What are the chances Egan communicates from beyond the grave in this?

I'm a big paranormal guy (particularly electronic voice phenomena), but for some reason I don't want that in there ESPECIALLY if done in a deus ex machina kind of way - too cheeseball. I know that sounds ironic given the movie's premise though.

So far, Cobra Kai has been my favorite "passing of the torch", slash "revival" of an 80s property.

For me , it's done everything right, in that, its honored the old characters and the mythology, while at the same time, introducing compelling new, and younger characters which you really care about, and are interested in.

It looks like Ghostbusters Afterlife is taking that same tact of honoring the myths and the old characters while telling a new story with new, and interesting ,younger characters.

Definitely Force Awakens vibe in the first half, right down to Ecto 1 as the Millennium Falcon.

I just hope the story gives a good reason why she wouldn’t already know her grandfather was a ghostbuster. They saved NYC twice. I just don’t want 90 minutes of buildup toward believing ghosts were real before a rushed finale.

I'm totally on board. Looks like a good time. It seems to really honor the original and Harold Ramis's presence will be felt throughout.

Of course! Had a smile on my face throughout the entire trailer

But Reitman’s breakdown and what he said just further sealed the deal for me. Hell, it just became my most anticipated movie of the year!
Sorry, I totally get you. I was just agreeing. I need to find 15 minutes to watch it. Just caught the beginning, when he was talking about how Ghostbusters is about going into business with others.

This of course looks tons better than the 2016 "film" and that is to be expected.

Not personally that into the Stranger Things vibe myself, and would have hoped for a little bit more comedy in the trailers. But the trailer has so much good stuff going for it othervise that Ill definetly see it.

Gozer?

The trailer was great. I like how they're emulating the energy effects from the originals. Those purple flares are a nice touch. It helps you get used to the ghosts now being CGI, which can be jarring (and was really jarring in the 2016 movie, which was CGI overload).

I also like how they're expanding on the lore around Gozer and Shandor. I thought the video game did a really good job with that, and I like the bits we've seen so far here. It adds to the "mythology" of it all. So when a Terror Dog shows up, it makes sense.

The 2016 film , visually at least, had alot of bright colors which gave it a cartoon like look, at least ,that's what it looked like to me.

The world of GB : Afterlife looks like the lived in world of the original film with more muted colors with less of the broad comedy feeling of the 2016 version.

Not to constantly dunk on GB2016, but my god it is ugly. Everything is day-glow in that film. If nothing else, Afterlife has improved visually already.

One thing I actually am really hopeful about, is for the potential this has to be closer to what I wish The Force Awakens actually was, while still taking some cues from its successes. Which they clearly are in the marketing.

The irony is that it is all about family. This has it in spades, and organically too. It's using Egon's family because we lost Egon. Then of course we have the director. You can tell from all the little details that Jason Reitman is connected to this world.

Watched the Jason Reitman trailer breakdown video and you can definitely tell he put his heart into this movie. I really do think we will be getting something special

I'm glad this seems to be getting a good reaction. I've had a good feeling about this one for a while and was so looking forward to seeing it...last year. It's always risky having blind faith in a movie these days, but just the idea of a son doing a sequel to his father's work with a new take, just felt like the ingredients are there for something really genuine and meaningful. While it's capitalizing on some modern reboot trends (and has some of Sony's obnoxious product placement), I really don't have the feeling that this was made in board room.

I really wish they would've released it this summer. This summer is really in need of that must-see.

At this point I just take it as a positive that Fieg just did his own remake rather than attempt to continue the existing story. If he had directed a movie in THAT style that was a sequel to the originals...that's what would've been truly crushing.

I found Answer the Call to be better than I expected and a second place finisher in the Ghostbusters movie rankings. Though (hopefully) it looks like it will drop a slot due to Afterlife. But doing a remake was the absolute worst decision imaginable and it crushed long term fans waiting for an actual sequel.

Fieg used the excuse that the ladies had to develop their own equipment, but the frikkin' EPA said that the equipment the Ghostbusters were using back in the day was extremely dangerous. They could have had one of the OG GBs hand over their proton packs and ghost traps, with the gals deciding the 80s era technology was unsafe and all new equipment was required.

The trailer was fantastic, had a real 80's Amblin feel to it, the tone and visuals are spot on.
But the original wasn’t an Amblin film. This film looks too reverential to the other ones instead of continuing the legacy of being about a bunch of goofballs who bust ghosts. I don’t want another Force Awakens situation. I want a new story in the same universe, not a rehash of the originals.

What in the trailer makes you think we’re getting a rehash of the original? Go to the 2016 reboot for “being about a bunch of goofballs who bust ghosts.”

This looks completely fresh to the world of Ghostbusters while still following a group of outsiders (in this case kids).

Apart from what we know of the story in the trailers being pretty different from the previous films, setting it in the rural countryside as opposed to a sprawling metropolis like Manhattan makes me hopeful that it won't be a straight up rehash. Location does make a difference, and even though I did love The Force Awakens, I did side-eye the fact that the planets seen in it were more or less identical to the ones in A New Hope along with many similar story beats.

Agreed.

To me, it's a new story in a familiar world.

I see it as continuing the legacy of the original films in that it's saying " Where would things be now" as opposed to "Let's redo the original film".

The original film was comedy, yes, but the Ghostbusters 1984 film wasn't about a bunch of clowns bumbling around and taking down ghosts.

The dialog was pretty sharp and witty, and the Ghostbusters themselves weren't fools. It wasn't a Caddyshack or Animal House with ghosts.

The film actually had moments which creeped people out as well as making them laugh back in the 80s. That's what made the film so unique at the time.

I'm aware it wasn't an Amblin film but this feels like it's tonally in the same coming of age lane as those films from the 80's, nothing like the original Ghostbusters.

The "where would things be now" aspect is what makes this fun. It's fun to invest in the reality of the premise, which is what the original two films did. They had verisimilitude, and also were wacky and hilarious. They were both things.

So many takes on Film Twitter ripping this for being too "Spielbergian" and not having enough jokes. It's really odd to say, but I'm convinced of these people really never actually 'got' Ghostbusters and the full appeal of it. It was more than just a comedy.

Ghostbusters is way closer to something like Men in Black than Caddyshack. Especially for a generation that watched those films as kids, watched the cartoons, had the toys, etc.

The fact that so many people seem not to grasp this is frankly astonishing to me. And I'm sorry, but I think a lot of this stems from people stubbornly looking to defend their 2016 takes.

There are shots that aren't disimilar to the 2016 one in the new trailer. There is plenty of color, and I am happy about it.

Well based on what we’ve seen, we are getting Gozer dogs again.

And I love how people think voicing criticism of this movie means I just love the 2016 version. That was trash. Ghostbusters is a comedy first and foremost. That doesn’t mean comedy like the reboot that just wasn’t funny. But I have yet to see anything that shows this movie actually has funny moments akin to the original. It’s banking too much on nostalgia from what we’ve seen so far.
