Some really amazing imagery in this trailer. I can't stop watching it.
This looks like the first to me. Cool monster(s) but humans that seem more dull than a 10-year old steak knife.

To be fair, thinking a WB movie with a good trailer is going to end up actually good is hyperbolic pre-assumption.We've barely gotten an idea of the human characters other than Vera Farmiga's character, but okay then. Guess all the characters are now gonna be as boring and cardboard as Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Your word is law.
Gotta love hyperbolic pre-assumptions.![]()

Its strengths over Godzilla were the fights/kills and attempts to give the humans actual personalities, imo. The whole movie had more personality, for better or worse.I still haven't seen Skull Island, but what would you say is its strengths?
Thanks FC. I really need to get on seeing that. Especially with so little on television in the dead of summer. Its strengths over Godzilla were the fights/kills and attempts to give the humans actual personalities, imo. The whole movie had more personality, for better or worse.

Well for the record, I don't love it and Brie especially was horrifically wasted. Godzilla had more of a classic monster movie atmosphere about it, and that sense of awe/dread was cool, so they both had their pros and cons to me, neither being all that great. But Kong was the more enjoyable and re-watchable to me on the whole, probably, because it didn't take itself nearly as seriously. And Vogt-Roberts had interesting visual style, that's for sure. So yeah, I think it's worth checking out, I just wouldn't get your expectations too high. Perfect for a bit of afternoon escapism. Thanks FC. I really need to get on seeing that. Skull Island was ****ing awesome. When Kong was fighting a monster next to a sunken pirate ship I had such a stupid grin on my face.

Yeah, Brie being completely wasted is exactly why I haven't seen it yet. When I heard that, I didn't feel like I needed to see it in theaters and just haven't caught it yet. I never got the impression it was great, but still need to catch at some point. Thanks for the help on keeping my expectations in check.Well for the record, I don't love it and Brie especially was horrifically wasted. Yeah, I can see where you're getting that impression from, I hope you're right. Could be pretty great if that's the case.Brie was wasted and Tom... I can't say he was bad but I don't think he was the right dude to play that sort of stoic badass part and still be entertaining. I still think what Statham could have given in that part.
But yeah, my impression is that this movie is indeed the result of looking at both Godzilla '14 and SI and bringing both their positives to the forefront while improving on the negatives, at least on first impression. And if they pull that off this could be a grand ole time in the theater.
