There is musical call backs, and then there is reusing the same damn music.

sigh
It's not uncommon for a movie series to reuse score (Star Wars for example)

It worked for me because it took me right back to the library scene in the first movie and established that this Ghostbusters is linked to that series and is not a sequel to the 2016 monstrosity.

Bring on the nostalgia! I am here for it.

To be fair, the film isn’t out until November. It could very well be the actual score, but it’s not uncommon that they’re simply using a temp track for now until the final score is recorded/completed.

Makes sense, except the whole concept of the movie has been pure, distilled memberberries.

I could see it going either way tbh. Could be temp music for the sake of marketing that gets replaced. You would think even if the music was being reused it would be fresh orchestrations at least. It won't make or break the film for me. I liked the original soundtrack very much and if it is used appropriately in Afterlife I'm fine there too.

Was that an actual clip from the film? Or just a teaser/commercial/other?

It definitely sets the tone.

And I'm down.

I hope they don't spoil the reveal of the OG Ghostbusters. Save that for the first time in theatres. Though, I bet they'll spoil it in the next trailer.

That scene will be amazing.... I can't wait for the figures...

Yeah I liked that. Does it need the Stay Puft reference? Probably not, but the little dudes are cute and them roasting each other is about the right balance of funny and dark for Ghostbusters. Rudd is also reacting like a human being and not just improving funny lines which I appreciate. Looks like a tonal improvement over GB2016 already. Still in.

I don't like the reference... wasn't it created from Ray's imagination... how could it then be a thing.... for someone else...

The music and the overall creepy factor is a big win. Nice callback to the original movie.

Also, those mini Stay Puft gave me major Gremlins vibes lol

I thought the exact same thing... which is why I wish they were not CGI, but practical puppets or stop motion.... with slight cgi..

either way, I feel it's for merchandise for Christmas.. watch these things sell like hot (smores) cakes... at xmas.

.

I always thought Ray pictured an existing friendly marshmallow mascot. I guess in the world of Ghostbusters, a marshmallow company would probably adopt that image. It may have come from Ray's imagination but it walked the streets of New York for real.

You mean in GB16? No idea there. In the original movie Stay Puft brand marshmallows are an existing brand--they're on Dana's countertop when the eggs cook, and there's a billboard for them by the Firehouse.

That and Ray specifically remembers roasting that brand at camp as a kid which is why the mascot is conjured.

Oh good. Reality was falling apart for me for a second there.

It was an existing brand in the series and the big Stay Puft was created as a result of Ray's thoughts yes, but Ray only chose the form of an existing Destructor.

My thought about it was that its a very big coincidence and another ghost(s) or being inhabited/choose the form of the Stay Puft Marshmallows at a random Wal-Mart type place. Or maybe the Destructor was set free if the containment unit was shutdown again. We've seen references to Ivo Shandor at the mining facility maybe the ghost sought out the material in the mine again and the whole town became a lightning rod for demons who were previously in NYC.

It's a nice gag for the audience, but yea sort of weird that it would happen like that. However we have no context either so who knows maybe it makes sense.

Yes, Ray bought it to life... so how did these lot come about?

Nope... don't even mention that mess from 2016.

Exactly.. so who conjured them this time... and why?

totally... it felt shoe horned in. The context in the movie may explain it... but I felt it was weird that something Ray imagined 30 years later appeared....

would have been way better if there was a critter/gremlin type creature that, whilst attacking each other, one dived into a marshmallow bag and came out covered in them, like a nod to that... but yeah... it didn't make sense to me.
Paul Rudd was not aware of them.... and god, don't let it be a dream sequence.

But I think you’re missing that Ray conjured a giant size version of it, but the actual mascot is a real thing in that universe. So them coming alive could be for anyone. Like if I image a giant Tony the Tiger, you could too since we’re all aware of the brand. The actual brand isn’t just Ray’s imagination.

Yeah, let's see how they come to life first. Stuff is clearly going down in the small town.

Ultimately, the video game explained that Gozer can only re-appear in this dimension in the destructor form that was chosen at the time of arrival... so it's trapped in the form of the marshmallow man. I doubt the video game will be canon to the new film, but perhaps that little tidbit will be carried over to this new story?

Given that the trailer shows us Terror Dogs will be back, clearly this is ramping up to be a re-manifestation of Gozer, so I'd say that game logic is going to prove to be sound. In fact, the IDW comics book series' first story arc dealt with a new servant that Gozer created just to come over to our dimension and force Ray to choose a new destructor form for the Gozerian to take!

Whatever it is, nobody can reasonably cry foul about any aspect until you see the movie. The movie will provide some explanation and reasoning for it, I'm sure. If one would rather the film did something new instead of the marshmallow man again... well that's another topic entirely.

So someone else just imagined them back to life or in a spectre form?

Nah... that scene lost me.

However, everything else is good, so I can forget about this for now, until the context is shown...

Most logical assumption based on the clip alone is that spooky things are happening which are making inanimate objects come to life. Them being Stay Puft could just be coincidence for our benefit.

Hearing there are terror dogs and they could be doing Gozer again is a little disappointing. I get the desire to connect the lore but I don't want to see the same stuff.

like stay puft creatures?

Unless the give it proper explanation, I didn't really care for the Stay Pufts either. Yeah it was like Gremlins and all, but why are the ghosts taking the form of little Stay Puft creatures? They never did anything like that before. Why are they haunting marshmallows?

In the first movie, it took the form of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man for a specific reason.

Jesus, if we’re giving this much scrutiny to this clip, it’s going to be a long marketing campaign.

Are we arguing about nostalgia again?

I mean one thing we can do here is scrutinize. Also, nothing I've seen from this movie yet makes me think it looks must-see.
