Yeah maybe DC should stop making comic books as well. DC/WB can't just fold because of a few bad films . Marvel had plenty of disasterious films in the past . And the higest grossing superhero film is still a dc product . Green Lantern was a fiasco but really so was the first Captain America film.


To just stop making these films would also hurt their comic sales against marvel as well . There is always hope

Excuse me, but are you seriously comparing GL to the first Cap movie? Do you know the budget discrepency between the two movies, not to mention the ubiquitous marketing that had gone into GL (and costs $100 mil plus) compare to that shoddy of a film that most people don't even knew existed.

Doubtful though but at least I can remain hopeful in the meantime.

I remember when Hulk was a fiasco and Universal said was moving ahead with a sequel again with Eric Bana. Then: The Incredible Hulk, reboot, with Edward Norton.

I remember when Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was a fiasco and Fox said was moving ahead with a third movie. Then: announced reboot.

I remember when Superman Returns was a "soft" success and WB said was moving ahead with a sequel again with Brandon Routh and Bryan Singer as director. Then: Man of Steel, reboot, with Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder as the director.

I remember when Punisher was a fiasco and Lionsgate said was moving ahead with a sequel again with Tom Jane. Then: Punisher War Zone, reboot, with Ray Stevenson.

It's everytime the same story. Only time will prove if i'm wrong.

Honestly, all this talk about budgets doesn't really mean jack, because the studio can say the budget is whatever they want to say it is. Fox said the budget of Dragonball Evolution was $100 million and it was actually $25 million, and then they also said that the budget on Avatar was $250 million when rumor has it that it was close to $400 million. Figuring out the marketing budget is on a movie is a crapshoot because the studios never talk about that, so any figures you hear are almost always hearsay.

I think if Superman didn't have a lingering love triangle and a son, we all would have seen a sequel to Superman Returns. Green Lantern doesn't really have much baggage, so I think there is more potential for a sequel.

The downturn didn't hurt Thor or Pirates - which was an awful film. Or Cars which outperformed expectations.

These reports are not confirmed. More like rumors.

If anything WB is trying to bolster international performance of GL, which doesn't seem to be working, and to save the DVD sales.

It's not going to happen.

They said they were going to do this after Superman Returns, that never happened. The next time we will see GL is in a JL film. WB isn't going to take a risk like this again. This film didn't even get to 100 million yet after 2 weekends. Not good at all.

Look at something like Transformers 2, a film that was maybe 10 times worse than GL, yet it still had legs despite the terrible terrible reviews because it had awesome robot battles that drew the audience in. GL just didn't click with the regular movie goer. GL will struggle to get to 125 domestic.

WB might use this as a marketing ploy to lure people to the cinemas so they go see the first Lantern but this sequel aint happening.

Actually does, most of the time they release the correct amount for the budget.

This film isn't going to make a profit during it's theater run, WB would be fortunate to break even after blu-ray/dvd sales, merchandise etc.

Film industries nowadays want to see a profit during the theater run, why do you think we always get romatic comedies with a budget of 25-50 million?

It won't get that.

Being generous 130 million US and 170 million outside the US. These films usually pull in a bit more overseas.

But it could come in at less than 300 million WW.
