind them is their headquarters.

Other than that, it's not bad at all. But how their characters will be is another story.

You forgot about the animated series...both of them.

True, but as successful as the Real Ghostbusters was it ended in '91, not long after the second movie. Extreme Ghostbusters was '97, but it never really took off due to lackluster marketing and a bad timeslot. They never even gave us a box set! Maybe next year.

Aside from celebrations during the 25th and 30th anniversaries, Ghostbusters has been out of the spotlight for a while.

Yeah I remember that, here it was shown on a local channel at 7pm on Saturdays.

I seem to remember not being able to watch it because it came on arou d the time I had to leave for school. It was pretty good when I got to watch it. I was pretty pumped for the premiere.

Ultimately it doesn't matter right now and I hope the end product is good regardless, but I've seen too many franchises be able to continue way later and it would have been no problem with a more lose sequel/reboot that kept in continuity while introducing a new team. It's just as close minded for the film makers to think otherwise imo. Look at what happened with Evil Dead, a few people argued the same thing...and now we have follow up to the original and the remake will more then likely be left in the dust.

As for popularity, Ghostbusters is extremely well known and has carried it's popularity very solid for not having a mainstream film since 89. That game didn't sell well because of gameplay, it's sales were all based on story and the actors. I know people who haven't seen the first Star Wars trilogy, doesn't mean thats a solid representation of everyone. Ghostbusters had a huge impact with pop culture that very few films can match. This film is gonna kick off nostalgia madness because it's one of the most well known films for people born in the 70's, 80s and 90s. Plenty have shown their own kids the film and the interest should be there regardless if the younger ones have seen the original just based on the fun premise and cool gadgets.

I don't suppose anyone can photoshop these to take out the stripes?

I dig McKinnon's punk look. Also that she looks like Eagon from TAS.

Ghostbusters is extremely well known, yes. Or maybe better put, a lot of folks have at least heard of it or recognize the symbol. Isn't it one of the most recognised logos in the world? But my point in all the ramblings above is that it has no where near the fandom of Star Wars.

Hey! I'm a super fan. I literally have weeks where I alternate Ghostbuster tees each day of the week and I still play with the old firehouse toy from time to time, blasting the Ecto through the doors and sometime knocking them off the hinges. I'm also one of those parents that's going through The Real Ghostbusters with his two sons. When I show them the above picture of the girls in gray, I don't hear them say 'Reboot!' or 'Where's Peter Venkman?' They say, ' Hey, it's the Ghostbusters.' They're too young to care past that. Us diehards aren't as huge a base as we like to think, but those younger, often more casual fans, if the movie's good, won't care as much if it's a reboot. If it speaks to them and their generation, the movie will be a success.

Again though, your talking about one instance from one demo. If this movies quality aint up to par, they are gonna compare just like we do in 5 years or so. ROTJ was my favorite SW movie as a kid, but when I was a teen that changed quickly to ESB. We don't carry the same preference as we age. Things change quick. Kids obviously accept much more then adults, but they cant bank on just impressing a 5 year old. They have to hit all demos since this is a franchise that will appeal to 20-50 year olds instantly based on name alone. And that's a huge section of movie goers.

The appeal to children is gonna be their regardless, but I do question how much of that very younger demo will be male this go around. While the teen to adults will just care on the quality, it seems clear the new merch and toyline will make sure to include the older members cause they know younger kids like to roleplay. I think they will start releasing the older members in cartoons as well too. And while that will be awesome, it will play into what you were talking about. With kids questioning why their favorite characters in a new cartoon are not present in the films.

I don't know, I keep thinking about this alot and aside from my personal preference I just think that the franchise and merch would be in a better place if it followed continuity with a new cast say like Jurassic World.

I'm still not sure about this but I'm willing to give it ago, I just hope they are better than the style of humour that a lot myself included are worried about

This film doesn't need period jokes, or fat jokes, boob jokes etc

That's the one thing in worried about they pull crap like one can't fit into the suit, or carry the packs etc

I'm hoping for some great wit and dialogue

As I mentioned earlier, it could've worked if they made them their daughters...

That or show them simply buying the franchise to function in somewhere like Chicago or la. That way you get your connection and cameo without waiting for daddies to save the day

It's cool. It's cool. I appreciate the push back :yay:. Part of my issue is if you can't have Venkman and Spengler, why bother? They just waited way too long for this to be what some of us were wanting. Right now I'm just hoping this doesn't just mimic the original movies and does something new. I also wouldn't mind a creative mention of how this is an alternate reality or something, which is still possible. I'll be pumped either way.

Anyways, who cares? Did you just see that Batman v Superman trailer. Holy mother!!

Agreed with the Alt verse, and ultimately to each their own  Very curious on how everything falls into place for the franchise.

...and yeah Snyder dishes out the best trailers.
