Glee Episode V: The Sylvester Strikes Back

Most of the characters on Glee have a very basic reason that motivates a lot of their actions, that is explicitly stated.

Will is afraid of never living out his dreams and ending up like his parents (or April Rhodes).

Emma has OCD from a childhood incident.

Santana is *****y so much because she's afraid of her own feelings for Brittany and the fact that she's probably a lesbian.

Rachel was alternately spoiled by her dads and is unpopular at school, and doesn't want to end high school without some grand accompishment to show for it. Her diva-ness is probably a combination of being spoiled rotten, and a shield against her insecurities.

Kurt is a little bit like Rachel, as far as the "diva as a defense mechanism", and he's probably also spoiled by Burt (which is understandable on Burt's part, as he lost his wife and Kurt is all he has). His comment to Blaine about having to scream to get noticed is probably also telling. He dresses outrageously and plays the diva because, like Rachel, he thinks it's better than just being outright ignored, and also as a "hate on me, haters", kind of middle finger.

Sue was ****ed up by her mother, who usually wasn't around, and when she was, only ran Sue down and bullied her.

Quinn has insecurities about her "Lucy Caboosy" past and has gone through a teen pregnancy, giving away her baby, and being kicked out by her father, and defends her status and popularity so obsessively because she feels like it's the only thing she can hold onto. However, this isn't going to last past high school, and that leaves her terrified of the future (and also determined to be the reigning Queen for as long as she can in the here and now).

Blaine tries to be picture-perfect in every way, handsome, well-mannered, suave, charming, popular, inoffensive, etc. probably as his own defense mechanism from his background of being bullied. He comes across as almost a little too calm and collected, probably a little repressed. Dalton is probably the first place he found where he felt safe, hence his reluctance to "rock the boat" and go against its conformist atmosphere.
Pretty good analyze of the people there. Exactly what makes them what they are.

The other songs:

My Man by Rachel (originally by Barbra Streisand)

Try A Little Tenderness by Mercedes (originally by Otis Redding)

Back to Black by Santana (originally by Amy Winehouse)

Some People by Kurt (originally from the musical Gypsy)

All good songs (in fact, all better than what we know will be ND's main performance number at Nationals), and I like how they all make sense for the characters: Rachel and Santana are both doing other numbers by the singers who originated their biggest past triumphs ("Don't Rain On My Parade" and "Valerie", respectively), Kurt's doing another song from Gypsy, and Mercedes is...doing another song from her usual style.

My ****ing god. ANOTHER person? Jesus christ. This show is called GLEE. GLEE it means HAPPY . HAPPY!~ :(

Not too desperate for shock ratings there, Murphy?

Since when does Glee kill characters off? Two in back-to-back episodes?

Ausiello has said the first one is female and is not Emma or Beiste. I predict Sue's sister Jean, or Becky. The episode put out casting calls for Becky's mother and a priest, but there's also the pic from the episode of Sue hugging Becky, which I suspect is Becky comforting Sue after Jean's death.

The second death has me completely thrown. I can't really imagine who it could be.

Uh, I've read that THR piece, and nowhere does it say there's going to be a death in the finale. They talk a bit about Funeral, but I didn't see anything about someone else dying. Brad Falchuk has already said the whole cast will be back next season, and Chris Colfer said the finale is generally upbeat for all the characters.

all great exept for Some People. Just not in Colfers range. :/

Figgins dies then. I can see him going out Carradine-style. ;)

It's a bit odd that this hasn't been reported by any other site though. Maybe they have it wrong.

I'm wondering if they are just talking about the death in Funeral and mistakenly said it was in the finale.

It says the death happens in the May 17th (or next tuesday) episode in the article. There's only one death, and it's in Funeral.

I think the tribute episode will be Barbra Streisand, the Beatles, or U2.

For the tribute episode, I'm going to assume it's someone Glee hasn't covered before.

Murphy said the tribute episode is for somebody they just recently got the rights to. That would eliminate some of the obvious possibilities, like Elton John and the Beatles.

One notable possibility would be Disney. They're notoriously tightfisted with their music rights, but "Bella Notte" (from Lady and the Tramp) is being featured in the season two finale.

I don't think they'll kill off any of the kids. But then again Murphy claims he is going to find ways of moving the kids along so they don't linger after they graduate next season. That implies it is one of the kids who dies, but I don't see how the finale could be upbeat if they did that.

Speaking of which though, I think the show is in real trouble after season 3 ends. Nobody is going to want to invest in a new crop of kids or simultaneously see Rachel hang around McKinley after graduation. This show has a built in time bomb, I think.

No one is dying in the finale. It's just a misread of the article; he talks about the death in Funeral.

Ok, y'all just got my hopes up: If it's not Disney, I'm gonna be soooo disappointed.

I'm fine with it

I watch Skins so im already used to it. Sure it will be painful to see this cast go but if they have the right characters it could be fine.

A new cast could work (though I find it absolutely absurd that all the Glee Club members are in the same grade).

You could argue that the characters of Sue Sylvester, Will and Emma are compelling enough to help the show retain its viewers
