Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

So what's going to be the next big one after this? Dark Phoenix?

Dark Phoenix is destined for a rotten. It's been getting bad reviews since test screenings lmao.

As long as the monster fights are legit I'm good
Same here. The RT consensus:

Godzilla: King of the Monsters delivers spectacular kaiju action -- and reaffirms that cutting-edge effects are still no substitute for a good story.

There are the rare occasions where I couldn't care less about the story and I'm completely in it for the spectacle. This is one of those times. I don't really need to see a compelling arc for Millie Bobby Brown's character. I need to see modern versions of Ghidorah and Rodan duke it out on an IMAX screen. That's why I paid for a ticket in the first place.

Yup, so I’d imagine a win there would be at least comparable to a win in the States for them. Everything else is gravy.

I read that the forecast for the weekend went down so we may need China and everywhere else to step up

Remember when people were calling BvS the worst Superman or Batman movie yet? And people were like, "that is BS, the critics are wrong, no way that is worse then Batman and Robin and the Quest for Peace" and then you saw it and were like, "damn... damn."
Did that happen? Did any critic say that in their official reviews?

I remember fans on the Hype saying that. Which I would still say... No. No that was not worse in any appreciable way than either QUEST FOR PEACE or B&R.

I would take Batman & Robin over BvS easily. It is one of my favorite so bad I enjoy it movies.

And well at least Superman knows how to use his words in Quest. :o

Atleast you can still quote Batman & Robin 20 years later. 20 Years from now the only thing we’ll quote from BvS is Martha.

And 230million ww is a healthy projection.

I will be happy if it can crack $30 mil in Japan, which '14 just missed.

I will feel comfortable if the movie can hit $60 million this weekend. A run similar to Kong would be helpful.

Perhaps random, or not with Kong being in this franchise and discussions of critics' and audience scores, I couldn't believe the 2005 King Kong only has a 50% rating among users. One of my favorite action/adventure movies.

Some Japanese posters. First from poster legend Yuji Kaida. It's been interesting watching such an old dude tansfer entirely into digital painting.

And then from longtime Godzilla concept artist Shinji Nishikawa
I really like the composition on this one.

Let's hope Bob Egleton takes a crack at these new designs soon too.

I could care less about reviews. I can accept that these movies aren’t for everyone.. That’s not going to curb my excitement for this movie.

Those are pretty sweet.

Just reading some of the reviews and they themselves didn’t even to try to give it a chance. One critic said that it’s a Godzilla movie so of course it’s no good.. That’s why I really don’t follow the critics. To the movies I go tomorrow, Friday and Saturday!!

Double Toasted Reviews:

Corey: High Rental/Low Matinee -Fans Full Price

Martin-Low Full Price/High Matinee

Just got my ticket for tomorrow. Like I said, forget the reviews.

KotM in IMAX, I've been waiting for ya for 5 years - better believe I'm coming.
