Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

I’m loving everything about this movie but I still think it’s going to do Godzilla vs Kong a disservice. The Big G faces a three headed dragon that can cause fatal thunderstorms and energy bolts but we’re supposed to believe an ancient gorilla can put up a harder fight for him after this movie?

That's why I don't actually think either is the main antagonist of the movie. If this is the last movie before the rights go back to Toho, I feel like they're going to have one more big classic monster for them to fight against before Godzilla (maybe only seemingly) bites the big one to save the word, leaving the moniker of "King" to Kong.

Sort of "the king is dead, long live the king" type deal?

So... It being call KONG: SKULL ISLAND was purposeful?

As much as that would piss off the G fans, and it would, no doubt, and I'm not sure how I would feel about Godzilla dying... I can't deny there is a brilliance there to the idea.

Is Kong referred to as King Kong in the title for K v G?

I thought everything in trailers were fair game. If you're that set against any and all spoilers then it should be on you to stop visiting discussion boards. At some point it gets a little ridiculous.

Like is it a spoiler to talk about the different monsters we saw in the trailer? Is it allowed to have a Mothra avatar? What CAN we post?
If something appears in a trailer....it is OK to talk about and post pics of and post gifs of.

By the time they meet.....the ancient gorilla will be able to defeat him because he will be a master of Kong Fu.

LOL

I don’t know. The Big G had been practicing his tackles. We’ll see next year.

Considering Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah are all on the posters, that's more fair game. But having an avatar of a power that up until now we didn't know Godzilla would have in the movie is a bit of a dick move. At least wait until after the movie is released. I get that it's in a trailer, but a lot of people might be avoiding them so it comes as a bit unexpected to see it pop up anywhere else but this thread.

Personally I think the best Godzilla movies were Gojira and Godzilla vs Destroyah. What do they have in common? He dies at the end of both.

Do the new monsters have a(ny) cool action scene(s)? Don't say what they are, if there are any... At least if you don't feel that answering my question is spoiler-y.

I definitely think so, along with great introductions. In fact, all the big players get awesome intros in this!

Thinking more about it these past couple of days, the kids and I agree that the titan intros and their fight scenes - along with the imagery and score - this movie felt like it had a massive scope to it.

Exactly how a Godzilla movie should look and feel!

I mean... Godzilla doesn't necessarily have to die even if Kong wins.

Also, wasn't one of Toho's notes that they couldn't kill off Godzilla in the Monsterverse?

Kong having a chance against Godzilla has always bothered me. Kong is a great monster, but c'mon. Godzilla destroys him on the way to a real fight.

I don’t think Kong is the main antagonist in this film, I’m still expecting Destroyah or Kiryu or something that they have to unite against to defeat.

But to my knowledge, they haven’t said whether they’ll do further Godzilla films after GvK and Toho are starting up their own films again. So if they do in fact choose to ultimately kill him off...the concept won’t bother me.

I’m waiting for an American made Destoroyah film, in the right hands it would be dope. Hope they also give us a good Mechagodzilla movie, it’s about time for one.

Agreed. IT WOULD BE EVEN BETTER IF CERTAIN PEOPLE ON HERE DIDN'T HAVE IT AS THEIR AVATAR, THUS SPOILING IT FOR EVERYONE CHOOSING NOT TO WATCH THE LATEST TRAILER.
Get over it! It's in the tv spot. You have no right to determine what and what can not be featured as our avatars.

I’ve always thought of Kong as the grand daddy of them all!! He pre dates Godzilla and Godzilla was largely inspired by the 33 KONG... Given that and that he is one of the most popular pop culture figures of all time along with one of AFI’s top one hundred films of all time gives him a chance. I know it’s crazy and has nothing to do with his actual abilities in a film, but it has served Batman well.. lol ( popularity helps) see Batman defeating Superman and Iron man wielding the infinity stones! None of which should have ever occurred , but they did!

He is an under dog for sure, but he is one of the two biggest movie monsters of all time, the other being Godzilla .. That alone is bigger than anything in KOTM.. it’s like the Rock vs Austin or Hogan vs Warrior! The title sells it! So yeah it should be interesting, and for sure will be even more insane than what we are about to witness this week, and I’m still holding out hope that neither of them dies nor loses. A team up is what I’m rooting for in 2020.

I get the desire to see the two on the big screen together. But in terms of their going head to head I just think there needs to be some serious plot machinations to make that a fight where Kong has a chance.

That said, I am looking forward to seeing the latest take on this.

You are right, and I’m sure there will be and agreed I’m looking forward to it as well

Didn't they mention that Kong is still growing? Plus Kong has opposable thumbs. He's gonna duel wield two battleships.

Someone over at Tohokingdom, who spoiled the movie/confirmed spoilers from months ago also said he saw concept art from another toho "monster" for GvK. I am on mobile, so I can't click a spoiler tag, but it isn't Destroyah. He's been right about everything, so he's legit. If you dig through the forums over there, good chance you'll find out who the villain for GvK is.
