Goosebumps

Wait..aren't you like the typo king around here, Airwings? ;)

Haunted Mask was always my favorite. It was so disturbing, and I have a morbid obsession with masks so it was even more enjoyable.

Haunted Mask. I still have the book in my dusty attic lol

I've only ever seen the show's episode and I thought it was amazing. Really psychological actually. How wearing masks can instantaneously change your personality as you play out the fantasy...sometimes, a bit too dangerously :oldrazz:

The scariest bad guy for me has always been The High Lord Executioner from A Night in Terror Tower :wow:

Regarding the movie. I'm trying to think of an episode where someone like Jack Black could fit. He's a hammy actor....

So the only place I can really put him is with the Horror monsters in One Day at Horrorland :D

I was actually confused too about Naria. Narnia, the first one was AMAZING - I rank it right alongside LOTR and like it leagues better than Potter. The second and third one were okay, but granted not as great. Granted, that's your opinion. I just was confused on if I was reading it right since most people and the critics liked it.

I like that one, too. Stay out of the Basement was one of my favourites as well.

The original cover art to the books were great. Very evocative.

Attack of the Jack-o-lanterns was always one of mine.

Dylan Minnette To Star Opposite Jack Black In Sony’s ‘Goosebumps’
By MIKE FLEMING JR

EXCLUSIVE: Dylan Minnette has been cast as the co-lead in Sony Pictures’ Goosebumps, the adaptation of the iconic Scholastic YA scary book series written by RL Stine. Sony nabbed the rights to the books and tapped Black’s Gulliver’s Travels helmer Rob Letterman to direct last March. The pic is loosely based on the series and is scripted by Darren Lemke and Mike White. Minnette will play Zach Cooper, who moves with his family move from NY to to the idyllic town of Greendale, MD, where his secretive new neighbor turns out to be author R.L. Stine (Black). When all the many many demons in Stein’s mind are set free by Slappy, a demonic ventriloquist’s dummy, it’s up to Zach and Stein’s niece Hannah (Odeya Rush) to put the evil genies back in the bottle. Deborah Forte and Neal H. Moritz are producing.

Minnette, repped by CESD and appropriately named in this case Monster Talent, just wrapped a big role in Disney’s Alexander And The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day opposite Steve Carell and appeared in Jason Reitman’s Labor Day and Prisoners. On the TV side his credits include NBC’s Awake and playing Jack Shepard’s son on Lost.
Wait, Black is playing Stine himself?

It sounds like a fun movie.

And the fact that Slappy is in it :D

I don't know if I'm a fan of the "imagination brought to life" idea or released from their prison or whatever it is they are doing.

I'd rather they just create a "Goosebumps universe" and focus on one story or perhaps interweave 2 or 3 stories at a time... You could include links and cameos like some kids at school in one film could next be seen in a Horrorland film or someone mentions a story about a haunted mask in passing.. Slappy could being seen in a shop window setting him up for the sequel etc..

R.L. Stine is tall, balding and lanky. Jack Black ain't any of those things... and unless he 'transforms' into Stine, it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

The concept -- fan favorite Slappy unleashing the various horrors from the books -- is pretty cool as opposed to a Creepshow-lite anthology film.

lol he doesn't have to literally look like R.L. Stine, how does him not looking like him sound like a disaster

I have this sinking feeling Black will play Stine as a buffoonish fop. Not this wry, self-aware host during the TV series.

It would have been a wrong move to exclude him. He's pretty much the face of the franchise, along with the skeleton mascot, even though he never appeared in the books as far as I know:

I have more issues with the director making this…then again, it's Goosebumps.

It's pointless to nitpick the hell out of this movie. It's not like Goosebumps is high caliber reading material. They weren't meant to entertain anyone over the age of 12.

Although I think you don't want to make a mockery out of something that had some enduring qualities to a certain demographic either, ya know?

Sounds like they could be trying to make this in the vein as something like The Monster Squad, and that could be a good move.

That would be cool if they got the guys from The Lego Movie.

But I don't think the guy who made Jack Black's previous film Guillver's Travels is that clever.

Yeesh, didn't pay attention to who was directing before. That is a bit of a negative.
