Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

Sure, but why would you build a robot that looks like a giant lizard?

It's actually much simpler than we think, actually. Monarch builds it as a contingency method just in case Godzilla goes rogue (or humans do something that make him turn against us) and command the other Titans to destroy stuff, so they build a mechanical behemoth that resembles him so in case the worse scenario unfolds, they could have the other Titans believe he's still Godzilla, using Emma's device as basis to control them as well as being a weapon used against the G-Man.

Then, you could enter the human conspiracy plot, with this secret group of people who've lost their families and loved ones at the hands of the Titans during the events of KOTM (and maybe San Francisco), who want vengeance and come together with a plan to completely wipe them off the planet (thus preventing more loss of life, though like Emma, they are extremists about it). With this, they hear/find out about MechaGodzilla, find someway to hijack it, and change him into a harbinger of death whose sole mission is to destroy all the Titans, (but maybe not before manipulating the other Titans into taking down Godzilla and Kong first since they're the strongest, though that might be too repetitive due to KOTM sorta already utilizing that idea). Either way, the climax would be Kong and Godzilla teaming up to destroy MechaGodzilla (and hold off the Titans attacking them should, again, they use the similar plotline again).

This subplot would be gradually building in the background of the movie while Kong and Godzilla duke it out.

There, that's my "fanfic" idea on how GvK could go down if it does include MechaGodzilla. Probably won't be nothing like this, but I got inspired. :funny:

That's actually pretty good. It could work. I wonder, Toho licensed the Godzilla character to WB. Does that automatically include MechaGodzilla, or does that require additional licensing?

Toho licenses monsters individually. We know that Legendary initially got 5 monsters. They mentioned a little while ago that they got some more.

Cool. I just hope that if one of those monsters is Destroyah, they never actually call him that in the movie, lol.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering about, if the deal also extended to Legendary possibly using him in the Monsterverse. WB did use MechaGodzilla for Ready Player One, so I'm hoping that's the case.

I just hope The Asylum licensed MechaShark to WB as well. Gotta have him show up in this movie too. :o

Nah. Now Mechani-Kong on the other hand. :o

MechaStreisand or GTFO :o

Sigh. Tracking for an awful $14.5 million (-69%) this weekend, per deadline. Poor Godzilla, he deserves better.

What are they going to do about Godzilla vs. Kong now?

Once again, you can't wait five years to make a sequel like this especially with the way MCU was able to deliver its films. Think about this.

2012 - Avengers
2013 - Iron Man 3
2014 - Winter Soldier
2015 - Age of Ultron
2016 - Civil War
2017 - Ragnarok
2018 - Infinity War
2019 - Endgame

My point is there, we never waited that long to see the major characters again.

The longest they should've waited for Godzilla 2 was three years.

Simple. They're not gonna do anything. It will still be released in March next year.

Even if it doesn't hold up to expectations box office wise and the Monsterverse ends shortly after, the movie will still be there, so no concerns on that front.

You really think Warner Bros. is going to be cool wanting to spend $100 million on marketing a film they aren't going to get the ROI on?

These numbers rarely get reported but the marketing budget of a film like this is NOT cheap.

I'd say there should be some definite concerns at this point.

So... what are you suggesting, exactly? They're not gonna cancel the movie, that's for sure.

Unless you want Legendary to go all Justice League on GvK and reshoot the hell out of it, I'd suggest keeping things the way they are is best. Sure, being concerned about it not making bank is understandable, but there's hardly anything they can do at this point except pray that GvK makes good money that KOTM hasn't. They'll still have to market it to the best of their ability for that to be the case as well.

Yeah, you just take the plunge and hope you get at least a mini-breakout to make up for KotM. GvK is already in the can so it’s a sunk cost. And it’s not totally bleak on KotM’s box office. China seems to have firmed up a bit (Gavin was saying 130 isn’t dead yet there earlier today) and per corpse it could do 40-45 in Japan. Bottom line they might get close to break even after ancillaries so it isn’t an utter disaster yet. But GvK has a heluva uphill climb to rescue this franchise.

No they won't

I mean, there is a sunk cost to GvK. And god knows how complicated the rights situation is. They pretty much have to go forward. Because you never know if it isn't going to be another Wonder Woman or Aquaman.

Japan box office goes to Toho. Now, keeping them happy means they are more likely to extend the licenses.

Godzilla's drop could be about 65% this weekend, which would be really bad. It might not even break $100 million in the US.

I believe Godzilla vs. Kong might get released, but is Warner Bros. still going to want to spend $100 million to release it?

I know it isn't all bad word of mouth. This drop has more to do with the fans coming out opening weekend, and the general audience not really caring. But still... ugh.

Sure, but why would you build a robot that looks like a giant lizard? I don’t see how that would really give them an advantage. The robots in Pacific Rim weren’t shaped like the monsters. I wasn’t a fan of that movie but they did provide a logical reason for the robots to be somewhat human shaped.

Why does an adult billionaire playboy dress as a giant bat to fight a never-ending war against crime with his teenage sidekicks?

Warner Bros aren’t the only factor here. This is a co-production with Legendary, who actually put more cash in than WB did. Thomas Tull is a major driving force for these movies and I’d imagine if he has any say on the matter they’ll push on with the hope that they can get a win out of this.
