The debating is still just for angry online sport. Both sides want to engage and will take any bait to call out/insult. Sadly this is how Ghostbusters will continue to get headlines and attention until a good film with a co-ed cast is out and a success. Not sure how anyone could get confused or would choose to ignore the fact he's already spoken highly for the 2016 film and cast.

His comments here were all about going back to technique in film, score and sound. The majority should understand that.

“We went back to the work files for the sound of the proton pack. And we went back to the stems of Elmer Bernstein’s score," Reitman explained. "Just for where it says, in the teaser, ‘Sumer 2020,’ we went back and found the original physical vinyl letters they used to create the Ghostbusters poster in 1984. Rescanned them and then our titles guys reprinted them. We filmed the titles. Not like in a computer. We shot physical titles with a light and smoke effect because that’s how they would have done it back in the day... We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans."

And maybe said people need to grow the **** up and learn that not everything has some ulterior motive.
I second this. There is no conspiracy or agenda. It's PERFECTLY OK to have female leads in film. You guys like Princess Leia, Ellen Ripley, and Sarah Conner, so what's the difference? If it's an age thing with you lot, i swear to God I'll be upset.

People really need to be aware that Ghostbusters 2016 flopped. it made Sony lose money. they probably won't make another movie purely for women's rights or whatever.

But at the same time you know they won't just shelve ghostbusters. they were likely always going to go into a different direction.

Plus i don't think there is anything wrong with what he said.
“This is going to be a love letter to Ghostbusters. I love this franchise. I grew up watching it. I consider myself the first Ghostbusters fan," Reitman initially said on the podcast. "I was like seven years old when that movie came out and I love it. I want to make a movie for my fellow Ghostbusters fans.” He concluded with, “We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans."

Not to mention the new Halloween. People loved seeing an older Laurie Strode kick Michael Myers ass.

Wait, so now GB 2016 is called Ghostbusters: Answer the Call?

Happy now? Can we move on?
NO!!! Paul is clearly part of the patriarchy system now, and he's only thinking with his Y chromosome! OUTRAGE!!!

*reality slaps face*

What...I...I'm sorry. I don't know what happened there. Almost like all calm and reason and rational thought had left me...

(this was meant as a joke, by the way)

For me gender wasn't the issue with the last movie. The humor and the plot were the reason I didn't enjoy it.

I know some people liked Hemsworth's dumb male bimbo character but I found him unfunny. Not really a fan of that type of broad comedy for a Ghostbusters film.

Luis Tully and Janosz Poha were ditzy characters but still believable as people that could exist.

To be fair, a lot of movies do that (even much better ones). I mean, The Avengers filmed in Cleveland I think? And they said it was NYC. (I'm not bring that up just because you have an Avengers avvy, it's just the first one that came to mind).

Doesn't Vancouver usually stand in for New York?

It's almost like.... Twitter's Outrage culture picked a fight over nothing? Huh.

For some reason, people may be a bit sensitive of things that would appear to be encouraging the crowd that drove Leslie Jones off twitter.

How anyone can mix up what he’s saying is ridiculous. He’s saying this won’t be an indie dramedy ala Juno.

I swear, sometimes the internet...

I'm late on this as Reitman and Feig have cleared it up for the drama lama's, but this was how I read his comments as well, he was saying he wasn't going to do Ghostbusters in the tone of Juno, basically he was going to be looking to match it with the Ghostbusters tone rather than the Jason Reitman tone.

I see the whole Reitman issue being much more about those wanting to tear down his GB 3 the way others teared down Paul Feig's GB 2016.

I do think that there's a revenge factor from those who felt Feig's film got an unfair shake and now they want to return the favor in kind and take down Reitman's GB 3.

I won't call it a war within the fanbase because the divide seems to be more of the diehard fans of the original films versus those people who supported Feig's film but who may not be diehard GB fans in general.

And I'm on the side of those who were disgusted by how the man-children and alt-right acted in 2016, but this... this is the kind of bandwagon oversensitivity that makes us look bad.

It's the two Internet extremes colliding. They're vocal enough that people with rational and constructive opinions aren't heard through the loud noise.

Yep. This is exactly what it is. And it sucks. The extremists on either side are still a very small minority yet their agenda has worked. I would not call either "fans". They are in it for the battle of the sexes or are just trying to get think pieces and start debate on their sites. Another thing that is pissing me off is articles that fail to acknowledge Kylie. A majority of the fanbase has wanted her to show up for quite sometime. But no, lets focus on the sexist jerks and act like they represent the whole fanbase.

Too many people now feel ashamed or have to watch what they say very carefully when talking about these films. Every conversation I've had with people starts with them almost being scared to talk about their opinions. That's not good.

Still not sold on kids but everything else sounds promising. I sincerely hope "outrage" is kept to a minimum. It's bonkers that Ghostbusters of all things has become weaponized in an internet gender war.
