Gotham Gotham Season 1, Episode 14 "The Fearsome Dr. Crane" General Discussion

Maybe Bruce will hire Ralph Dibny to take over the case?

Why do I suspect that the merc/pirate/whatever who showed up at the very end is a friend of Fish's, not an enemy? I guess I'll see next week.

Hey, it worked for Hamlet.

That last shot of the episode was probably the most comic book-ish thing I have ever seen on a tv show.

I'm really digging what they're doing with Nigma. It's quirky, yet subtle in its own way, and I like the slow-burn we're seeing of Nigma get closer and closer to going off the deep end. You can almost see the gears turning in his head sometimes, and it's clear he think he's smarter than every he knows.

And he's probably not wrong, except for maybe a choice few. Though I do like the inevitable meeting him and Penguin are gonna have.

Only Batman will be smarter.

Great episode. We get our first real indication of how far Nygma will go to keep solving (and telling) riddles. I'm also really interested in Todd Crane and what he is doing... is he trying to prevent fear or harness it?

The Penguin arc for this episode was saved by tremendous acting. I found it a bit convenient that Maroni wouldn't take Penguin's cell phone from him before throwing him in the compactor. And then that Maroni wouldn't keep his eye on the car when the compactor stopped... Penguin seems to survive too much on the basis of sheer luck. Its because he has plot armor (we all know Penguin won't die) so it makes his story a little less interesting. That said, it was still fun to watch.

It feels like they don't know what to do with the Selina character at this point. She just kinda pops in and out of the story just so we'll remember she's there. Bruce's story seems to be building up to something, but its weird how they just apparently dropped Gordon's involvement in the Wayne murder arc... wasn't that originally the whole premise of the show? It seems that as the show is finding its footing it is abandoning some of its previous trajectories. Not necessarily a bad thing overall, but detrimental to some of the characters nonetheless.

Barbara seems all but gone from the show at this point. I wonder if they'll just write her off. No one seems to like the character, to be honest.

Also... is Bullock really afraid of dying in an alley, or was he trying to bait and trap the killer?

I think it was a little of both. He probably just said whatever popped into his head but it may have had some truth.

I love how sick The Riddler is! He's really on the verge of becoming a monster. You have to be really messed up to get a kick out of running your hands inside of dead bodies and cutting up body parts then sticking them in people's lockers. I hope to see his attempt at making his first death trap by the end of this season.

I've gone from thinking that Kris Kringle will be the Riddler's first victim to thinking that she'll be his henchwench.

I have to see what they're going to do with Jonathan but right now it feels like he could've been a grad student doing the same things Todd's doing.

I loved Penguin's expressions after Maroni's mixed metaphor and his insistence they grab some "chow".

Eddie's attempts to interact with anyone are absolutely golden.

Next week is going to be incredible!

Another solid episode, can't wait to see whats gonna happen next week. I wonder if Bruce will fall into a certain cave.

Great episode! The last ten seconds was weird and over the top.

He was trying to impress the redhead, but there is probably an element of truth to what he was saying.

I hope Bruce's situation with Selina isn't what makes him all cold.

Can we just have Barbara move away for good? Even Edward ships Jim with Leslie.

Penguin finding another way out of his predicament gave me a laugh.

That ending with Fish made me laugh even more.

I think the fact that Jim kissed Leslie in front of all those cops is going to put her life in danger.

Penguin is not very smart lately ( he should have played the "secret game" at his advantage and not antagonize Maronni ).
My guess : the guy at the end is Fish's brother.
Good episode overall ( the Bullock stuff, it was his episode ).

I find it quite sad knowing what Nygma eventually becomes.

He's such a likable dude. Granted weird as **** but still.

I thought Penguin did the best he could in a bad situation. He thought he had Maroni dead to rights. Just too bad Maroni had anticipated that. Getting outsmarted by Maroni in one instance doesn't reflect that poorly on Penguin.

Yup. Penguin thinks he's got the whole organized crime game figured out but he's still young and gots much to learn...

He's learning by trial and error right now, which is how he becomes the player he does as an older man. He's had way too many close calls, so I assume that's how he gets so genre savvy.

Just got caught up on this episode, have to admit the show keeps getting better!

May just be me but I thought Mr. Crane sounded a lot like the original Scarecrow from BTAS (before the character was recast to Jeffrey Combs), he had a similar off-British high-society type of voice.

And man is Morena Baccarin hot, she's almost unreal. :hrt: Ben McKenzie looks at least a few years younger than her but I just found out he's actually 1 year older.

I think its actually works very well. I mean, c'mon, he's earnest and exceedingly competent, and at least some of the hate he gets in the GCPD seems to come from that. It's no wonder he's going to develope a complex to making others measure themselves against his intellect. It even provides a reason why he respects Gordon a bit when he becomes Riddler; Jim at least understands him.

I didn't know going in what the episode was going to be about. When this guy showed up I was hoping he was a certain vigilante
