Truthfully, I don’t have nearly as much interest in seeing the film as I do in hearing its box office performance, and so far so good. Its doing fairly impressive numbers despite the fact that theaters are still open in lower capacity but I always knew once LA & New York theaters re-opened that would help with the BO intake. Not to mention, unlike most of last year, we have a vaccine & the number of vaccinations are rapidly going up.
Now comes time for it to answer the next part of the box office question: how well will this film do in repeat viewings, especially when one(in the US) has the alternative to see the movie at home for at least a month?
Because outside of the Snyder fans who wanted to see it, no one cared. We already had a Justice League movie, like it or not. And I believe enough of the casual audience was burned by BvS that they didn’t want more of the same.Interesting that WB is quickly making comments on the HBO Max numbers for this but they've been quiet as hell on Snyder's movie.
Yeah but Kong hopping off of skyscrapers like they’re trees and they don’t fall over isn’t exactly realistic, even in a movie with fighting monsters. The physics weren’t very thought out.I really wish this film would have stuck with Vogt-Robert’s! He told a coherent story and still managed to nail the creature fights. Here I was just disheartened by what they did with Kong, but still thought it was a solid Godzilla film. I don’t see how any fan of Godzilla could be disappointed. He really looked at his best here then throughout any film in the monster verse including King of the monsters.
I also get the monster moving without sense of weight, and truly that only applies to Godzilla. Kong has been nimble and fast in every movie he has been in and I felt Godzilla was sped up just to keep pace with Kong, which looked unnatural but was very necessary otherwise he would have been just a slow moving target. It’s no different than Kong needing the ax otherwise he would have been roasted . So all in all good film, but total mischaracterization of Kong. It seemed like he was going for Jackson’s Kong, but landed on George from Rampage
“The HBO Max audience has spoken very clearly and loudly: they love this film and are watching it more than once,” said Andy Forssell, Executive Vice President and General Manager, WarnerMedia Direct-to-Consumer. “Comparing audience metrics in the first four days since its release, ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ had a larger viewing audience than any other film or show on HBO Max since launch.”
Question for some of the people who were maybe paying a little more attention than me...
Godzilla’s motivation in this is that he wants to be the alpha. But when he attacks the facility at the beginning,Mechagodzilla hasn’t even been put together yet. So how would he KNOW that they are attempting to build a competitor for him? Even if he has some sort of Spidey sense that goes off whenever a gigantic beast shows up, MG hadn’t even been put together yet. So what would actually draw him there? Was it the other kaiju, like the Skull Crawlers maybe?
Also, how did he just suddenly “find” Kong when he was way down in the center of the earth? They were thousands of miles apart, and Big G just somehow locates him. That made no sense to me. But maybe I’m putting too much thought into this lol.

Yeah I didn't get this bit. The movie seemed to imply that Godzilla can only sense it because of the Ghidorah head, but that doesn't really explain him finding all the different pieces in various places.
As for the other thing. I don't think Godzilla was specifically shooting down to find Kong, it's just awfully convenient that where he shot down he did haha. Pretty sure he's just shooting towards whatever the hell triggered this massive power boost.
The storm engulfed the island, we even see it in this film at the beginning.
Sexual assault allegations against Vogt-Roberts aside, I think Wingard killed it in terms of direction. I think he made a flat script come to life and he is the reason this has been a legit success so far.I really wish this film would have stuck with Vogt-Robert’s!
