Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

Nice comparison. I don't think Vera makes it out of this so if Dance's character survives I could see him acting as a foil to Brown and Kyle Chandler too in KK v G. We know those two as father and daughter will be showing up. My suspicions now are Vera is under Dance's sway.

Having read the leaked synopsis, which I do believe is accurate, I think Dance is very significant to this series.

Weirdly, I think Thomas Tull went full Feige on this franchise and had a large story planned from the start.

Pazuzu's an actual creature from Mesopotamian religion, so it's less of a reference to Exorcist and more to that ancient mythology.

Maybe this guy will join the fight:

Anyone else think one of the shots in the trailer is the aftermath of the Muto battle in San Francisco? Will we see how that affected this movie's cast?

Do you think it's more open ended MCU like or a set story in chapters like Potter?

My thing is that there has to be a certain amount of self containment to it all with some kind of end point otherwise the world in universe would change drastically from being like reality. I mean at some point if Kaiju/Titan attacks become regular events then humanity is gonna go into a bit of that Pacific Rim territory psychologically speaking. I mean D.C. getting flattened alone would change all kind of dynamics.

Would that be a direction they would take films past KK v G or would that movie just be the wrap up of everything?

Ah, I didn't know a plot synopsis had leaked. Tracked it down and instantly regretted reading it-- Definitely seems real and has a fun surprise or two. Not TOO bad for me, considering I'm not all that into this whole thing. But for those who are and wish to remain spoiler free... Stay well away.

They all look the same to me with no appreciable design differences what so ever. The "faces" are at different angles but they look all the same to me. Same mouths, same Numer of "horns" etc. Just not seeing any differences.

I must be taking crazy pills then, because I see all 3 heads being completely different from one another, especially the middle one. I guess we'll just have to wait for better look, but I swear that I'm seeing 3 different designs.

They bought the rights to the Toho characters in a package so they definite knew some direction of where they were heading for the start.

As for Kong Skull Island, what we ended up getting has basically nothing to do with what they were making when it was first announced at comicon years ago. At that point they were planning on making a prequel to the original film set in 1916 or so.

Jordan Vogt Roberts took a meeting and more or less said that sounded like a terrible idea and they asked him to come back with a pitch. Not thinking they'd ever go for it he pitched them on the whole Apocalypse Now mashup. To which they ended up saying yes. Roberts never planned on actually getting to make it.

Besides know which characters they own, I don't think there's been too much of a plan.

Could you explain how they look different to you?

I think info points to Legendary picked up 5 monsters in the initial rights purchase. A remake of KK v G is something Toho has been wanting for a while, so I can easily see them talking to Legendary about it, so Legendary did the deals needed to make it happen. I do hope the movies are successful enough that Toho allows Legendary to make them. As exciting as it is for Toho to start making Godzilla movies again, their plan seems a bit excessive.

When Roose mentioned the synopsis I almost wanted to get a PM about it but... I like being surprised.

It seems, and this is just from my interpretation, that it's building to a conclusion of sorts. There's one factor in particular that makes me think there will be some kind of end, probably sooner than later.

I think other than adding Kong to the mix, which seems like it was a case of happy corporate synergy, they more or less knew what they were going to do with a trilogy of Godzilla films. The individual directors were probably given free reign to craft the human element, and they've rejiggered Godzilla 3 into including GvK, but otherwise there seems to be a clear direction it's building to.

At 1:01, anyone else think that's San Francisco post the Godzilla and Mutos brawl?

Looks like it. Either it gets utterly demolished again, or it's a flashback to the Godzilla and MUTOs fight.

I am wondering if any of this film's characters were there? I could see such an event being a sort of "Come to Jesus" moment for like Vera or Dance's characters.

Yeah, I'm staying far away from those leaks as possible.

Me too, so now I'm a little bummed out at myself.

Especially after the trailer I really don't want too much spoiled. I mean... It's a Kaiju film so I know monsters will be on the loose wrecking shop and then Godzilla will throw down with KG possibly with help from Rodan and Mothra. But seeing that there might be juicy drama between Millie and Vera... That makes me wanna go in blind and experience that firsthand.

I guarantee that their licensing deal with Toho isn't open ended. So, that will always limit their plans and how far out they can plan.
