I don’t need that. As long as they don’t kill them offscreen in some stupid way like they did with Will Smith in Independence Day, I’ll be satisfied.
Or kill them all like the sequel trilogy. Han was actually fine. Luke was not satisfying and now they kind of have to kill off Leia.
I will be ok if Egon is gone. I’d rather that than a sequel where he’s just off somewhere else because he’d certainly find a way back if only for the scientific data that’d come out of it.

Murray always wanted to come back as a ghost and I think that’s a terrible idea.

I can see the storyline being that one of the original ghostbusters disappeared while busting, so his son or daughter becomes a paranormal forensic to find him. Accidentally opens a portal that somehow triggers ghosts to come back so they form a new team.

It’s cliche as hell but something the studio would probably like it.

If the last one is anything to go by I don't think another Ghostbusters will be majorly popular.

As long as they don't constantly attack the fans and the next couple Trailers don't make the Movie look like some spoof parody, I think the Movie will be successful enough. Might not make a billion dollars at the box office, but it will be far from the box office bomb that the 2016 Movie was.

Also, maybe keep it smaller. Did Ghostbusters 2016 really need a budget of $144 Million?

I wish keeping it small was something studios did.

All that money and the effects looked about as good as a live action Scooby Doo movie.

I also hated how they essentially got rid of the ghost trap in the movie and just blew them up I guess? The whole proton gloves where they just punched ghosts just didn’t have the same impact.

And the fanbase is already under attack. Though it's only by some salty "journalist" and not Sony.

Jason Reitman Is Directing 'Ghostbusters 3,' And It's All Your Fault

Of course it's another white man who attacks a person for being white... and a man... So the usual routine.

To say that I have mixed feelings about this is an understatement. On one hand, you're rewarding a white male director whose last five movies bombed (and of those, only the two starring Charlize Theron and penned by Diablo Cody received positive reviews) the keys to a hugely valuable franchise mostly because he's the son of the guy who directed those first two Ghostbusters movies. And yes, unintentional or not, you're essentially rewarding the specific demographics who reacted in the very worst way to the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot with the thing they claimed to want instead of the... horrors... all-female sci-fi comedy. And yet, we have only ourselves to blame. Studios aren't charities and they tend to want movies that attract moviegoers and make money.

Casting is definitely going to be a formidable task for this one. It is pretty perfect timing though, with Moranis coming out of retirement. I would love it if he's actually the one who interacts with the new team the most, because the other Ghostbusters are missing. I think there's some great potential to integrate a tribute to Ramis as a part of the story of the old team.

Just spitballing ideas for the new leads, I definitely think they should avoid doing "New Venkman", "New Spengler", etc. The characters should stand on their own and form a unique and different team, rather than just new faces for the old characters. As of today, I choose...

Jason Mitchell - The Would Be Leader, Winston's son, Starts out in it for the fame
Alia Shawkat - The Informed, Egon's daughter, Studies all manner of occult and the supernatural, Only one who understands the gravity of the work
Christopher Mintz-Plasse - The Outsider, Brought in for tech building but wants nothing to do with "the ghost stuff"
Kelly Marie Tran - The Enthusiast, Worships the ground the original team walked on

Nahh, I can't agree with this
A movie like this needs established big names, not near-unknowns
and I definitely don't want them to go down the "this character's son and that character's daughter" route, that's always so damn cheesy

That's a BS take. The reboot was NOT GOOD. I don't care that it was all female. If everything else was the same, acting, story, FX, and it was all males, it still would have been crap.

EXCLUSIVE: Jason Reitman is directing a new 'Ghostbusters' movie

Entertainment Weekly has learned exclusively that Jason Reitman will direct and co-write an upcoming film set in the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie, which was directed by his father, Ivan Reitman.

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman says. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

Sony Pictures has dated the film for Summer 2020, with plans to start shooting in a few months.

It’s still too soon to reveal the plot of the screenplay, who the new characters will be, or whether the original actors like Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, or Bill Murray will return. Harold Ramis died in 2014.

Now that's a big surprise!

I don't think making Ghostbusters 3 a legacy film needs it is their children. What it means is that the original Ghostbusters are mentors (like Rocky was to Adonis). I imagine it is going to be a passing of the torch story to some degree. It doesn't have to be to their own children or anything like that. Just likely they will pass it down to new Ghostbusters.

They kinda implied Peter was the leader in the cartoon but he was more of the face of the team who could handle the press and people asking questions about what they do because Egon wasn't really a people person. In fights Egon was pretty much the boss though.

I think Oscar needs to make some kind of appearance, especially if Sigourney Weaver returns.

Jason Reitman’s jerk kid character from II should return.

If Bill Murray doesn't want to be in it or whatever, he could be his stand in. Or he could have a small role and own Venkman's shares in the company or whatever. They have options. I wouldn't make it about him directly, though.

I was responding to CaptainWagner's post suggesting they be children of Egon and Winston... I agree with you, they don't need to be, and shouldn't be, the original's kids

Venkman isn't leader material, he's the overly relaxed jerk.

Yeah but he was still the defacto leader, the one who would talk in interviews, talk to clients, or take the lead talking to the mayor, the confident guy who basically sold the whole idea to his colleagues... yeah he was laid back and kind of a [lovable] d**k, but he was still the one who asserted himself more than anyone else

Hopefully this turns out to be really good after that mediocre 2016 reboot. I do still love the first two movies and I grew up watching the 90's cartoon every morning as a kid, so I'd say I'm a pretty passionate fan when it comes to this franchise.

The Real Ghostbusters cartoon was probably one of the best animated adaptations ever.

I find it ironic that the actor who voiced Venkman also voiced Garfield the Cat. Bill Murray eventually voiced Garfield in the live action movies.

Alison Brie/Brie Larson
Matthew Lillard
Viola Davis
Rami Malek

Stellar cast, but I'd drop McLovin in favor of someone else. Not sure who though.

Some nerdy token white guy.
