Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

So which head design do you guys like most on Ghidorah? The middle one is my favorite.

Is there a documentary to explain your nerd-infused highly defensive sarcasm?

You can hide being generics and "pretend" to not understand where I'm coming from all you want.

Dude, I'm not the one needed as you said "ample evidence" to be provided by the film to justify fights between colossal sized fantasy monsters based upon a Japanese series with a world wide fan base that has enjoyed seeing these monsters clash for decades without needing to stop the narrative for an exposition dump to rationalize building sized moths attacking irradiated giant dino hybrids that shoot atomic death from their mouths.

It's not my fault that your previous statement comes off very nitpicky to the point of absurdity. If a giant moth is the bridge too far without a pseudo scientific explanation (and I truly LOVE me some pseudo scientific techno babble... I am a Trekkie after all and appreciate when it's attempted in my Sci Fi and fantasy as it helps ground things... But given context it has its limits) then yeah, I can't see how any of this is gonna be your cup of tea.

Do you mean from the poster? They seem to all be the same to me though it would be cool if they had slight variations.

Ghidorah's design seems to have different designs in the poster, but that could be perspective.

And if you need a reason for Mothra being able to take some hits, maybe just use the fact that most bug-like invertebrates have a durable-for-their-size exoskeleton that gives them the form they need and protection for their squishy insides. Maybe Mothra has a tough but flexible carapace that Ghidorah will have to work to break through.

It reminds of this thing Grant Morrison said about kids vs adults when it comes to fiction.

“Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”
"Kids understand that real crabs don't sing like the ones in The Little Mermaid. But you give an adult fiction, and the adult starts asking really ****ing dumb questions like `how does superman fly? How do those eyebeams work? Who pumps the batmobile's tires?' it's a ****ing made-up story, you idiot! Nobody pumps the tires!"

As most people have said, this is one of the best trailers to come out of SDCC!! I actually cried a bit when watching it for the first time!

Mothra spreading her wings in the water falls was my favourite shot, though there were plenty of other great ones!

Really looks like no holding back in this film.

Nah look again, all 3 heads are different from eachother.

They all look the same to me with no appreciable design differences what so ever. The "faces" are at different angles but they look all the same to me. Same mouths, same Numer of "horns" etc. Just not seeing any differences.

Apparently, we'll be seeing a character from Kong Skull Island in the film!!

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes from San Diego Comic-Con, Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty revealed a surprising twist to the cast. He said, "We do bring back one character from Kong: Skull Island." Dougherty isn't ready to reveal who that character is, instead teasing everyone will have to check out the movie next year to find out.

Very interesting!!

That jives with the rumour that Charles Dance might be someone familiar.

Charles Dance is old Hiddleston?

Y’all talked about the Pazuzu cameo?

'Tis a good connective tissue between the two films if that's the case.

Agreed. Also puts more meat on the bones of Monarch. Could be Dance is what Tom becomes after decades of working for the organization and then goes rogue?

The Magneto to Serizawa's Professor X, as it were.

Nice comparison. I don't think Vera makes it out of this so if Dance's character survives I could see him acting as a foil to Brown and Kyle Chandler too in KK v G. We know those two as father and daughter will be showing up. My suspicions now are Vera is under Dance's sway.

Pazuzu's an actual creature from Mesopotamian religion, so it's less of a reference to Exorcist and more to that ancient mythology.

It'll definitely be interesting to see what that underwater city is about.
